Specialties
Our CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) program offers weekly shares of farm-fresh organic produce. The on-farm pick up option is very popular for families with children and anyone who enjoys a weekly escape to the farm to get away from the hustle and bustle.
We raise 100's of varieties of vegetable, specializing in the most delicious and widely-loved heirloom varieties.
We grow 12 varieties of heirloom dry beans (including Marrowfat, Jacob's Cattle, Vermont Cranberry, Black Turtle, Tiger's Eye and more!)
We offer organic grains and flour (including wheat and barley.)
History
Established in 2008.
In the Summer of 2008, we (Emmett and Lynda) moved back to the family property to continue its long legacy of agricultural production. We started by planting a 1/2 acre in diverse vegetables and selling at two local farmers' markets. The following Spring, we began our CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) program, which is now the heart and soul of the farm. We continue to improve and develop the Foggy River CSA every year. The farm now includes approximately 14 acres of certified organic produce, grains, dry beans and laying hens. In addition to our CSA program, we also sell at three farmers' markets (Santa Rosa Original; Healdsburg; Sebastopol) and supply several local restaurants and grocery stores.
The property has been in the family since 1954, and has grown many agricultural products over the years--including hops, prunes, pears, alfalfa, string beans, grapes, sheep, cattle, and now diversified vegetables and grains.
Meet the Business Owner: Emmett and Lynda H.
We (Lynda and Emmett) are the farmers behind the Foggy River Farm market stand...and the CSA stand...and the milk stand...and, well--you get the idea.
Emmett grew up on the same property where we now live and raise our vegetables and livestock. His grandparents moved to the property in the 1950s, and his father (Bob) grew up picking prunes and pears.
Lynda grew up in San Diego, then moved northward for college. Lynda studied creative writing, and we both studied Earth Systems (aka interdisciplinary environmental sciences.)
In 2010, we celebrated our wedding on the farm! In 2011, Sasquatch Books published Lynda's book about Foggy River's first year of farming adventures. In 2012 and 2015, we welcomed little farmers Gillian and Addy into the world. They have become expert bean sorters and puddle splashers.
