It had not been tuned in years and sounded like nonsense because of that, but the action and all keys worked great, so I had it moved from the upper east side to Bushwick. I hired another tuner I found on google with decent reviews. He showed up late, fiddled around for a few minutes, then judgementally asked if I had a piano tech look at it before moving. He basically told me it was worthless, made me feel stupid for paying to move it, and wouldn't even try to tune it-what if I wanted to have it re-stringed? Like, how do you know what lengths i would go to restore it? He offered me no opinions or options and I felt completely mansplained. He thankfully didn't charge me a "consult" fee due to his tardiness. Fast forward, my husband called little ear and explained the situation, as I just didn't believe this beautiful grand piano belonged in a dump. We got an appointment within days. Our piano tech was friendly and cool, and explained that while the knobs were a weird size, he could get to work on it, and suggested tuning to 410 (baroque pitch basically) to avoid breaking the strings. I was like, great! I'm a classical soprano who sings a lot of baroque music anyways, and just want to play recreationally/don't care if Debussy sounds a half step lower than 440. Like, I just wanted it playable, I'm not playing at Carnegie Hall on it tomorrow. He offered me a totally chill and easy solution for an instrument I just want to play for my own enjoyment. In less than two hours, suddenly I heard him playing Bach in my living room and it sounded beautiful. I was so excited! The piano not only looks so beautiful in my apartment, but I have really enjoyed getting back into practice because it is now actually playable. Not only did they do a great job, but they were totally unpretentious and not snobby about working on an older piano and offering me a solution, even if it's less than conventional. I will be using again!

I still wanted to get some practice out of it before chucking it (I'm a bit sentimental, as it's been in the family for so long), and Little Ear Piano Repair was still able to fix a broken string and tune it as well as reasonably possible, which was fine, as I'm just an amateur and not a professional piano player. It was all done pretty affordably, too, which was another plus. So, needless to say, I couldn't be happier with the service, and it comes highly recommended.

Though we've wanted a piano for years, we had looked only casually before being struck by Isaac's philosophy: taking pianos and touching them up or even restoring them to sell to people across a wide range of budgets and skill levels. When I reached out, Isaac responded promptly, and we had a long conversation assessing what we were looking for in a piano. When we went to his shop, he explained the origin of the pianos he had and what made each different. He graciously let us try everything from a Baldwin spinet to a beautiful late-1800s Steinway (which he knew was NOT in our price range!). We ultimately settled on a warm Charles Walter upright, made by a smaller American company we hadn't been familiar with but that - - besides making great pianos - - has business values we appreciate as a bonus. The piano movers Isaac works with are excellent: they arrived promptly and carefully navigated the piano up several steps through a narrow entrance, in and out within fifteen minutes. Now we're beyond excited to have this beautiful piano sitting in our living room and highly recommend Isaac and Prosper Pianos.

After a recent move, I wanted to find somebody relatively local to service my piano and, after doing some research, found Jake. All I can say is that the reviews about him are extremely accurate! Communication was excellent, he is punctual, and he will give you a pretty accurate estimate on the pricing prior to booking the appointment. The piano sounded great after the initial tuning, and he also replaced some clips on the Dampp-Chaser that were damaged during the move, as well as replacing the pads and liner. I had some regulation work done on the piano about 20 years ago and was never very happy with the piano action after that work. I mentioned this to Jake and he told me that the regulation was currently not in spec. He spent some time asking me what I disliked about the action, and he felt like there were many things that could be done to improve the playability. We scheduled a few additional appointments, and I couldn't be happier with the results! I think it actually plays and sounds even better than when I first purchased it many years ago, so if you are looking for somebody to service your piano, Jake has my highest recommendation!

I asked them to add the value of the piano to the contract and they refused. At one point they didn't want me to call so we had to go back and forth over text. Who does business that way??? To have the piano covered for its full value they asked me to pay $150 extra for insurance. How can a piano moving company not have their own liability insurance that covers the total cost of a piano??? Eventually I got tired of texting and went with someone else. Bottom line, train the people answering the phone so they understand the business, can make decisions and don't have to go back and forth to "the boss" and make the customers wait all day over text to get basic agreements settled. Very unprofessional.

There is also an extra 3% surchage if you use a credit card. There were no long, twisting stairwells to navigate (which I believe increases the cost), so a relatively straight-forward move. The company was very responsive via email with answers to my questions (usually within a day) and we booked a date. It snowed the day before the move, but the movers showed up on time, were very professional, and the move went very smoothly. I did not notice any issues upon delivery. I have a Dampp Chaser system attached to the bottom of the piano to help regulate the humidity around the sound board. About 1 week after delivery, I noticed that one of the bars from the Dampp Chaser was on the floor hanging from its power cable. It turns out that two clamps that hold the bar in place were broken, and the bar eventually fell (I think from general vibrations from playing the piano). I suppose maybe this could have been from just general wear, but the timing with the move was just a little odd, and it was two clips, not just one. I contacted the company via email (using the same e-mail address that I had used previously) with photos of the problem and received absolutely no reponse. Eventually, it was a pretty simple, inexpensive repair, but I was a little disappointed in their lack of response (which is why I took off a star), and just wonder what would have happened if we were dealing with a bigger problem. I'm not going to pass judgement, I was otherwise happy with the move, but you can read about the interaction and decide for yourself how important this is if you chose to use this company. Update: So the company did reach to me, took responsibility for the damage, and offered to make it right. At this point, I did not take them up on their offer since it turned out to be a relative easy and inexpensive repair, but I just wanted to acknowledge their follow-up.
