I totally lucked up and was able to get a day of flight. I was on the evening flight and the sun working its way down into sky made for a beautiful flight. My pilot was Anna, who was awesome! They watched the wind closely to make sure it was safe and I would get a good ride. I felt safe throughout the entire process which eased my nerves. Of course I added on the pictures and Anna even had a little adaptor so I could open the files from the memory card onto my iPhone so that I could have a few before I got home. I'm on a road trip and it would be a good while before I could see what they pictures were like. This was a nice added little touch. I'd definitely recommend Fly Sun Valley to my friends and would fly again if I come back to Sun Valley. read more

Chuck and his team are fantastic! Chuck answered all of our newbie questions quickly and professionally prior to our decision to book, then helped us decide on a time slot and package that was best for our needs. We felt like valued clients throughout our entire interaction. The video package, an add-on, is a must-have. If you can get Nathan as your "pilot," he is gentle and self-deprecating (although he is a very accomplished daredevil) and will not make you feel like an amateur in the least. He let us "fly" a bit on our own, which was amazing. A couple of tips: Dress warmly in clothing that is wind resistant. Tip your "pilot" a little extra if you enjoy the experience, as this is seasonal work. Oh, and get the video package! read more

Launching is easy as we stride a few steps and our glider smoothly lifts into the air -- there is no "jumping off" any mountain cliff. We encourage you to bring a camera to capture all the aerial fun. Our pilots also have "GoPro" cameras and are ready to record this wonderful experience and the fantastic mountain scenery of Idaho. People of all ages are welcome... Individuals aged 3 to 93 have flown with us.

History

Established in 1999.

Fly Sun Valley has a perfect safety record for 23 years. All instructors are certified with the United States Hang Gliding and Paragliding Association and/or The Aero Sports Connection and American Ultralight Association. All have many years of experience. In fact, some are former test pilots, top ranked national & international competition pilots, hold various flying records, etc. We are fortunate to have some of the best professionals in the industry as part of our team.

Meet the Business Owner: Chuck S.

Fly Sun Valley is owned and operated by Chuck Smith. He began flying paragliders in 1987 in Switzerland, initially utilizing "parapentes" as a descent tool for mountaineering activities in the Alps and later for climbs in the Andes and Himalayas. He was involved in the formation of the American Paragliding Association, (APA) the original governing body of paragliding prior to its merger with the United States Hang Gliding and Paragliding Association (USHPA). Chuck is a former factory test pilot for UP International and has worked in every aspect of the sport of paragliding. Additionally, he is a former US National Champion and national team member, holds numerous flying awards, is a USHPA Advanced Instructor, USHPA Tandem Administrator and has personally flown over 5000 safe tandem flights.
