I had the most amazing week at Florida school of woodwork for the Beginners Woodworking class. The…read moreinstructor Andrew and other staff were very friendly, knowledgeable and skilled with the curriculum. We learned the history about wood and furniture, which was very informative for starting as a woodworker. By the end of the week, the entire class made full tables and a cutting board that we will have as a memory starting our journey as woodworkers.

Okay, I'll admit it. I may enjoy an art project here or there but I have zero woodworking (or power…read moretool) experience. Zero. Zilch. Nonexistent. I am also pretty klutzy in general, so the idea of making anything using sharp objects vaguely terrifies me. That being said, the Florida School of Woodwork in Tampa is outstanding. A valuable resource for fledgling newbies (like myself) and for those who are more advanced. I signed up for the cutting board course with my mother. Apart from both leaving with all our fingers and toes present and accounted for, we learned a lot and had fun too. Our instructor walked us through the entire process, and allowed us to flex our creative muscles (within the scope of the intended project). We glued, sanded, cut, and other far more technical terms I cannot pretend to recall. Even better, we left with two beautiful and functional cutting boards (complete with my own pyrography pen design) and a lot of great memories. Book in advance for an afternoon, or even a weekend workshop, their classes are outstanding. Very well organized, and safe too. It is also a delight to work alongside instructors who are not only knowledgeable but truly passionate about their craft.

The first time I went to a class, I went to the Halloween themed class. I went alone and honestly the staff made me feel so welcome. The people who attended also were super friendly. If you ever want to sip some wine or coffee or whatever and attend an event on your own AR Workshop is definitely a great place to do so. I love how the owner --who is super hands on and sweet btw--and the staff help you with all of your choices, because yes there are tons of choices from colors to stains to finishes to handles--if you don't choose a lazy Susan like me! The process is super fun and allows your creative juices to flow but also within the lines so you know the project will come out amazing. The second time I signed up, I also signed my mom up for the charcuterie class as well for the holidays--our before and after the charcuterie portions are attached! It was fun and straightforward and she had a blast! The charcuterie portion was super fun! AR always brings in a different charcuterie company to come in and teach and honestly who doesn't love that! The best part all you have to do is show up! All supplies are provided. I will be back! I'm always coming back and honestly you should stop by if you have been eying this place or want to spruce up your place with alittle diy decor!

Everything was ready for us when we showed up - the leaves, the base, and the frame were all cut out, we just had to choose our techniques and colors we wanted to use. The woman helping us was AWESOME! She showed us how to do different things to achieve interesting effects on the wood. I loved that they had plenty of examples all around the space so you could look at things and be like - I want to try that technique, or, I like that color combination. The environment was fun and relaxing. They give you an apron, and you sit on a stool at a very large worktable. They sell snacks, or you can bring your own, but we had just finished eating, so we were good. There was also an Intro to Mah Jong class going on while we worked, so it was fun listening to that. Our projects turned out awesome, and it was fun to be able to bring something home with us as soon as it was done.
