Ground instruction is great, designed to not let you fail. You will be prepared for orals. Flight instruction is ok. Airplane to student ratio is poor. If you weigh more than 170ish plan to be flying a DA-40/20 depending on your location. They have roughly 8-10 DA-40s total and 0-4 up at a time. Mx is slow and prioritizes cruisers. Cruiser USA is also owned by Jason Clarke, so his FLT Mx guys are routinely building sport cruisers for customers of cruiser USA. Upper MGMT is dismissive of students concerns/requests. The school relies on a student base who cannot afford flight training otherwise. They partner with funding companies that lock you into high interest loans, and in turn, get you to sign a training agreement that ensures you cannot leave if you are dissatisfied with their product down the line. They will try to convince you that their program is faster, but it's not. The timeline published on the website for their career track program is inaccurate by 6-8 months. They do not have anyone finishing private pilot in under 55 hours. Expect to take 65-85 hours for private. If you fly the DA-40, expect to get between 9-15 hours a month. You do the math. Instrument will take 4-6 months and commercial will take 2 months after that. CFI will take 4-6 months as well. Just some notes and observations from somewhere who's been there. I could say more, and happy to if people have questions. My final thought- If you can afford to pay cash, take your money elsewhere and never let anyone dictate your training timeline to you. Ultimately your career is yours and nobody will put your best interests forward except for you. read more

This was my first non-commercial flight experience, and it was definitely memorable. After reading a book that mentioned flying, I thought it would be a great gift idea for my boyfriend and came across this company after doing some research. Bountiful Flight sold me when they mentioned an experience where you would be able to take over the controls and do the flying, and that's exactly what my boyfriend was able to do. He was a little nervous, but our pilot gave clear and easy instructions so it went pretty smoothly. We had a great time exploring Bountiful city, the Lagoon Park area and also carved the canyons nearby. We told our instructor Britton that we were thrill seekers so he demonstrated a positive and negative G force drop - so much fun! Overall, I had a great time and would recommend this to anyone who's interested in flying or just wanting to try something new. The reason I'm rating this place with 4 stars is because there was a pretty big delay in getting my reservation placed. It took about a week to get a call back and then another week to reschedule when I realized I had issues with the first date. And with my luck, we ended up having to reschedule once more due to one of the planes needing maintenance. read more

I absolutely love this school. I was at Cornerstone and liked it very much too. But, FLT Acadamy has been an even more enjoyable experience for me. The Sport Cruiser as an amazing airplane to learn how to fly in. And the CFI's are so helpful (even those not assigned to me). The program is set-up to take you all the way to ATP and we learn how to think like an Airline Pilot from the first day. While I did not personally take advantage of the in-house finance program it seems very accessible. read more

Bought a Groupon for a 30 minute flight for two in their full motion flight simulator. Arrived about 15 minutes early per their request, checked in and waited for our flight instructor Scott to arrive. Scott was right on time and very personable. He introduced himself and led us to the flight simulator which is located in a hanger on the property. Scott setup the simulator and I climbed aboard. Once everything was ready Scott asked me where in the world I'd like to fly which was really cool. He got me on the ground where I wanted to fly and proceeded to get me started. Scott was very patient and recognized what I needed to get the flight going. Having had some previous simulator experience he stepped in only when necessary which gave me an excellent experience. I was able to fly for a complete hour as my wife wasn't interested...I had an excellent experience and would recommend Bountiful Flight to anyone seeking flight training or wanting to try out the flight simulator. Scott would be an excellent instructor no matter what your needs. I hope to return in the future for additional sessions. read more

Seriously amazing experience. I did the acrobatic flight, had Jason as my pilot. Not only was Jason professional and super knowledgeable (as I'd expect) he is certainly a people person, friendly and entertaining, made the whole experience a blast. Thorough with all the safety items such as exiting the plan in an emergency as well as all pre-flight checks - not only that, but explained it all to me to share some knowledge and make the whole process more involved. The flight itself was awesome, if you want to experience some aerobatics I'd highly suggest doing this! They do offer a ton of other stuff, from scenic flights and flight school to gain private license, their fleet of planes looked (to me at least) very well maintained and in great shape, both inside and out. I purchased a groupon for a couples flight for my husbands birthday. It was one of the best experiences!!! Our instructor (Kevin) educated us about the plane and we went through an "inspection" prior to flying. We were able to ask any question we wanted and he had all the answers. My husband had an amazing time actually flying. He was able to take control on the ground and in the air. Kevin was very interactive during the flight taking pictures for us and really easing my husband's nerves. This is an experience we will absolutely do again when the season changes. I read a couple reviews about the time however we didn't experience that. When I booked I was told the in air time would be around 30 minutes and the other time would be with the instructor. People have to understand this is a flight school and they want to educate as well as have fun. Return customers for sure! read more

I've been satisfied with FLT Academy since major changes have been made. The management staff heard the concerns of its students and worked very hard to implement positive changes. All the while keeping us in the loop. I like that I can call, e-mail or text Jason or any of the other members of management with any issues or concerns that I have. They will be prompt with their response and seek an immediate resolution to the issue. I'm now flying five days a week with my instructor, which is huge. Maintenance which had been an issue when I started is now a non-factor. Let's talk about my instructor. He's awesome! Very knowledgeable and always available to help me out and answer any and all questions. He pushes me, challenging me with positive encouragement to be a better pilot. Especially when I at times put too much pressure upon myself to try to be perfect and start doubting myself and my ability. Seriously all the instructors that I've interacted with at the company have been great, not just mine. I'm working toward my instrument rating currently and it has been an absolute blast. I'll be finishing up my 20 hrs in the sim this week. Also I just had my Stage 1 Check the other day and totally crushed it. All thanks again to my instructor. It was great to see the fruits of my training as I was broke out of the simulated clouds and there was the runway environment. Today I scheduled a plane and flew solo for the first time since 2001. It was honestly a bit nerve-racking at first. But I eventually, I got past my fears of not having my instructor in the right seat next to me. I was able to fall back upon my training learned here at FLT Academy. I'm excited to start the next stage of my instrument training and put the skills that I learned in the sim, in the real world environment of the airplane. Onwards, upwards. Waste of time and money. Signed up last year as bountiful flight they froze the start date for new students. Got my deposit back for not starting on time. Went back to try and sign up again this year @ FLT. They had me pay and do all the new requirements like drug testing, driving record and background check just to be told that I wasn't accepted. read more

I work for a flying school and am constantly feeling like they do everything they can to stop us from flying (mountains of paper work, unreasonable rules and policies etc). Our son is a student at Bountiful Flight and in the process of getting his private pilots license. He will then go to USU into their aviation program. The plan was for him to get his private pilots license prior to going to USU. I fee a bit obligated to tell of our experience. If you are serious about getting your license and becoming a commercial pilot I would think hard about using Bountiful Flight. I think in theory it is a great business and a great way for someone who is young and knows that they want to be a pilot to go through such a program. They can start while they are in High School like our son did. However, our experience has been very poor. We have spent well over $10,000 for classes, flights, instructors, etc. The biggest and most glaring problem is that the majority of scheduled flights get cancelled. I am not talking weather related either. They simply do not have a handle on their maintenance. Being conservative, I would say at least 7 out of every 10 scheduled flights get cancelled. Many of them after our son has already left to go to the flight. I have researched and talked to other people who have gone through other schools/programs and this has not been the case with them. I am all for having safe air crafts for students to use. However, there is poor communication. Many of these cancellations could be avoided. Also, the FAA is very backed up on doing check rides. Both instructors told our son that he has been added to the list and awaiting a date. After a month and a half we found out that was never the case and he is back to square one. He was never booked or on the list in the first place. Now it will not be done before he goes to college and he cannot get into specific classes. Bountiful Flight appears to be more interested in taking your money and expanding and growing their business than taking care of the students who are paying significant amounts of money and who are serious about a career. I received an automated email from them asking what my experience has been. I certainly told them. Heard nothing back. Left multiple voicemails to one of the managers, heard nothing back. An email into the owner, heard nothing back. I am a small business owner myself and try very hard to fix any problems or customer complaints. especially those that are highly invested. They are happy to cash your checks but seem absent when an issue arises. I am not a spiteful person and am not vindictive. However, I am writing this so someone considering them goes in with realistic expectations. For the amount of $ we have shelled out I expect way more! The reviews listed on their website are from their own employees and instructors. Do your homework on them before you decide to use them. I would talk to students who are serious about a flight career and who have gone through the program. Had I known what I know now, I would have used someone else. read more

I started my training at bountiful flight in June of 2016. Last week I passed my flight instructor test. I was able to do in the time that I wanted. The instructors knew how to instruct according to my goal and were helpful through out each stage of training. I did reasearch on several schools before I started and bountiful flight by far had the best rates. They have an awesome variety of aircraft to fly, great flexibility with scheduling, and really knowledgeable instructors. They really care about each student. I won't get into the ridiculous runaround my son got while enrolled here, the cancelled flights, or the instructors failures with regards to my him obtaining his private pilots license, nor will i go into inaccuracies with the log book and them "not counting" certain flights due to the time being short, only to find out now that he is at USU, the flights in question ABSOLUTELY should have counted and did count towards his PP (which he does have now thanks to USU). My biggest issue deals with the fraud with the person collecting $$$. I was contacted by the woods cross police and gave them a statement. The biller was apparently sending Venmo requests and pocketing the money and according to the investigator, this is a "significant" amount of money. While i do not blame the flight school for one persons dishonesty, it does call into question the accuracy of the bills and i am wondering exactly what i paid for with my close to $12k investment which as mentioned above STILL did not get my son his private pilots license at this school. read more

I can't say enough good about this flight shop! I was looking for a great IFR instructor, and after trying a couple in Ogden, I found Joe Hoggan at bountiful flight. He was very friendly, and his skills and knowledge are second to none. I highly recommend this flight shop for even the beginner pilots. Joe is currently working with a few more of my fiends and they also love flying with him. I feel it is my duty to tell my experience. if I could give negative stars I would. I started in December with their Skywest program. I was told it would be a full time training schedule where we needed to devote at least 5 days a week for flying. I was promised the world but delivered nothing but excuses. Many people are moving from out of state to join this program only to be wasting their time because they aren't able to fly for various reasons. Here are a list of negatives for this company: *Never answer their phone *Dont respond to emails *Growing to fast for the organization. They have issues in Bountiful and Ogden but yet they are still actively trying to set up Provo. I mean come on fix your issues before moving on. *they hire student pilots to manage the office, people who have had no experience with their job. *planes were a constant issue ( yes I understand they require a lot but their maintenance staff lacked the capability of turning the planes out properly. More times then once they would work on a plane just to have the same problem not fixed and having to go down again.) *They promised a set schedule in May, well guess what that didn't happen so it got promised in June. well when I left it still hadn't been achieved this being the end of July. *A lot of their students are very unhappy, many like myself, have moved on to better schools. * Don't be fooled by positive posts. I can promise you they email their students and ask for positive reviews in return they receive free hours in the simulator. It's a crooked way to make things seems better than they really are. This is fact does happen. *I have been finished with their program for 4 months and I still receive emails from them. The last one stated that I haven't flown for a while and wanted to know if I was still wanting to be part of the program. No crap I quit 4 months ago. It seems as if they have received a bad reputation that hey have now changed their name from bountiful flight to Flt Academy. Please for the sake of your happiness and your hard earned money find another program through a better school. This company is all about show. They blame the lack of examiners. Though I will admit the examiners have been busy, this is not the whole story. Flt academy conveniently left out the part how often students from this program cancel their checkride due to feeling inadequate or planes that weren't legal to fly, or students not even having the proper paperwork and training logged before going into the oral examination. Honestly the list can go on, this school is pathetic. Yes I'm disgruntled, i quit my job to train full-time as I was asked to do so in my interview.
