Doran roofing did a complete asphalt (I know, asphalt shingles no longer exist but you get the…read moreidea); looked pretty good, at first glance. I was working out of town and unable to supervise the work. Bad mistake. . . Apparently Jim Doran did not supervise his crew either. Estimate he provided ($26k) included water/ice shield over all of the shallow slopes of the roof (much of the house). What I got appears to be standard/premium underlayment. As a result, I now have leaks down the side of the house whenever it snows. How bad they are depends on how bad the snow and the resulting ice dams are. Called him and actually managed to get him out to house a couple of times; he provided great lip service but little else. One of his comments involved trying to "mansplain" ice dams to me (actually on more than one of his visits). So now I'm looking at an upcoming winter for the third year (which will likely include snow) with a roof that is unprepared for snow and a roofer that does not stand behind his work.

What I found was that the flashing was not done correctly resulting in water penetration into the wall and lots of rot. I contacted Jim and explained what I found. He agreed to come out and see for himself. At my home, Jim agreed that the flashing had not been done correctly, and that he would have his crew come out and do the repairs. That was in mid September. They never showed. I made several calls back to Jim to find out what he planned to do. He never responded to any of my messages. To date, 12/20/20, he has made no effort to respond. My suggestion to you is use another roofing contractor. He is not honorable, and does not stand behind his work, his warrantee, or his word. Jim I hope you read this review and respond. I think you will know who I am. I live on Hortonville Road in Mount Holly. I would like to resolve this with you peacefully.

Got that? Among the coupons in the Consumer Pak that came in the mail was one for Saratoga Roofing. It said they also did siding in addition to roofing. I figured that might give them an advantage. I called, talked to a real person, and explained what my problem was. I was informed that their estimator, Oleg, would be contacting me to schedule a visit. I received the call from Oleg not more than 30 minutes later. He was able to schedule a visit later that same day. When Oleg arrived, we reviewed the work that needed to be done. Taking advantage of his presence and knowledge, I pointed out a less urgent problem with the soffit in a different section of the house, and a concern I had with some siding at a third location. He assured me that the two soffit problems could be fixed and that I did not need to be concerned about the siding issue. We then agreed upon a price to do the soffit repairs. I was next actually surprised to see that Oleg was prepared to do the repairs right then and there. He unloaded the necessary ladders, tools, and equipment to safely scale the garage roof and fix my major problem. With that section of soffit resolved he moved to the other side of the house and realigned and secured the other soffit. I can't be more pleased with the service, promptness, and work performed by Saratoga Roofing. Oleg was very personable and a pleasure to work with.

First off - roof replacement by a responsible contractor is going to be expensive. That's a fact -…read morejust deal with it. We got prices from three contractors and they were all within a fairly narrow window. We chose Saratoga Roofing primarily based on the quality of the roof inspection. Igor appeared to know what he was talking about, and pointed out both positive and negative things about our old roof that other estimators either didn't see or didn't think was important. We had originally agreed on a date for the work, but then that called to ask if they could move the work forward a few days to avoid a possible weather situation. The crew started arriving at 6:15am and were hard at work by 7am - and they completed the project by 7pm and did a great job of cleaning up. And that was on a day that got well into the 90s. They brought in a large crew - I didn't actually count heads, but there must have been at least 12-15 people. And the way they worked together was amazing to watch - at one point I noted to my wife that it was almost like ballet as they complemented each other. Our roof is complicated - peaks and valleys, and fairly steep. So the bottom line is that we were very pleased with the work they did. I'm sure that there are contractors who might have been less expensive, but this is a job that hopefully we never have to get done again, so I would rather pay a bit more to get it done right.

I would like to state the good news: the job ROV did was good. They did our roof in July of 2019…read more Now for the other news: 1. Be sure request and receive the certificate of insurance. We never got that from them. 2. The crew would start work at around 9 - 9:30 am, take a break around 10:30, leave for lunch at noonish, come back around 1:30 and leave around 3:30 pm. I would guess they put in an average of 4 to 5 hrs a day. The job took 29 days to complete. Our roof is not a complicated one! 3. My husband commented they were the "quietest" roofer ever. Bang...wait 30 seconds, then Bang...wait 30 seconds. You get the idea. 4. The crew smoked cigarettes like choo choo trains. It must be hard to hold a cig and hold a roofing hammer, and place a shingle. They did do a good job of cleaning up their cig butts. 5. The crew size and personnel would change as well. There was one guy who showed up for a day or two and he had a disability that prevented him from climbing a ladder. What!? 6. The owner and the crew always had an excuse as to why they could not put in a full 8 hr work day. 7. Because they were so slow, they came in and worked a few Saturdays. One Saturday when we were gone, a crew member was dropped off and never picked up by his supervisor. He had to ask a neighbor for a ride home. 8. You could never reach the owner by phone. Only phone messages. That in a nutshell is my experience with Roof Over Vermont.
