Best of all, you won't spend hours getting a haircut. Their haircuts are exceptional and fast, $18 gets you in and out and on with your day. Bonus points for an authentic experience with random pictures and headlines on the wall dating back over 50 years. It's great, just call and make an appointment. Appointments aren't mandatory but they're usually booked up so it's best to make a call even if the appointment time you want is only an hour away. They've never started my haircut more than a couple minutes late, so it's important to be on time. If you're reading this and thinking to yourself, "This is wonderful, but I really wanted a pedicure to go with my haircut," no worries. When I came back, I politely raised a concern about my haircut, specifically that he did leave a noticeable bald spot that I do not have. Instead of handling the situation professionally, the barber immediately became defensive, argumentative, and dismissive. Rather than listening or trying to understand the issue, he flat-out denied any problem and insisted that my hair was "thinning," which was both inaccurate and unnecessary. (All I did up to this point was mention what he did) I explained that I am very familiar with my own hair and would know if my hair was thinning, I want to also mention that I'm 21, but the conversation continued to be met with resistance and attitude instead of any willingness to resolve the concern. He then insults me saying "your hair is thinning everywhere". At no point did I raise my voice or act disrespectfully--I simply expected a reasonable, professional response. The interaction ended with me being waved off without any attempt to acknowledge the issue or offer any form of resolution. I'm not sure if it was because I'm Hispanic or if he's just a very upset human being. Other than that, the haircut still sucked, the lines weren't straight, you can still see the lines in my hair that he didn't fade out correctly, he also cut too much off the top.

I've been going to Jay my whole life (seriously, there's a pic of me back when I was like 2 sitting…read morein his chair, crying my eyes out). I can still remember going in there when people would be smoking up a storm, and I would always go looking for the one old man with the great smelling pipe. While some of the supporting cast has changed, Jay remains there as the constant, ever-present in his middle chair. The place as a whole has not changed much over the years, though they recently added an HDTV and DirecTV. Some people may think this would take away from the casual barbershop conversation, but it has only enhanced it. This is one of those stereotypical barbershops where you could easily go in and spend the whole day talking to people about anything and everything. The atmosphere is small town, laid back, and relaxed. Out of all the haircuts I've had from different barbers in my life, Jay is the only one who has never screwed it up. Whether it was carving lightning bolts when I was 8, to a flat top in my teens, now thankfully to something a little more professional, Jay gets it right every time, and for a fraction of the cost of almost everyone else.
