Dixon Ticonderoga Company - I really enjoy their website. Posted with review 04/30/22

Visiting the Art Supply Store was one highlight of my weekend. The company offers a number of brands, with one of the most well-known being Ticonderoga: the yellow No. 2 pencil. The important thing to know is you can order online. They have a great website you can access through this business page! A little background and information on this historic company. The company was formed by the merger of Joseph Dixon Crucible Company of New Jersey with Bryn Mawr Corporation of Pennsylvania, dating to 1795. The company was founded by Joseph Dixon and his son. The pencil's name originated from the graphite ore discovered on Lead Mountain in 1815 and processed in Ticonderoga, New York. When you were in school were you often told to use a Number 2 pencil? I feel like it's still a necessity to this very day. I always have a supply on hand. It's necessary to keep a pencil sharpener too. I don't have anything fancy. Mine is a cheap little plastic pencil sharpener. It does the job. I'm recommending you visit the website. I'm recommending this pencil when you want the best pencil. I appreciate the eraser on the end. I'm known to make a lot of mistakes!!

Whether it's true or not, I just find that I think more clearly and creatively scratching lead to paper than sitting at a keyboard being mocked by a blinking cursor or some indeterminate pronoun cartoon masquerading as a helpful AI avatar built into the program. And for as long as I can remember, Dixon Ticonderoga pencils were my sword of choice. I tried mechanical pencils and all (especially the throwaway plastic variety) just didn't cut it, undermined by fragile lead constantly breaking under the full weight of my thoughts (kidding.) Ticonderoga was it... balanced, consistent and filled with carbon that had a backbone. I still use them but something has definitely changed. Dixon sold out to a European conglomerate about ten years ago and my favorite sticks are now made in China. They look the same but the lead has been downgraded and the erasers no longer easily dispatch a mistake. Having no better alternative, I suspect I'll still maintain some semblance of loyalty because I just hate Bill Gates alter ego grinning back at me like a madman from my laptop. Nothing is sacred, even the humble pencil. Three defeated stars. Many thanks to my friend Marianne W. for the inspiration.

Picking your project in advance is required so they can have all your stuff ready. The fine details like colors and stains are decided on the spot. Funny enough, 3 out of 7 of us chose the same project! It was the holiday card display board. But even when that happens, as you can see with my picture, they all turned out very different. The class was booked for three hours and we were indeed there for 3 hours. They sell alcoholic bevvies for $5 and had a great selection. They have multiple bathroom stalls there that are very clean. They have a sink in the back with special soap that takes off any paint you might get on your hands/ nails. The staining process you gotta be careful with and wear the gloves. And the sanding process please be careful. A friend got a huge splinter which was bleeding. They helped us clean it up and put a bandaid on it so she could keep creating. Employees were super helpful and easy to flag when you needed help. But they pretty much roamed around the whole time and jumped in to help workout needing to be called over. I was impressed. They took group photos for us and we left with our beautiful projects! We can't wait to come back. They have events for kids as well.

A Crocheter's Haven As someone who spends a lot of time in the fiber arts section, I'm always impressed by their yarn selection. They do a great job of keeping the popular brands in stock, and the aisles are usually tidy, which makes color-matching so much easier. I recently stopped in for supplies to start a new project, and I found exactly what I needed for a magic ring setup and some specialty hooks that were sold out online. If you aren't using the Michaels App, you're leaving money on the table. I always pull up my 20% or 40% off coupons at the register, and the 24-hour price protection is a lifesaver. Plus, if you're a Michaels Rewards member, those $5 vouchers add up fast! Check the clearance endcaps near the back of the store first! We visited the store in search of making a charm bracelet bar for a birthday party . We asked for help and there was only two employees in the whole store and we were trying to figure out why there were no charms or we couldn't find XYZ and we were having so many other little issues. It seems like they have the same six different charms and different styles. We were looking for book related charms and you know summer seasonal travel and they just didn't have it. The lady became a little frustrated and I just told her forget it. It's no big deal. Have a great day and we left.
