I need floral arrangements three to five times per year: for Valentine's Day; my wife's birthday; our anniversary; and occasionally, Thanksgiving or Christmas. For the longest time, I relied on Florabella to provide me with creative arrangements made from what were often unusual and difficult-to-find flowers. The business was well-organized and kept its schedule reliably, attractive traits to a nerd such as myself, and it sold its creations at a reasonable price. I could drop off a vase at the shop, conveniently located in Bay Ho, and, a few days later, either pick up my flowers or have them delivered to my house. However, by fall of 2019, owners Sarah Newstead and Jennifer Bull were gone, and the shop had moved from San Diego to Coronado Island, a virtual world away from the one I inhabit. Prices had risen, phone calls were no longer promptly returned, and the whole enterprise began to feel desperate and amateurish, like Mom had left the kids in charge, and maybe they were in a little over their heads. So I've stopped using Florabella, because, in the immortal words of Kimberly "Sweet Brown" Wilkins, "Ain't nobody got time for that." The VAST majority of the good reviews are from years ago and mention someone totally different than the person I spoke to, Shanel, who is the new owner. Don't let the previous good reviews lure you in like they did me. Spoke w/ Shanel on 2/7 and asked if she would have rainbow roses and roselilies by V-Day. She said that would not be a problem. I had left my credit card at home so needed to call the next day. I called shortly after 10am on 2/8 and ordered. When confirming the rainbow roses Shanel mentioned roses that looked like they had the rainbow splattered on them. I said "if you can get the splattered version let's do that and then I for sure want roselilies; they look like stargazers but have multiple layers and I do not want star gazers. Shanel said she knew exactly what I was talking about. I told her price did NOT matter but I wanted a "wow" factor to the bouquet so how many stems of the rose lily would I need and she said 6. I said we can do more but she assured me it would look great with the filler and greens. On 2/13 I didn't know which version of the roses I was getting so I called to ask. The whole seller was only able to bring regular rainbow roses (these are more pastel rainbow than what I have gotten in the last - but whatever) so l said that's fine thank you. NO mention of not getting my roselillies. On 2/14 I go to pick-up my flowers and as soon as I saw them was disappointed. She's moved to Santee but I was picking up at the flower stand on Orange: What a disappointment and disaster. ZERO rose lilies and what is in it's place - star gazers!! The exact flower I said I did not want when trying to describe roselilies to make sure she was understanding what I wanted. I looked at the guy and it wasn't his fault, but I just said this isn't what I ordered. It was now after 12 and I had a 1pm appointment so I took the flowers - I couldn't have nothing - and tried calling. On the 3rd attempt someone answered - I told her this isn't what I ordered and gives the phone to Shanel. To sum up my conversation - Shanel this isn't what I ordered. I don't understand why you would give me star gazers? Shanel: The whole seller didn't have roselilies so we gave you "our best" star gazers. Me: Why would you give me star gazers instead of calling me and asking what replacement flower I would like? Shanel: Well what flower would you have wanted? Me: Not star gazers. This is a generic flower that I can get at Vons for like $5. I would have asked you for something less ordinary had you called and asked. Shanel: Well, you can go back to the stand and have him give you different flowers Me: He doesn't have any flowers left. Shanel: More flowers are coming in like 20-30 minutes. Me: I have a 1pm meeting and cannot wait for the flowers and then to have these redone. And I thought you said I would be happy with the filler. This purple stuff is a disaster. It's literally the worst filler flower of all of them. What do you have in store there? Shanel then said well I can refund you for the rose lilies and then proceeds to tell me that I am being rude - when all I did was call to tell her my order is wrong and I should have been notified once she realized she didn't get my custom order flower in. Or, I don't know, when I called the day before she could have told me then as an option? When I told her my review wouldn't be pleasant she said "go ahead it won't hurt us. The Coronado Flower Lady has been around for decades - that may be true but Florabella isn't her and Florabella shouldn't get the Goodwill of a company merely for having been previously affiliated. Apparently, telling her that the stargazers are a generic flower and the purple filler is a disaster that is found on the side of the road, justified her yelling at me, telling me she pays her designers $25 an hour (how is this my concern?) and then hanging up on me. While yelling at me she repeatedly said I said the arrangement was trash, which I did not, I said the purple flowers are a disaster. Because in my opinion they are. To me, this bouquet had zero wow factor that I asked for. But once Shanel started going off I couldn't even answer her question as to what she could do to remedy the situation - I would have gone to Santee after my 1pm appointment On top of that, the quality of the flowers is POOR. 3/12 roses were noticeably overly opened, they will likely die by tomorrow; NONE of the generic "best" stargazers are open. strongly suggest avoiding if you would like to work with a florist who actually communicates order changes instead of arbitrarily adjusting with the exact flower you didn't want. read more

I looked on Yelp to find flower shops in San Diego, since I live in LA. I found the site and ordered online and the site was very easy to use. I also called to speak to someone, to get a bit more information and the lady was very sweet and helpful. I ordered the flowers (see picture) for my brothers wife, and everything looked wonderful however I didn't see any or as much orchids as I would've thought would be in the arrangement. The photo and description mentioned there would be orchids, and I didn't see them. I know that based off of what flowers you choose, the price varies. All in all, I was happy with them! I was really pleased with the service Florabella offered me this past Thursday! I walked in, welcomed by the sweet atmosphere of the place and a woman who was willing to go through any lengths necessary to make me feel comfortable and accommodated for. The flowers were for my mother, who was arriving from Canada in less than an hour no less! Using a picture and a thank you card for reference, I had sorted out my flower choices (and a budget!) with the help of one of the employees! The employee helping me even offered a hand in picking out the perfect glass vase! Right after my transaction, the owner Jen had put herself to work and wow, that was nice. It sounded like she was working magic on my arrangement in the back. You could tell the store paid attention to detail just looking at Jen at work! From what I had overheard from a phone call the employee was on, the flowers were always fresh and of high quality. They're never an assortment of flowers that'd die the next day either. But again, WOW - the bouquet was, indeed, magical. Jen brought it to the counter herself, looking impressed with her own work! I think I'm flower stupid. Hear me out okay? I remember back in the day, when I was a wee lad and I was trying to swoon on the ladies, I used to pick flowers from neighbor's yards to bring to them. Talk about trying to save lunch money! Then the next biggest thing was to go to a local grocery store and get my flowers there. Hit and miss, right? Then came evolution of the call and order 1-800 Flowers. To me, that was the most legit way to get flowers to someone STAT. Soon after, we have internet and you have Pro Flowers, company above and other vendors making it easy for you to order. Where this bothered me was it took the personal interaction with the florist completely out of the picture. Again, hit and miss. I've had some of the most beautiful flowers delivered and then I've had flowers that were about to kick the bucket or completely unsatisfactory in some other way. Guess what? I went back to to quick grocery store trips until very recently, with thanks to you Yelp reviewers and my trusty iPhone Yelp app, searched for the nearest florist from our apartment. Florabella ended up my first pick and the reviews looked promising. I ended up there today because my wife has been busting her ass at work and at home and working out like a beast. Our dog also decided to chew up some carpet today. Yeah, I needed something really nice. I was greeted immediately at the door and told her my situation. She asked the best question I didn't even think about telling her as soon as I got in there, which was, "How much are you looking at spending?" Basic, but man, did it make sense! I told her how much and she walked me to the back to check out their stock of fresh flowers in the fridge. You can tell walking around that this place was legit and people were busy filling orders as they come in or that they needed to get done. I told her I know she loves a fall theme, and she said it would only be 5-10 minutes. She introduced me to the girl that was going to take care of me, then walked me to the front to fill out my order. I walked up to the counter and filled out a small card, sat down at their table in front and as I was talking, BOOM, the flowers were right there on the table beside me. In my initial review I expressed disappointment with the open tulips in the arrangement I ordered. Tulips are my personal flower of choice as I have live tulips on my desk every week. It was revealed to me by the owners that San Diego was experiencing very high temperatures and this is the reason why the tulips were fully opened. I was unaware of the weather factor there. I do understand that this can be a risk in terms of tulips. They will open rapidly in the heat. I went online and filled out their online order form and there's a section to describe the arrangement you want and I described the one they had online. Super easy! I then receive a phone call from Sarah who let me know about the arrangement, she told me how some flowers they don't have stock but could pick flowers from the same color palette which I was totally okay with. Florabella did a superb, breathtaking job with the arrangement I ordered. I ordered and had delivered an arrangement for a very close and special friend of mine, to whom I, regrettably, had not been such a great friend to in the prior weeks. I hoped these flowers would be beautiful enough to "buy" me an opportunity with which I could redeem myself and reinvigorate this all-too-important friendship between myself and my friend. These flowers did just that, and I couldn't be more thankful to Florabella for the hand they played in all of this. Florabella works differently than most florists. Their ordering system is set up similarly to an "omakase" type deal at a sushi restaurant--where you sit down at the bar and ask the sushi chef to completely select and design your entire meal, taking into account a few of your spoken preferences and using his own best judgement, knowledge of his art, and consideration for particularly fresh cuts of fish they have on hand that day, in order to serve you up a bomb.com, totally unique and customized "just to your liking" meal. It's similar at Florabella. Their online gallery is divided and grouped into various themes--by everything from festive occasions and times of year (fall, spring, Mother's Day, weddings, etc.) to general sentiments, such as "I'm sorry," "My condolences," "I think your dog got my dog pregnant and now we need to figure out what to do about this litter of puppies ... " etc. Each arrangement has its corresponding price listed below its picture. From there, you call, drop by their shop in person, or navigate to their online ordering form. I chose the latter and perfectly recommend it, as it was simple, straight-forward, and offered plenty of room for added comments and customization, but I can only imagine that they must be absolutely wonderful in person and offer lots of great advice and help with your arrangement, should you elect to call or drop by the store to plan out your arrangement and place your order. From there, you list your budget for the arrangement, itself--what the ordering form terms the "flower budget" and omits taxes and the delivery fee (should you choose to have the arrangement delivered) but does include the vase that the arrangement will be set in, as well as the card with your message. Following that, you list the arrangement you've chosen and specify if you'd like an identical replica of the arrangement or if you'd, instead--and more within the spirit and intention of Florabella's operating philosophy--prefer that they use this arrangement as a template and guiding inspiration for your final arrangement. Then, you describe any particular additions, omissions, and/or substitutions you wish to include in your custom arrangement, and if you think it will aid in the construction of your arrangement, describe the general sentiment you wish your flowers to express and request and describe any sort of customization(s) your heart desires. Alternatively, you may describe your own arrangement, designing one totally from scratch, and they'll be delighted to work with you on that, as well. Personally, I recommend anyone looking to order from Florabella do as I did: select an arrangement from their gallery and list it in the ordering form, asking them to use it as a template and inspiration with respect to the general flower types and combinations to use, as well as the color palette to adhere to and then request that they freely use their own discretion and best judgement, as well as knowledge of their own inventory, to add and substitute any particularly fresh and exemplary flowers that they think will complement the arrangement, elevating the piece, making it all the more breathtaking, beautiful, and special. They did a sincerely wonderful job with this, and I couldn't be happier with the way they incorporated all of my thoughts and requests, particularly the way they used their own knowledge and expertise to individualize and customize my arrangement, making it special and setting it apart from the example in their catalogue. My friend adored her arrangement. It was the perfect size to adorn her desk without crowding her work space. The vase was sturdy and facilitated easy transport home from work, all while looking sleek, elegant, and clean. The arrangement, itself, was absolutely lovely and wonderfully fragrant. Coworkers said they could smell it down the hall and that it smelled divine without being the least bit overwhelming. Coworkers also remarked, multiple times, by several different coworkers, all independently of one another, that the arrangement was, immediately apparent, expensive, likely $150-200. In reality, I paid $91, with tax, delivery, and tip and felt like I got a killer deal. I've seen similar arrangements sell for, easily, twice the price, and I could tell that my flowers were all top quality and hand-picked. I can't recommend Florabella enough. Wow. This is a place I will go to again and again. The staff is super helpful, cheerful and adorable, the storefront itself is beautiful and a joy to walk into and the product is gorgeous and reasonably priced. Florabella is around the corner from me. I had gone there many times to get little cards, simple bouquets and vases. But this time around I was getting married! So, I abused their staff with various questions over the course of several months and they always acted delighted to see me when I stopped by. They supplied me (sometimes free of charge!) with samples of the orchids I needed for my centerpieces and, finally, created a stunning bouquet for my beach wedding arch. And then there was the defining moment. I forgot to pick up my arch-bouquet the morning of my wedding. The wedding was to begin at 4pm and I received a call from Florabella staff at 2:30pm just checking in with me! They offered to drive the bouquet, free of charge, to Point Loma where my wedding was but I managed to get one of my bridesmaids to pass by for it instead. I recently used Florabella for my wedding and could not be happier. They made the bouquets, centerpieces, corsages for the bridal party, and provided flowers for the cake. I was looking for a florist that was affordable but also that understood my vision for the wedding. We had non matching milk glass centerpieces with some regular size vases and others that were clusters of bud vases. They completely understood my idea of loose buds with a vintage look and pulled it off more beautifully than I had imagined. All of the staff members at Florabella were extremely professional and so nice to work with. They were easy to reach over the phone and via email and even sent me a confirmation a few days before the wedding letting me know everything was on track. They arrived on time the day of the wedding to set up the centerpieces and the room looked gorgeous when they were finished. Overall I cannot recommend these ladies enough. The flowers were hands down my favorite part of the wedding decor.
