Your tour starts at the Astor Bridge Tender's house, which was built in 1926. It is one of the last existing bridge tenders homes in Florida. The the home was for families who operated the bridges swing span, to allow river traffic along the St. John's river to pass. The move of the structure to the settlement happened in the early 1980s. Including the Astor Bridge Home, there are 22 unique stops along the way. Each rich and its own way, full of history. So I could go on and on, or you could go and see for yourself! It honestly was so fun to see everything and read about everything. Since we were there for the wings of the west the day we came, my son and I plan on going back and making a full day of walking around the settlement. Appreciating it more thoroughly, taking it more slowly in. It was that great! Thank you, Barberville Pioneer settlement for all the rich history and for supporting the wonderful wings of the West!

Different vendors offered arts and crafts, different food specialties, and community services. The local classic car community brought in their beautiful cars to view. The Pioneer Settlement offers 19 buildings to help educate and demonstrate the life in the past. A fun family adventure!

It was funny having pigs under the house sleeping. I sat on the porch and listened to them snore, it was a riot. I've never heard a pig snore. The very best part was the look on my sisters face when she got to do the cow cuddle with the highland cows. It was a special surprise for her. Thank you Elaine for making our visit wonderful. We will be back.

I've been to Rooterville Animal Sanctuary twice, and both visits were totally worth the 2 hour…read moredrive from Orlando. The animals are well taken care of, the people working there are so nice and helpful and booking a highland cow cuddling session was amazing. You can even stay on site if you want that real "outdoorsy" experience - but it's perfect even for a quick day trip. Can't wait to come back again!

We sorted over 7k in food handling frozen, fully cooked, poultry and snacks. It was good to see the community and businesses remain committed to supporting this mission.
