For a couple years, I've wanted to add curb appeal to my home, and also to level my back yard - there was once a tree in the back, and then there was a rather pronounced hole. I wanted some color in the front, as well as removal of some hideous shrubs. I know nothing about such things, but fortunately, I found Ted Nichols with Focal Point Landscaping. I told him, "I want some color in the flower bed, perennials, and low-maintenance." I also wanted a tree in the middle of my front yard. Words fail me when I attempt to express how happy I am with Ted's vision; he knew exactly what I was trying to say, and greatly exceeded my hopes. Ted leveled my back yard, and it is an entirely different ambience. I could not be more pleased with the work Ted and his crew did. Also, his fees were more than reasonable. I contacted Ted on May 4, 2020. He sent an email thanking me for the inquiry. Here is his email. Hello, thank you for the inquiry. I'd be happy to provide you with an estimate providing you're not in a hurry. We are currently booked solid for 8 weeks and we have a $3,000 minimum on our projects. Your project definitely sounds like it meets the minimum but are you willing to wait that long on your project? If so let me know and we can see about scheduling an estimate. Thanks, Ted Ted did come out and got our idea's of what we were wanting. We have a new blank slate back yard with just grass. After he measured he said he will get us a quote by next Thursday May 14, 2020. That date came and no quote. I called Ted and he apologize and said he will get me a quote by Thursday May 21, 2020. Now 49 days later I have not heard one word from Ted. In his email he said he was 8 weeks out. Did I misunderstand and he meant he could not get me a quote until 8 weeks later. That will be July 2, 2020. Or did he mean another year because in his defense Ted never said what year. In closing I guess he did not want my business. One word of advice Ted, if you don't want to do business with someone and that is you prerogative, call, email or do some kind of communication, don't just leave someone hanging. I'm a Vietnam veteran and I'm use to having businesses tell me they don't want my kind. That was over 50 years ago, do business people still hate us? Since I could never get a job, I step out on my own and was very successful in multi businesses. I'm retired and I wonder are there any business out there that care about a customer? read more

Focal Point Landscaping is absolutely amazing! When I was initially getting bids, Ted made sure to thoroughly explain to me exactly what had to be done (with images so that I could understand it better) before I made my decision. When I went back to the other contractors to ask about their plans for the structure, they had zero idea what they were doing. It 100% solidified my decision to go with Focal Point. Ted knows his stuff and it also showed in the quality of work. I had a rotting/termite infested wooden deck that was sitting on top of a huge 5 ft. slope in the back yard behind my pool. I decided I wanted to fill in that space with dirt and sod and get rid of the deck. In order to do so, the entire retaining wall in the alleyway had to come out and a new (sturdier) one put in. The old wall was a poorly built cinderblock/concrete mask with a deep concrete foundation. This crew did the tedious task of jackhammering up the old concrete (and another concrete barrier that used to contain a lean-to on the side of my house). They did full demolition of the deck & fence. They used structural engineering plans to setup the "Geo-grid" rock/soil for the wall (as per requirement by the city). Installed a French drain beneath to tie into my pool deck drain. Installed 2 new zones to my sprinkler system. And installed the BEAUTIFUL paver wall. I watched them use a leveler with every block to ensure it was done perfectly - attention to detail was top notch. This was a very large job, and I could not be more pleased with the outcome. Ted communicated throughout the entire process and kept me informed and answered all questions. The site was cleaned up daily. They were on time every single day. I couldn't have asked for a smoother process. Completely stress free. And, they finished the job a day earlier than anticipated! I highly recommend this crew for any job. I love this gardening place. I never new I was into giant Venus fly traps, but when I lost my left femur, I knew I loved this place.

Wow, almost a year later and the owner replies. I guess he may have me mixed up with another customer because I was never happy. I questioned the front border early on and he told me it would make the very end too tall if he did what I asked. Well it was several months later that I went down to the one I showed him that I wanted and realized he could have done it that way. I think he just took the easy way out since that would have been another layer of mortar. Also, the part about him replacing the plants the rabbits ate is a bunch of crock! I bought them and can give you the name and phone # of the man who did the work if you want to verify who really planted them. And the offer still stands or anyone wanting to come look at my front border compared to what I showed him down the street. Wish i could give a lower rating after reading his reply. NEVER WAS AND NEVER WILL BE A SATISFIED CUSTOMER WITH THIS JOB. read more
