I showed up 20 minutes before they closed. I'm starving, but I know a lot of places shut down the…read moregrill that close to closing. So I asked if they were still serving anything, and the manager says "YES!! Anything on the menu!!" I had the mushroom Swiss burger which is probably the best burger I've had a very very very long time. The meat is amazing and local. they recommended a beer which is also local and amazing. I had beer battered fries with my burger and I wish I could take home that crunchy goodness. The burger was cooked medium which is perfect (and it actually came out medium, not some dry hunk of meat). I am going to bring my niece back here tomorrow night for the lamb burger (also local meat). I HIGHLY recommend!! Price: $11 for the 1/2 lb burger. (To put that in perspective, I paid $16 for a 5 oz burger in Jackson, Wy, and the flavor of this one here beat that all the heck). $4 for the beer battered fries. The burger comes with chips, but I watched some dude eat those fries, and just had to have them. YUMMMMM! Service....impeccable, friendly, made me feel at home. And no rush to kick me out when I was done eating.

I wish I could give zero stars!!! Why would you order HOT food and have both doors wide open?…read morePeople were sitting there with their coats on hoodies up .. Freezing. When you ask to please for the love of God close the doors they say No, the doors have to stay open. Is that because the cook hoods aren't cleaned and the place would fill up with smoke? New Atlas Bar is incredible, and absolutely a must-stop anytime you are driving west from Billings…read more I researched before coming to MT, so I knew about the bar, but I'd love more people to know about this historic bar, plus....$2.50 Miller Lite drafts. What I would not have guessed before walking in, New Atlas is super clean and nice. Though it's old, you would never know it. The bar's front facade is classic. Walk under the awning/sign and through the front door, past the gaming room, and into the main bar. The bar itself is to your left, and there are several high top tables to the left. The floor is a beautiful well-worn wood, and the ceiling is painted, maybe copper, tile. Of course, there dead animals all over the place, and that is just cool. No idea how they keep them free of dust, but they do. The actual bar is absolutely incredible. It's what every bar should look and feel. The bar has a dark wooden bar top with a small rail resting on a bar face with decorated dividers and a slow curve. Below the bar face is a large box footrest. Now for my favorite part, the bar face. There are three beautiful arches, divided by columns and topped with a header, with intricate details. Within the arches are mirrors, the way it should be so you can see people behind you. Beyond the bar area is a game room with a pool table and video games. The service was super friendly, and I only wish more people knew to get off the interstate and visit this awesome bar.

Listed in the National Register the bar is a community institution and its "See em Dead Zoo" made it a tourist stop until the interstate came through. Real beer and booze vibe, old school. Not a place for microbrew fans frankly. But if you want the Montana bar experience from 50 years ago, here is a great place to start.
