I was looking to sell my late aunts jewelry and some of the peices came from Flora's. My family had alos shopped with them in the past so i thought it would be a fair place to sell jewelry that we had no interest in keeping. I took in close to 100 peices and they were mostly 14K gold several peiceses i had receipts for from Flora's. With that being said there were three rings that my aunt had paid a total of 16,000 dollars for in the last two years Flora's were going to give me 4,500 for all three of these. I did not expect full price back but 20 cents on the dollar seemed quite low to me. With the other jewelry the man just weighed it because he stated that they were stones and rings that they would not be interested in sellling how ever several had been sold to my aunt from them. Once he weighed it he would not tell me how many ounzes of gold i had just that he was going to give me 17,500 dollars for what i perceived as at least a pound or 2 of jewelry as well as the three forementioned rings. It seemed very shady when i asked about the larger rings and he told me that she had bought them from the estate section and that they were offering me more than they paid for them in the first place. Which to me seems like they made about 4500 per ring once and were going to do it again so at that point i left and will probally will not be back. I try to shop local businesses but i find it hard when i do not think that they are fair to their customers. read more

I'll start off by stating I have been a customer of their Jeweler for several years and followed him from his previous employers shop to this one. I even wrote a letter on his behalf when things didn't seem right with his departure. Steve is by far one of the best fellas out there and very good at his craft. I sent my my wife into their shop in Decatur to have a ring resized. I had purchased this ring from a big box retailer and over the years after having it resized up and down it needed to be re-shanked. I had this procedure done several months before I sent my wife into their shop for the resizing. I had the band shanked to a size 9. I decided to wear this ring on a different finger and wanted it to be sized down to an 8. Knowing how good Steve's work is I decided NOT to deal with the big box store and let him do this simple procedure. The lady whom I will not name quoted my wife $565 to have the ring sized down one full size. My wife called me immediately to make sure that was what I wanted. I was blown away. I've had this procedure done by him many times before on many different rings at another shop for about $50. I told her no way that is a ridiculous amount. My wife also stated that she was treated as if we were beneath the sales person. I guess this place is only for the wealthy and if you ask for simple work on big box rings they will price you out to go elsewhere. Sad thing is I had a warranty on the ring and had it done for free at the big box store. I was willing to pay just to send Steve the business. I hope Steve the very best and wish him continues success. I will be in the market for a Rolex for my 45th birthday. I know exactly where I won't be shopping. Absolute Gem! Went to get a family heirloom ring resized and Jim at Flora Gems went above and beyond. They are the only area jeweler who does the resizing in-house. Others in the area send out for resizing, which takes longer. The main advantage of this is that when the resize didn't fit perfectly as my fingers swelled, Flora could adjust it there right there on-site. Which was a huge help and now the ring fits perfectly! So happy!!! Service like this deserves a shout out! ....Even if Jim is unfortunately a White Sox fan ;) Friendly service and very trustworthy. read more

Jewelry stores can be fun. My wife and I are from Chicago, IL and she was excited to be driving to Decatur, IL to pick up her newly designed ring. Using an existing larger diamond as a centerpiece, my wife and Julie Schafer at Flora Gems designed a beautiful new wedding anniversary ring. It's just gorgeous. And then Julie showed us a hidden "gem" of this wonderful jewelry store, the estate alcove. Just off the main store is a smaller room with jewelry from estate sales at some very attractive prices. I came to Flora Gems of Decatur for my wife, but ended up with a gorgeous 7 diamond ring for myself. A beautiful guy's ring. 5 stars! A big shout out to Flora Gems! I have a pair of bifocals with round lenses that I have had for +20 years. The nose piece was broken and eye doctor's office said they couldn't fix them. I took them to Flora's today, was immediately greeted by John Flora. My glasses were repaired with a laser welder, and I picked them up within 3 hours.
