It's huge, multiple levels. There are at least three slides coming out from it. Lots of places for kids to climb and scurry and jump. But that part was too big for my kiddo so we went to the smaller section a few steps away. There was a structure to climb, several slides, some bars, and then even a little further away a bunch of swings. I tried to keep her from seeing the swings, to be honest, since I didn't want to have to deal with an upset kiddo when we had to leave without enough swing time. She played around a bit but didn't seem as interested in the playground. We went down a slide or two, but some of them had standing water since it has been a bit rainy recently. The playground isn't technically fenced in, but it is effectively so because it's behind the practice courts which are all fenced in. It'd be hard for your kid to get away from you. There's a parking lot for the Norridge Park District building but the neighborhood parking could be tricky, especially in the summer because there is restricted parking from Memorial Day to Labor Day (ostensibly because of the large pool structure that would keep the residents from having any parking for three months otherwise). The terrain of the park is wood chips and soil, decidedly not my favorite (maybe especially after a rain) and she got dirty pretty quick. I may bring her back when she's old enough to play on the rocket ship, but this won't be a park that we return to much if ever.

It had all the best components of a park, with lots of attention being focused on exploration and discovery. I did not see any swings, but there was plenty to climb on and signs posted everywhere encouraging the parents to not be helicopter parents... to let their child explore and try to problems solve on their own. There was a man-made creek running through one edge of the park and half the children were in bathing suits and had shovels and buckets with them. My grandkids declared it the best park they've ever visited! The playground is attached to a large piece of land that has tons of walking paths and picnic areas along with nice bathrooms and an educational nature center! It would be very easy to spend the better part of a day here!

It has wood floors, scoreboards, and a small bleacher section (5 rows) on one side. There are regular daily open gym hours, and many other activities. Pioneer also has a swimming pool, baseball diamond, football field, and tennis courts. It also has the best fenced in, lighted, full court outdoor basketball court in all of Arlington Heights. Highly recommended!

Went to Birchwood Park District for the first time today for my son's toddler b-ball class. Upon…read morewalking in, first impression.....facilities look pretty small and fairly old (though I saw a sign that said a new indoor pool just opened in August). However, five stars goes to the park district for an amazing toddler b-ball class. I'm a bit blown away by how interactive, fun, and age appropriate it was for my son (he's 3 years old). We've been to other park district classes in other states and we were never too thrilled about the quality of teaching. The class was small (maybe some kids were missing), but they ended up having a one to one teacher to kid ratio, so each kid got lots of attention. They started off with stretching, pretended to be different animals and raced across the gym as those animals, and had one on one training with their coach to learn how to dribble, bounce pass, shoot the b-ball into a kiddie hoop, and more. My son loved it. This was only the first day, so can't really say how the course was as a whole, but so far so good. Thanks to the coaches (Coach Jack, Coach Diana, and Coach Andy) for a superb job.
