I called 10 minutes before to say I was coming at appropriately 6pm in the evening, 1 hour and 30 minutes before they closed and he said that was "okay". I then arrived and he said he was going to go to the toilet. I then said okay to this. He then took a long time, a further 5/6/7 minutes in the bathroom. I just waited for him and when he came out, he then said he would go for a cigarette but would come back and give me "good haircut". I again said okay. I waited another 5/6/7 minutes which was nearly 15 minutes in total and decided that this man had completed disrespected me and my time. I then walked out to leave and he goes "oh I can finish my cigarette and give you good haircut", I explained I needed to go as I didn't want any conflict but his behaviour was out of order and it's not the first he's behaved inappropriately. I won't be using this hairdresser again and they've lost a customer based on this extremely poor experience, which is anxiety inducing when you had a plan and go out of your way to get a haircut and someone wastes a lot of your time it's not right at all

I've been growing my hair for two years and I wanted the ends taken off, the useless guy who cut my hair ended up taking 1/4 of it off. Then he washed it after he'd already cut it, for no reason than to charge me an extra £3. Go to Mufti's in the City Centre, marginally more expensive (£7) but you leave with a decent haircut.

Although absolutely tiny, sat there all forlorn on the point where Palatine road and Wilmslow road converge, inside it's like that 'space box' in which the Doctor fella drives female companions around the bends of space and time. Seriously, you'll wonder how they manage to fit in a small tub of American Salon hair cream never mind space for three hairdressing points, a reception, bathroom and mini kitchen. I'm convinced it's all done with smoke and mirrors but I'm too under the kosh of sharp scissors to ask about it. Apparently (I was told by staff this very week) this used to be a small depot for conductors being based as it is on the busiest bus route in Europe and not as most people assume a public convenience. Five years ago this was morphed into it's current role as a barbershop. Alan who used to own this place has now for Australia and left the shop to Mike who along with Mike now run the place. They're lovely guys full of mirth, intelligence and most importantly can cut hair very well. These kind of places are important to the fabric of the Withington community and it looks like this place will do well for many, many years. No appointment is necessary although Saturdays can get very busy, so try and get there just after it opens (10am) to avoid a little wait (they'll never rush a cut to appease the waiting customers mind).

I first went here prior to moving to Manchester on the advice of a friend who already lived here…read more Situated in Didsbury it's actually about 10 minutes drive from where I live and definitely not the closest but i'm quite the creature of habit and i like what i know. That's not to say it's not deserving of my custom. I usually get a pretty decent hair cut which is a far more thorough job than what i had come to expect from barbers in Halifax. That being said, they were roughly £5 for a cut, a standard dry cut here is £15 so I would expect a better job. I find the experience differs a little bit depending on who you get (as you would likely expect) but there is always a lot of banter being thrown around between the staff and most of the staff are very chatty with customers as well. Regarding the banter between the staff, some people might not appreciate the language sometimes used or the topics but i personally find it all pretty funny. They do usually seem to keep a lid on it when there's kids around though. I normally get there around 10 minutes before it opens to make sure i'm at the front of the queue. On a Saturday it can get very busy, with the wait being over an hour if you're unlucky or they're short staffed...personally i'm too impatient for that. Overall i would recommend Maclures as it provides decent hair cuts in a chilled, entertaining environment but it falls short of being 5 stars.

There are two Maclures barber shops in manchester, one in the Northern quarter and one in Didsbury…read more Having visited both I felt more at home in the Didsbury branch although both are very good, the Didsbury one does have the advantage of being a cheaper cut however. The two barbers I have had cut my hair have both done a very good job, were knowledgeable about hair and styling and spent a good amount of time on the cut, neither haircut felt rushed, even my last one which took the barber 15 mins past closing time to finish. I recommend giving maclures a go, even if you are in the mindset of just wanting to get a cheap cut as I was like that until going here, £15 isn't too pricey for a cut anyway
