There are technically two different grounds for RVers and I was happy to be back in the farther grounds (less traffic noise from street and more privacy). It is lacking a few amenities. Although they are in the works, there are only port-a-potties around the campground and no laundry facility at this time. If long terming here, I would prefer to have at least a place to do laundry. If we are ever in the area, we will definitely stay here again!

We've been at this RV park for a couple months now, and plan to be here for a couple more. We were…read morereferred here by a travel nurse group so, it felt like a good bet. We've been to some places that I don't feel really safe. I feel safe here, and don't worry about leaving chairs or belongings outside. The owner, Scott is great. When you text him, he responds faster than anyone else I know! He is working to improve the park and building little airbnb places on the property, so he is around much of the time. The park is quiet, and since it's winter, it's not really crowded. I believe that there are other travel nurses here too. We extended our assignment here in Elkins, so we plan to stay right here at Smokey Bottom Campground.

This area is known for the lake and for boating and outdoor recreation, so I understand that coming during a colder time probably put a slight damper on everything that should be taken with a grain of salt if you're reading this review. When we arrived there was no one in the office. It felt closed off and unattended. I wasn't able to go up into the lighthouse at all, which was super disappointing because for me it was the main draw. From the outside, the lighthouse was lovely to look at but I was really really hoping to be able to climb to the top. The rest of the grounds looked fine and this is definitely a place designed for overnight stays. I would definitely return but during the right season and when I am able to explore the lighthouse!

I had to repair it myself before I could take a shower. - light switches in odd places - very hard to find the location at night. No lighting or easy to see signage showing you the location. - leopard print bed sheets. Really? - hot tub water didn't smell clean. It was clear but had a foul smell to it. All in all, the cabin was OK for the price & location. But with other lodging options in the area, I would probably choose something that is better maintained.

This place should be listed "best kept secret". I've rented their Amish cabins 2 years in a row…read more For $65-75 a night you get a tiny cabin that sleeps six. Amenities include an attached bathroom, with 6 towels and 6 wash clothes, soap, small refrigerator, small microwave, coffee pot, coffee sugar packets, paper towels, table with 2 chairs and 2 additional folding chairs, TV with direct tv. Full size bed with twin bunk, loft area with 3 cot type mattresses on the floor. Loft area is definitely meant for kids since you can't stand up I that area, but they need to be old enough to climb a ladder and be responsible enough not to "fall". Bed linens, pillows and blankets are also included. Cain is very clean. They do allow dogs for en extra $25 (one-time cost). They don't charge extra for more people like some other places that say they sleep 6 but charge you for every person more than 2. Also outside is a picnic table and small fire area. The only negatives I can say is that the cabins are pretty close together which is strange since there seems to be a lot of in occupied land, towels are not the best quality, and pillows are pretty flat, we doubled up since we didn't have 6 people. The other nice thing is that once you make the reservations your key is in a lock box next to the door. No need to have to "check-in" or out. There not a lot to do in the camp ground itself, it just has a dozen cabins and some RV sites. But your only 1 1/2 mile for the new river bridge and my favorite pizza place Pies and Pints. Tons of hiking and biking trails within a few miles and white water rafting close by. Definitely the best deal in town!!

We got to this park in the middle of the night, and had everything all pre-arranged with the office (including payment). When we got here, the roads were a bit narrow, but, even in the blizzard conditions, we were able to make our way (albeit very slowly) back to our lot. Once we got there, the pad itself is completely paved, and relatively level. The width of the pad is the exact width of our bus, therefore, you need to have a bit of driving skills to maneuver around here. We got one of the 50 amp sites (only 6 on property) and had a great view of the lodge and resort through our main windows. In addition, we have seen a law enforcement officer, plow truck, and one or two park vehicles drive by since we have been here. Oh yeah, we are the only people here now. One thing I will say about the park. The spots are not all that long, and there is really no reason for that. There is plenty of space at the end of the paved pad to continue on for 20-25 additional feet. I am not sure why they do not do that. Anyhow, on to the resort. The resort is a short walk across a beautiful foot bridge that extends over the water that surrounds the campground. When we got over there, we went to go book our spa appointments, and take a look at the indoor pool. You can read my other review on the resort for more information for that resort. Suffice it to say, that NOT ALL AMENITIES at the resort are included with the price of admission to the campground. During the winter months, it is $8 a day for up to four people to use the indoor / outdoor pool and hottubs. This is just a nuisance fee that truly serves no purpose. Just ask before you assume here. The rate during the summer is $15 a day for four people to use the pool or hottubs. The campground has beautiful amenities, and is really a nice place to stay and relax. During the summer months, the trees would be in full bloom, and would allow you to take advantage of the fire ring and nice gravel picnic areas on each site. This is definitely a place we will be coming back to.
