I love this winery! This time we tried their sparkling wine. They're all delicious! I am so glad they remained open during the pandemic. Their wine prices are reasonable, so you can definitely afford their wine.

Norm Yost is the Super Dave Osborne of Wine. He is a very down to earth individual who loves to make Pinot Noir and now "bubbles". The tasting room is only open by appointment, so if you plan to visit the wine ghetto in Lompoc call him and set up a tasting. Over the last couple of years we have collected a few bottles starting from the 04 Santa Rita Hills (Clone 2A) Rio Vista to the 06 Santa Maria Dierberg Vineyard. We finally got a chance to visit his tasting room during the VDay weekend when he was open to the public. Norm was pouring 3 different varietals and his newest creation a sparkling wine made from Pinot Noir grapes. He also made the same sparkling wine for Clos Pepe. I, personally love medium to full body wines with some kick & well structured. His wine show off characters of spice with lots of raspberry, cola, blueberry, and strawberry all mingling together in harmony. I know Norm keeps his tasting sessions low key and allows just a few people at a time. He turned away a limo driver when he walked in to see if his passengers could come in and taste (bonus points). Norm, thank you for allowing us to come in and finally meet you in person and giving us a taste of your awesome wines.

Great tasting room and family type culture. The owner/winenaker was pouring as he normally does. They have some great pinot noirs our of their Santa Rita Hills vineyards. Cooler climate locations make for more of an old world style pinot. More mineral and earthy but the fruit does come through. Very well balanced with oak and spice. Picked up the Rita's reserve name after the winemakers mom. But pricey but well worth it! Will be back!

Great little tasting room. Lots of lovely art to look at. Friendly service. Good Pinot Noir's and Sparkling Wines. Prices ranged from $40-60 per bottle. A bit surprised the $15 tasting fee is only waived after 3 bottles.

It's the ultimate in a fully functional "backyard retreat" We brought our dog June, in an effort to give her June-cation deux. Recently her big brother Jackson had passed and she was left quite distraught. We figured a weekend out with numerous pets and lovers from fellow wine lovers would brighten her day. And boy did it. Montemar was a last minute addition to our schedule. We hadn't even planned on staying the night but did last minute when we found a great hotel deal that included dogs. I had been curious about the Lompoc wine scene for ages and this was the perfect opportunity. Lucky for us it was a quiet Sunday afternoon and June was given free reign of the backyard. We tasted a few flights and then opted to share a bottle of the Grenache blanc Pet Nat - perfect for a balmy Late fall afternoon. We loved the chill vibe here and would recommend to anyone with low energy pets. We can't wait to return and try out more wines and literally just chill and hang. It's such a peaceful environment for that!

However the service we received was unlike any of the other wineries we stopped at in the area. When we arrived at 3:30pm we were greeted at the door by a young woman who immediately told us that they would be closing at 5pm so we may not have much time for a tasting. An hour and a half isn't enough time for a tasting? After sitting in the large open tasting room, we engaged in conversation with her about the wines and the winery. When asked how she got into the business and started working at Hilt, she said she just wanted something that she didn't hate, and had applied for the job a couple months ago. When we asked about the white wine they had, she mentioned its tannins. Tannins in white wine? Given that we were only interested in trying the whites and the majority on the tasting menu were reds, we decided to try a glass of the white on offer instead of doing the tasting. The pour was about 2 ounces. It's too bad that the service was so impersonal and uneducated because the winery and the wines seemed so impressive. We would have loved to learn more but decided to cut our losses and leave.

The furniture and artwork were both stunning as well, definitely recommend sitting by the fireplace. Our host was lovely, knowledgeable, and super accommodating of the timing before our next reservation. She explained the wines perfectly and definitely got us thinking about the different tasting notes. We left with a few bottles of the 2005 Sangiovese, it was an off-menu recommendation from our host and this wine had an amazing aroma, didn't even need to take a sip to know how special it was (but obviously did)! All said, an amazing experience, beautiful wines, knowledgeable staff - definitely recommend!

Brian and Kimberly made us feel like royalty with six full tastings and a beautiful charcuterie tray. Everything paired well beautifully - the Chardonnay and Pinot Grigos were excellent. We bought six full bottles to take on our getaway to Cambria. The location in Lompoc is amazing with a huge warehouse, full kitchen, and comfortable tasting room. It is in an industrial park, but it is in a non-crowded area with lots of parking which is a huge plus. Yes, it is an hour out of the way from the 101, but it is a beautiful drive both ways and so worth the stop! Full disclosure - Brian and I attended junior and senior high together. But, honestly, he makes fabulous wine and has a state-of-the-art facility. Brian and Kimberly provide top-notch customer service and hospitality. I would recommend all of my friends stop for a fantastic wine-tasting experience. They have spoiled us for any other wine tasting!

Then, I mean, oh its flavors, they're just the most haunting and brilliant and thrilling and subtle and... ancient on the planet." --Miles, "Sideways" First, I must admit I don't really like Sideways. Miles is a boring drip and he doesn't really know as much as he thinks he does about wine. But I do love Pinot, and Loring makes two of my favorites from the Clos Pepe vineyard and from Garys'. Luckily, on a recent visit to their new location in Buellton, they had both the 2016 versions of these wines in half bottles, full bottle for Clos Pepe. Ive been an acquaintance of Brian's for 20+ years as he first sold his wines to a wine group I was part of back in the late 90's, early 2000's. Now I see him occasionally at a charity event I've gone to previously. I admire how he pursued his dream and became a Santa Barbara rock star. They do more than just Pinot, and this visit is also more than just about wine with lovely locally baked shortbread cookies to pair. You wouldn't think it, but it's a great choice. The new location is next to Industrial Eats restaurant and makes for a great combo visit of wine and food and cookies. I prefer the two pinots above, you might find other pinots, or the blends or the whites more to your liking. All at fabulous price points too. Highly recommended :-)

When they opened their tasting room earlier this year, I was eager to make a trip down. When reviewing a wine tasting room, it's sometimes hard to separate the review of the tasting room experience from a review of the wines. In this case, I'm happy to report that Liquid Farm does an amazing job on both! Yes, it's an odd place for a tasting room, but Lompoc isn't quite the wine tourist destination like Napa or Sonoma. If you're reading this post and thinking of visiting, it's likely that, like me, you're already a fan of the beautifully elegant, terroir-driven chards and pinots. A visit to the tasting room affords a rare opportunity to taste the different wines being made side-by-side. Tasting the "White Hill" chard next to the "Golden Slope" deepened my understanding and appreciation of the two immensely. Visiting the tasting room also gave me instant access to magnums I had never had a chance to purchase before! Brian was a terrific host to my girlfriend and I. He was super knowledgeable about the wines, history, and philosophy of LF. He was also knowledgeable about wines in general, and was able to relate all things Liquid Farm to the larger context of California and Burgundy. We spoke the same language, and I was grateful for the opportunity to learn so much more about the wines I'd loved for so long. Brian gave us a little tour of the production winery, and invited us to join the wine club. We couldn't resist! We joined the wine club, and bought a mixed case and a couple of magnums. As I understand, they're open to the public on Saturdays, and by appointment the rest of the week. Either way, it's prudent to call ahead. Just make room in your cellar first!
