Nestled in between some of the central business district's most imposing buildings, Food @ 259 is a great place for the lunchtime crowds. It boasts 12 different takeaway restaurants which line the outside of the circular shaped interior, all providing completely different menus.
Given that it is a mass-takeaway spot, there are a huge number of plastic chairs and tables both inside the domed building, and in the outside courtyard area. When I visited, the sun was beaming down and so I did my best to find a spot outside, something easier said than done. I ended up perched awkwardly on a table with a stranger who was clearly hoping to have their lunch in piece. Everyone, on breaks from their office jobs, moved in suited and booted packs exchanging FTSE facts and having serious phone calls.
It was all a bit too reminiscent of a school dining hall experience.
Eating alone, something I'm very comfortable with, suddenly made me feel like the unpopular kid at school. I gulped down my lunch and made a run for it.
Although this a great place for convenience food and sunshine, I'd recommend only coming here if you've got cohorts of friends or co-workers with you! read more
