My parents and I did the Backcountry Boat Tour and we loved our experience. Wildlife is not guarenteed but we were lucky to see a plethora of birds and four wild crocodiles. Ry was our naturalist and Captain Nick ran the boat and both were amazing. Ry had mentioned that this was the most crocs she has seen out in a while. It was really cool to learn about the ecosystem, learn about the 3 mangroves, the waterways (what was manmade versus natural), and what the conservation of the area looks like. Both Ry and Nick had some great suggestions of what we should do the rest of the day and those trials did not disappoint. We thought it was well worth the money!

We rented kayaks here when visiting the Everglades. It was $32 for a tandem kayak for 2 hours which seems reasonable to me. We kayaked to Coot Bay and it took us a little longer than 2 hours, but they didn't charge us. We were hoping to see crocodiles, but we didn't. It was still a great place to kayak. We did see a lot of manatees when we got back to the marina. This was one of our favorite things we did in the park, so I definitely recommend it!

    Night skies are amazing!

Visiting the Everglades was a life bucket list for me. I had many, many questions about lodging in Flamingo and every single one of my interactions with the staff was stellar. The lodge wasn't ready yet (and when it is, it will be an excellent option) but the staff directed me to the winter season Eco Tents and I am so thankful for the experience. Winter tents still have furniture, a fan and linens. Summer is just the tent. The bed and bedding was very comfortable and thanks to high quality bug netting on the giant windows, we felt like we were a part of the amazing nature experience. The more you know about the place, the more you will get out of the experience. Be aware that all food must be stored in your car and you have to eat in the separate picnic area. Bathrooms are shared but clean and even have warm water. It was not buggy when we were there in late April but we were prepared in case it was. Read the information ahead and you'll be prepared. I just wish that we had prepared to stay longer. For this Northwesterner, this Florida experience was exceptional.

2:00p tour There were two tours available with departure times at noon and 2:00p. We missed the first tour so we signed up for the second one. Each tour lasted for about 90-mins. The boat is docked at the Flamingo Marina. We rode the Bald Eagle II pontoon boat with Captain Smitty and Tyler (1st officer). Both were seasoned naturalist who were knowledgeable about the coastal Mangrove habitat as we ventured into the Whitewater Bay exploring the Florida backcountry. We saw egrets and a water snake and I was really hoping to see more crocs but we weren't able to see much. For $35/person I thought it was a little expensive (I had more fun with the two swamp adventures in Louisiana). We did learn a lot from our two tour guide captains about the Everglades habitat as they tried to be entertaining too at their best. If touring in the summertime try to be one of the first ones to get on board so you can have your choice of seat. If you are one of the last ones to get on you will end up in the front which is not covered by the canopy and it gets hot under the sun! The ride was smooth with just a few spots of open water where we picked up speed. Don't forget sunscreen, bug spray, sunglasses and a hat. There is a general store onsite where we purchased the tour tickets. It was pretty big inside where they sold anything from ice cream to canned goods, auto products to souvenirs. Bought that can of insect repellent here. I remember the young staff to be nice and friendly. There are picnic benches outside under shade where we ate our snacks and ice cream. Items here are on the expensive side. Review #1764

The entrance fee is $35 per vehicle, and once you enter, I highly recommend stopping by the Visitor Center to check which park ranger tours are available that day and to get updates on weather conditions. The park map will be your best friend; aside from certain areas, cell service can be very spotty to completely nonexistent. I've explored almost all the trails throughout the Glades, and I definitely suggest packing accordingly and bringing plenty of snacks and water. As a dedicated border, I was delighted to find so many unusual birds here. The Ranger at the front gate glanced at my annual pass and handed me a free map. I didn't realize how important that map was until I found myself off the grid, which was marvelous. The number of different types of habitat was eye opening, and well explained on the map. Highly recommended. It's as impressive as the grand canyon.

We walked about the visitor center and the grounds. Learned more about the native wildlife from a teacher there. Many others were there for kayaking, paddleboarding, & fishing. The history of sponge harvesting in the bay was very educational. From here we took a two hour boat tour on the Stingray with pilot, Rick & tour gude Daniel. We went out to the northern end of the Florida keys as far as Boca Chita. A short hike & history lesson-was a private island most of the 1900s. Now it's a public site with a boat dock, beach, picnic area, & overnight camping by reservation. Help staff at the visitor center, clean restrooms, and a small aquarium. Recommend at least an hour here. But plan a full day to really explore. This National Park is a must see when in South Florida. Also out of Homestead is Everglades NP with for visitor centers for access. Thank you to all the staff & the boat tour guides. Nick & Liz, Albany, NY, USA

Upon check-in, we realized that they put in 18 people in a small boat, the whole boat was pretty packed. The second site was better with reefs and warmer water. Even with wetsuits the majority us were shivering the whole 45 minutes journey back to the land. Our captain spotted dolphins on our way back, there were 4-5 of them in clear waters and swam near to our boat. if you have two or more people, i think charter a boat is better.

TOHATSU DEALER FROM HELL…read more LHG MARINE might well take exception to my characterization of them as a Tohatsu Dealer from hell. LHG Marine might explain that they don't sell a lot of Tohatsu Outboard motors, in fact my motor was apparently their first Tohatsu sale. LHG Marine might say that I am the customer from hell, and no doubt they consider me an uppitty customer. LHG Marine VP SAMER HIJJAWI indicated he was mad, because I called Tohatsu after the installation of my small 50 HP motor was delayed twice by LHG Marine after it had been paid for in full. When Mr Hijawi gave me a new starting date but not a finishing date for this small job, I called Tohatsu and asked them to communicate on my behalf. The problems, and certainly LHG Marine may have another take on this, have to do with the delay in installing the engine and a disagreement on what height the engine was to be installed at. That is a he said she said matter. To be objective I will include a quote from a letter LHG Marine emailed to me under the signature of LHG Marine Sales Manager "EDDY" Eddy is a man of many hats. He is also the Tohatsu Mechanic. The subject of the quote is taking the boat for a spin to confirm that the propeller is cavitating, because the engine was mounted to high. "We definitely can take the boat for a test run to determine if the engine is cavitating or not as well to determine the best propeller size. As discussed already the labor rate for this would be $155.00 per hour. Unfortunately I can't provide you with an accurate estimate of the total since we don't have a flat rate for this type of application. Sea trials and water test are performed with two persons on board (technician and helper) and on weather permitting situation as we need optimum water condition for a safe environment. Tohatsu doesn't include this water test on the price of the engine, engines with water test package are more expensive since they pay the dealer to perform this test." LHG proposed to charge me for 2 technicians at $155 an hour each on a 13 foot boat. I feel like LHG Marine is "throwing the book" at me. Perhaps selling Tohatsu Outboards is only a distracting sideline for LHG Marine. LHG Marine appears to be the factory owned or controlled outlet for a boat manufacturer Release Boats. I would think that scenario would make it very difficult for LHG Marine to get dealerships for any other brands of fiberglass boats, because of their association with Release boats. Release apparently is able to sell Yamaha motors as an OEM. I wanted to have a relationship with the dealer to service my engine, but in view of the circumstances this is not quite a comfortable situation. Tohatsu makes a fine motor but because the brand is not so well known in the US, there are not many Tohatsu dealers in most areas. In my opinion, if you are considering dealing with LHG Marine, caveat emptor might be good to keep in mind.

They were good back in the day but I had no experience with LHG Marine. I called and spoke with Unai. He was helpful and professional and the price they quoted was fair. When I arrived to drop the boat off Unai showed me the materials and the shop. I also decided to add on a front Isinglass window to connect the Bimini to my existing windshield. I emailed pictures to Unai of a Bimini top on a boat like mine for reference and the job was started. Unfortunately I did not give them enough detail about the design of the canvas and installation on my boat and when the job was done it was not the way I had hoped it would turn out. When I let Unai know of my disappointment he assured me they would make it right. This time I drew out detailed information about the design and placement of the top and the front windshield. LHG made the changes I wanted and the top came out exactly the way I wanted it. Now I am very happy with the final results! It was completed in less than a week and the materials and quality is top notch. In retrospect I should have provided more information to LHG before to starting the job to assure it would be what I expected. I would suggest to anyone planning to purchase custom canvas for your boat to make a detailed drawing or diagram of the design and placement of you top before starting the job. This will assure that the job comes out just the way you expect and there are no surprises. I will happily recommend LHG Marine to my friends and hope they treat all their customers as well as I was treated!

They are passionate about the Everglades, preserving it, and really love what they're doing. For about hour, we zipped and stopped around the park, through channels in between the high saw grass, over grassy flats, and within a few canals dredged many years ago. The fresh air felt great and I think maybe my blood pressure eased for a few moments. We saw wildlife, including a peregrine falcon, other birds and of course, many alligators, either resting on the grass or swimming off to do whatever it is they do. The guides I think know pretty much where to find the alligators, some of which have names. River of Grass is one of the first swamp tours west of Miami off of highway 41 past the casino. The boats take you pretty far into the Everglades where you don't see or hear any civilization, only the quiet rustle of the grass, i.e. when the engines are not powering the boat thru the glades (why can't they make a quieter engine?).
