Love this beach year-round! The downfall is there's only one way in and one way out so be prepared for traffic during peak season. They do allow dogs here, September through May all day and unleashed in the mornings and evenings. You are not allowed to bring any alcohol on the beach, which is the downside. I'd also love to have a bonfire on the beach which you cannot do unless permitted. They have free yoga on 6th Ave., West on Sunday mornings at 10 AM so I love to go there and then stay for a great beach day. Parking is along the street but make sure all four tires are off the road and you are facing the flow of traffic.

A popular beach with the locals and tourists alike, Folly Beach is a treat. The sun was scorching when Ive visited, so do yourself a favor and bring your umbrella (or at least a hat and sunscreen). If you're like me and brought none of these, there's an array of useful little shops and beach rental services that you can utilize. The sand is super soft and clean-- loved that. The tide was low upon my last visit so I had to walk out pretty far to get to a good water level. Those waves are nice and the eater itself was cool, salty and full of good vibes. Perfect for after a hot, sunny day of sightseeing and shopping at the market There are bars near the beach/boardwalk but there are designated drink areas (the bar) that you will have to stay in. Just don't expect to buy and drink on the sand. Smoking is not permitted on the beach. There are a number of hotels, bars and mom n pop restaurants in the vicinity. The parking situation is very specific so try to plan ahead.

It was my first time visiting Charleston and all of the locals kept recommending Folly Beach. After little convincing, I decided to spend the day out there. What a lovely beach! It was packed of course but there was a lot of room to spread out. I ended up renting a chair and umbrella and kicking my feet up to watch the waves. This beach has a bathroom so you can change in peace. Finding food is not an issue at all! There are a few restaurants right on the beach and 2 min you're on the strip where there are endless restaurants and souvenir shops.

Somewhat crowded beach. The fishing pier closes at sunset, as well as some of the gift shops. Plenty of restaurants to eat at nearby, but most everything is paid parking. 2024 #12

Love Folly Beach! My family goes here every summer to enjoy the cool vibes. Folly Beach is Charleston's laid-back beach which attracts locals, surfers, and tourists. Love it better in the early morning before the crowd gets there in the afternoon. The sand and swimming are great although there are warnings for riptides. Great place to watch sunrise! Paid parking is on street by using an app or you can find free parking along the side streets.

Really pretty beach in SC. It's longgg so you could get a nice walk in. There's also a recently renovated pier with shops and a restaurant. Parking in the residential area and it's a quick walk to the actual beach. Came during the winter and was still beautiful to see. Would love to swim here in the summer.

Really 3.5 stars, when living in Charleston SC and working at MUSC. Folks I'd meet in the area would always say go to Folly Beach, it's the natives favorite beach. Well honestly, I am from Oregon (coast) a native, and my first thought was it's so flat, and my God people are neck and neck. It was known for its, young wild and free beach parties! Haha, we have all been there, and yes they get out of hand. Some call it the family beach. All I know is water has always called me, and to walk a beach and get lost in the sounds, vision of waves, seabirds, and to pick up shells. It was my mental release. Haha I have a huge fish bowl of shells. Yes, off times less folks. Fun shops, good food! Dog friendly.

A fine yellow-grey sand beach with little in the way of rocks or shells to pick, a lot of people go here for the pier or for the family friendly nature of the sand and even slope ot the water. Parking is expensive ($20-25 close to the pier) and they still wanted to charge me on a very rainy day so I'm not particularly excited about that. Smaller lots periodically along the beach road along East Arctic Rd (ironic naming?) that were still full despite the rainy day. Also leaving the area was a nightmare in terms of traffic. Not a fan of the exit traffic, they need to put up some all way stop signs or lights. Lots of small shops and food trucks in different areas.

Beautiful beach along the South Carolina coastline, another of the Carolina barrier islands. It's stunning and a fabulous spot for sunshine. Compared to other beaches I've visited this week between Myrtle Beach and Beaufort, the sand is a little less firm and the water gets deeper sooner here compared to elsewhere. There wasn't much of a riptide today with a bunch of people walking along the beach. Of course, if you're this far down onto the coast, don't miss the walk to the Morris Island Lighthouse! Decent beach on the East coast. Went in late May, wasn't too crowded, weather was warm but still had chilly winds from the sea. Lots of paid parking but limited free two hour street parking. They have a really nice pier that stretches pretty far into the ocean. They offer plenty of covered and uncovered seating, dining and fishing on the pier.

The folly pier renovation just finished so you can enjoy strolls on the pier. However the day I went there was a county park attendant of some sort that stopped my friend and I from going because the "sun just set" so was confused over that despite seeing many others enjoying the pier. Oh well, walked on the beach instead. The parking I found years ago was ample as long as you arrived early and made sure the tires didn't touch the pavement.

February at Folly Beach: It was 85 degrees out, sunny and my kids played in the water! The beach was open. Plenty of space to run and play. Plenty of parking and it was all done through parking apps- easy! Clean beach. Water up to our ankles for a while. Beautiful rippled sand under the water. Bathroom available (think upscale porta-potties.) Cute little beachy area. I come from the Ocean state so I know how these town are. Wish it had a little more to offer. We actually left town to get dessert. Glad we took the kids to the beach in February!

I took my first trip by myself from California to South Carolina. The beach was beautiful and a long one which is great if you love walking. The restaurant that sits on the piece has some seriously good fish and chips. Also if you are new to the area check out Sullivan's island. Cite town and beautiful coast.

As the Maid of Honor, I was in charge of plans for the weekend and I wanted to start the trip with my own version of a bike tour around Folly. I called 2 days prior to our arrival because I didn't initially think we needed a formal reservation, but started to get nervous as we got closer to the trip. When I called, the guys told me it would be no problem and they would have 10 bikes ready for us at 11:00am that Friday. I wasn't sure what would happen when we arrived, so I held my breath and crossed my fingers all would work out. I was ecstatic when we arrived to see Will and Cameron already at the door waiting on us!! We were maybe 5 minutes or so after 11:00 (10 girls can be a lot to get out the door) but they both commented on us "being on time," so I felt much better. They got us setup and on our way very quickly. I even asked for some of their "expert opinions" on restaurant/bars we should stop throughout the day and they provided us with great recommendations. I think having the bikes on a Friday was perfect because we didn't run into too much traffic and it felt very safe everywhere we went. We were really sad to return the bikes at the end of the day. I thought we would only spend a few hours on them since Folly isn't that big, but we were having so much fun we stayed on them until the shop was closing. By the end of the weekend, I asked the girls what their favorite part of the trip was and the most common response was the bikes!! If I had to do it over, I would probably pay to rent bikes for the full weekend. It was the best way to get 10 girls around Folly Beach!

The machine only takes $1, $5, or $10 in cash and does not return any change. The rate is $3 an hour and you then get a ticket to place in your dash. I did actually learn from an out of towner that there is an app that can be downloaded called Passport Parking. It offers a discounted rate, but is still $2.50 an hour. I think the rate is a deterrent IMO, but I guess the city of Folly Beach has to generate revenue somehow. At high tide, there is not a lot of beach area, but after the renourishments, there is some beach at least. Do not climb across the rocks! Use the crosswalks instead and save the sea oats...the few that still exist. Also, do not litter! There are trash receptacles scattered along the beach, usually at crosswalks, but pack your stuff in and out like an adult. This location is locally named for the strong currents and the fact that the narrow land has actually been washed out. After Hurricane Hugo, a lot of effort went into re-creating the road and beach that exists today. It was completely washed through to the River with a drop off of probably 20-30 feet where the road should have been. The name was used way prior to Hugo, but that event just embodies the vulnerability of the area and the potential impact of the wonderful surf/waves that we all love. Pura Vida!

We had a mixed experience with the condo itself, and after writing the review below I realized My Ocean Rental doesn't have a place to post reviews online (nor can you see any reviews from previous occupants of specific condos you might be considering). To get around that, I will post the combined condo/company review here. Condo unit #301 at 201 W Arctic was the least well-stocked of any we have rented, but the condo property was clean and My Ocean Rental staff was very responsive and friendly. We would not choose to stay in this specific condo again (ever) but we would stay in another My Ocean Rental property. Here are the pro's and con's as we saw them. PROS: -- Beautiful beach, great access to the beach, nice pools, very close to Folly stores, coffee shop in the Tides next door. -- The outdoor condo property was very clean, great access to trash cans & recycling with lots of room -- Plentiful shopping carts near the elevators came in handy -- Sand rinse station just inside the locked gates was easy to use and very tidy -- Response time when we had a clogged tub was fast, Charlie was friendly and helpful and can fix just about anything. -- Keyed entrance to the front door allowed any member of our group to run up to the condo without getting a key. -- Porch is very large with nice table/chairs available, good view of ocean (though not a full Eastern view, mostly the Tides parking lot with the ocean to one side) -- Seating was ample with big leather couch, ottoman and large table with 8 chairs. -- Plates, glasses, mugs and silverware were ample. CONS: -- The dishwasher in Unit 301 DOES NOT clean dishes! When we arrived the center spray arm was laying in bottom of the DW. I re-connected, but to no avail. Dishes got rinsed (I guess) but the soap was mushed in the bottom of DW when cycle complete and random dishes were still slimy. -- Badly stocked kitchen. The chintzy old can opener does not work (we borrowed one from the owner's parents staying in the facility, thanks). The absolute BARE minimum of other cooking tools are provided, and these are the cheapest quality. There are no measuring cups, spoons, spatulas, pancake flipper. The only spice is salt. No filters for the coffeepot (but we left about 96, so unless the cleaners dispose there should be plenty for the next family!!) -- Sprayer for the kitchen sink completely broken, missing squeeze lever. -- Next time I'll pay more attention to photos of the kitchen in units I rent. This one needs a makeover and has cheapest of cheap counters, sink, faucet. I expected more for over $400 per night. -- Would be nice to provide more than 1 roll of TP per bathroom for clients staying 2+ nights. Would also be nice to provide hand soap, dish soap and at least 2 kitchen trash bags per day of rental. This was not expensive, but definitely registered as an annoyance given the price. -- Two of the bathtubs were completely clogged when we checked in. Left standing in 15" of dirty water by the end of my first shower (gross!!). The back bathroom is probably still clogged because Charlie fixed the middle one but my kids didn't tell me until later theirs had the same problem. -- I was reminded how much I dislike electric stoves, but I suppose that can't be changed. -- There is no working lighting in the middle bedroom, only a small lamp on the bedside (there is a big lamp on dresser but it doesn't work). -- Multiple bulbs were dead in the kitchen, dining area. I like to read honest reviews, so I hope I have provided one. Again, we WOULD rent from My Ocean Rental again, but I will avoid Condo #301 unless the kitchen, plumbing and lighting get some serious attention.
