I visited this adoption center today with the genuine intention of adopting a kitten. I was initially greeted by two respectful and helpful ladies, who directed me toward the area where the kittens were located. Since I am 19 and was informed that I needed to be 21+ to adopt, I planned to have my mother on FaceTime while I looked at the kittens and considered my options. Unfortunately, the experience changed once we were introduced to another staff member. Her attitude toward both me and my sister came across as extremely passive-aggressive and unwelcoming. We clearly explained that we were interested in adopting a single kitten, but she repeatedly insisted that the kittens could not be adopted individually because they had formed bonds with other cats. While I understand that some kittens may benefit from being adopted in pairs, I had done research beforehand and felt that the situation was presented to us as an absolute rule rather than being explained on a case-by-case basis. We were then directed toward a room with older cats that were described as being newer to the center. There was also confusion regarding one of the cats' names, which further contributed to the experience feeling unprofessional and disorganized. When we asked to see the kittens we had originally come to meet, we felt as though there was very little effort made to accommodate that request. Instead, the staff member seemed frustrated about having to go "back and forth" and ultimately escorted us out of the building. I completely understand that adoption centers have policies and that staff members have to make decisions based on the animals' well-being. However, there is a significant difference between enforcing a policy and making potential adopters feel unwelcome or dismissed. We came in with good intentions and a genuine interest in providing a kitten with a loving home, so I was disappointed by the way the situation was handled. The first two ladies we interacted with were kind and respectful, but unfortunately, the interaction with the other staff member overshadowed the rest of the experience. I hope management takes this feedback into consideration, because prospective adopters should feel informed, respected, and welcomed when visiting an adoption center. read more

What a wonderful staff at this shelter! I adopted a beautiful black cat named "Bravo" who needed to be re homed. Terry was so helpful and very detailed about how to introduce him to my other cat. In less than 2 weeks they are cautiously getting along and I'm sure will be inseparable soon. Very pleased with this experience! read more

First Class No Kill Animal Shelter! I had a wonderful experience adopting a cat named Dutchess at this shelter. The place is immaculately clean, well run, and a lovely volunteer staff. All Dutchess' needs were taken care of including testing, shots (up-to-date) and grooming. Each animal seems to have a personal relationship with the staff!! This is the second cat we adopted, our first was in January 2020, a long hair Calico we named Taffy. She ruled the house! Until last month we saw this purfect little sweetheart one year old male, my daughter named Toad. He plays hide-n-seek in the morning and loves to run up and down the stairs. I was nervous about adding another cat to the family in case they don't get along and it did take some time. Now we have peace, the kitties are happy. The staff was wonderful. I recently adopted a kitten. The voluntees were a little hesitant because I have a 3 year old boxer. They were worried that the two would have issues which could ultimately lead to the kitten being returned. Their concern was for the wellbeing of an animal that was trumatized by the dog and/or the return. I really appreciated their caution due to their unwavering concern for all their adoptable animals. No animal should be returned. But I knew my dog. Within 2 hours, they were accepting of the other, not best friends but tolerant. Less than 2 weeks later they are sharing my dog's bed! The faclity was spotless. The women I had contact with were wonderful. Their care and attachment to their animals is so apparent. Due to their apprehension, I went back 2 days after the adoption to show them pictures of my two not only due to my pride of both my boxer and the kitten and their growing fondness for each other but to put the women at ease. Their obvious pleasure at seeing one of their adoptees doing so well made my day! read more

We adopted 2 beautiful 9 month old gorgeous puppies from the Humane Society of Florida/Pompano Beach. Couldn't have asked for better puppies in the world, everything we were looking for. These were extremely well cared for, loved, brothers', who came to us neutered, with ALL shots, are perfect companions for our family. Our Vet checked them out and was amazed that we were their 4th home, now their forever home... They love it here... Tons of room to roam, play hard together, (supervised, of course, and lots of harnessed walks outside), they love these of course, and healthy foods, No people food or begging from the table or bad habits allowed... Fun is getting your face and eyeballs licked from all the happiness and appreciation these two dogs show you every time they see you... Love is giving ALL you've got, and getting ALL the love back from innocent animals who love you right back The Humane Society of Florida in Pompano Beach/Powerline Road did an amazing job caring for these sibling brothers for 5+ weeks, keeping them together. We couldn't have been more lucky to have found them. Everyone at the Humane Society was truly a pleasure to work with and we can't thank them enough... Walking into this facility, it's obvious that the workers and volunteers care about what they do and the animals they care for. They give a small interview to get a sense of your lifestyle in order to match you with the best pet, and take their time while showing you all of the options and explaining the different personalities to you. We got our Lola (formally Caramel) about a month ago, and they just called us to check up on the progress of her transition into our home with her new big brother Momo. Wow what a great experience. I adopted my little kitty fur man Tito from this shelter. I love my Tito and sometimes feel bad about going to work for 5 hrs because I miss him so much already. This place is above and beyond clean and all the volunteers are exceptional. There are so many goodies in the front area to buy. We loved our experience with them! The staff is very professional, loving and make us feel welcomed. During the adoption process, they did a home inspection and we liked that. It shows that they are serious with what they do and don't give away the pups or kittens to anyone. Our pup was born at Rosie's. Her momma was surrendered pregnant. It was a litter of 9 perfect healthy beautiful puppies. Rosie and Wendy took care of them and momma until they were old enough to be adopted. They kept the "pet parents in contact" and every now and again we get together for puppy sibling play dates. Every time we get together we invite the ladies who took care of them and the puppies remember them! Every time time they see each other is all love, licked faces and wagging tails! We recently adopted 2 beautiful kittens from Florida Humane Society. It was such a great experience from the moment we walked in there. They even called us a week later to follow up to make sure everything was ok. It's easy to see that the ladies working here truly care about their animals. They are super nice and keep the place very nice and clean. Their cats are in big rooms, none of them stuck in little cages like some other shelters. We were going to adopt only one kitten but ended up with two since these two adorable brothers are very close and practically inseparable. They are very sweet kittens and already potty trained. Let me start out by saying that rescuing will always be the best option. Breeding takes away from the shelter cats and dogs opportunity to find a forever home. My girlfriend and I were talking about adopting a kitten as an early birthday gift for me, so we chose to start at Florida Humane Society. The staff there were helpful, informative, direct and knowledgeable on each cat/dog there. I mentioned that I was lookin to adopt a kitten and they allowed us to look around freely and let them know if we had any questions. I saw one I was interested in but they suggested I check out the Petsmart in Pompano Beach before settling, since they sent a litter of kittens there to be adopted the day before. Once we got to Petsmart we saw an adorable blackish brown tabby. He was playful, goofy, had the biggest paws and most distinctive coat I've ever seen on a tabby cat. I decided to rescue him and went back to the shelter to fill out the paperwork. After going through the process I was able to bring my new fur baby home. This shelter is clean, everyone is super nice and most importantly, the animals are treated with respect and are truly cared for. If I could give this shelter more than 5 stars I would. I've visited this facility recently. I had cat food to donate along with towels to cushion their beds with. I was so happy to see that this place was spotless and the cats seem to be very well cared for. We are contemplating adopting another cat and fortunately or unfortunately there are plenty to choose from. I was also very happy to see that the cats are not stuck in cages. They have rooms where they're allowed to roam free which is so very important. This is a volunteer, no kill shelter. Their fees are reasonable and include spay and neutering. They rely on donations and kind hearts. I will be donating again, $$ and food. read more

I love the Florida Humane Society. Where else could I go and adopt a dog who'd been there for over a year because nobody wanted him. That's a true no kill shelter. And all the animals are clean, healthy & happy. When I donate to FHS I expect my donation to be used to most benefit the animals. And they do that. If that means using it in the shelter great. If it means selling it in their boutique or yard sale, great too. If something I no longer want generates cash for the animals, I'm happy and you should be too. read more
