One star is generous.
This bar looks so promising, not least because it is connected to The Kitchen Garden Cafe, a well-known and loved restaurant. We went for a Sunday lunch and were bitterly disappointed. We knew it was a bar, but the "food being served" sign outside the door made us think lunch wouldn't be a problem.
The menu was limited, we ordered from the rude and incompetent Alice, who didn't know what was in the dishes, and was not prepared to write down any extra requirements, ie. no nuts. 20 minutes after we had ordered we were told by the waitress that 50% of the limited menu was not available, and that we needed to change our order. Once we had made our new selections she then wandered around the rest of the restaurant before taking our new orders to the kitchen almost 5 minutes later.
Nearly 40 minutes later there was still no sign of our food. We asked the staff how long the food would be to which he said another 30 minutes. At this point, an hour after we arrived we decided to leave.
We understand that the kitchen can be busy, and that sometimes items on a menu simply run out. The problem here was the rude staff who made no apologies and no effort to rectify our situation, no offer of bread or nibbles were made, and a simple order of a cup of tea took half an hour to bring to the table.
Fletchers is to be avoided at all costs during daylight hours. We cannot speak for the nighttime bar element of the establishment, but would have little confidence in them based on the staff that they hire and entrust to run a simple lunch menu. read more
