The Riverfront Trail goes along the Columbia River with amazing views of the scenery and is well-maintained. We walked part of the Riverfront Trail in the downtown Richland area and I can't say anything bad about it. The trail was well paved as people could walk, bike or rollerblade due to its flat and smooth surface. Many people use this trail and along it, were benches and trash bins. I recommend walking along the Riverfront Trail when you're in Richland as it gets you up close to the Columbia River and depending on where you are, you could even stop in and swim or dock off from it on an American West cruise ship. A space where you can walk and get fresh air is needed in all communities and this is an exceptional one in Richland.

With the recently paved sections added to the Bradley Landing section, the trail now spans four miles from Leslie Groves Park to Columbia Point. It's a flat and wide trail that meanders through a variety of extremely palatable scenery along the Columbia River. Mucho gusto! However, I do have a question. Milfoil is the bane of Green Lake and Lake Washington. But on the Columbia River, it's dead tumbleweeds. They collect in huge mounds around boat docks and in the river's nooks and crannies. Which agency, if any, is responsible for tumbleweed cleanup? Would it be the City of Richland, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers or the State of Washington?

Here there is a campground, large grassy fields (for doggies to run like maniacs), a boat launch, hiking paths, and bathrooms. I've been here to run my dogs around, attempt some fly fishing (we were skunked), and most recently to geo-cache. Oh, and apparently, you can also ride your horse around here as well. Interesting.

So I asked my husband...Iasnt it pelicans are suppossed to be in the Ocean? You know Salt Water Ocean? He said yes... And so today we agreed to go in there and to my surprised.."YES!" Theres alot of pelican in there and some other kind of birds that I never seen before here in the tri-cities.. I also saw some herons...WOW! this is the first time I saw pelicans and herons...really neat! I cannot really go so close but I told somepictures from the side of the water. It was neat. The park itself is not that big though I saw few trais and some camp site with RV Parking (with electrical plugs and water faucets)... each parking has a picnic tables too. The bathrooms are surprisingly clean even the park look like deserted. You should try to go to this park if you want to see something new.

There's tons of open space for picnics, barbecues, or just hanging out by the water, and areas to play games like volleyball. Kids will love the play area and the nearby Richland Rotary Beach too. What I also liked is how close it is to restaurants and coffee spots--just a quick 5-10 minute walk if you want to grab food or drinks. Overall, it's a really nice park with something for everyone. It's no surprise that during our time here, Howard Amon Park served as a gathering space for all the locals. We visited Howard Amon Park a few times as it's located along the Columbia River Trail with many different amenities here for multiple activities. There are many playgrounds, a small wading area for kids, water fountains, bathrooms, dog poop bags, benches, BBQ grills, and the best part - swimming docks. On those sunny days, Howard Amon Park is a great place to hang out in and cool down with a swim in the Columbia River. Howard Amon Park is located in the downtown area of Richland, walking distance to many businesses and lodging options. Wanted to ride the trail here, but within tens of feet, I was sadly turned away....by gravity. Yeah, I had to get off and walk. I then made it to a point and saw where the trail ultimately went. Ummm...scary. The only way I could make it to the top was if there was a "mountain bike escalator"--until that happens, this trail is strictly for the big-quaded hikers! PLAN B I took the gravel road (for autos) to the top of Horse Heaven (and to the trailhead I parked at last time). It's a nice steady 2-mile climb. My legs were feeling it, and I was liking it. To your left are the beautiful Horse Heaven Hills and the sky; to your right, the towns of Kiona, Prosser, and wineries---all from a stellar birdseye viewpoint. I heard a gunshot at one point. This caused me to stop and scan the farms below, but I couldn't see anything. I continued up at a cautious cadence. I made it to the top trailhead, and continued along the ridge trail (the one I tried last year--see my original Yelp). A personal note---this time I didn't have to walk up the hill. I made it all the way up via pedal power (stopped once, cuz of a balance issue, but got back in the saddle and finished off the hill---rocks, burly wind, and all). The descent was definitely sexy. There's nothing like barreling down a hill like a mad demon. At only a 20min drive away, this is a decent option for getting a quick leg workout. UPGRADE TO 3.5 stars (rounding UP).

There is also a sandy area on the opposite of the wake area for kids and adults alike to swim, splash, and enjoy the summer. I loved the structures, in addition to all the beautiful trees, that helped give shade on this brutal summer. In addition, I noticed there were bathrooms for changing and water faucets to wash the sand off your feet with a massive parking lot that is appreciated. During my stay I also noticed a walking path and a couple of volleyball courts that were in play throughout the day. Very well done and I look forward to returning soon!
