Rocky and Brian at the Waterford Mi branch, along with Scott and Rachel at the Milford Mi branch, were exceptional at helping with a fraud case which I had no idea how to handle. Their communication and advice was spot on and 24hrs later, my accounts are taken care of with no issues. Thank you so much! read more

This is not a safe or productive place for businesses. I decided to try Flagstar because I'd been using a large national bank and I thought I would have a better, smarter service experience with people who care a bit more. During my time banking with them, I found this to be true. But only of the workers inside the bank. I'm not sure what it is like to do personal banking with Flagstar, but if you use them as a business, they do not help you solve problems. They become the problem. My entire time with them, they were an adversary that harmed my business and drug me through months of delays, restrictions, "investigations", and account closures. -Their apps are slow, unsightly, and cumbersome to use -Their upper management is very slow to respond -Their back office is just as dark and destructive as any big national bank. -Their back office is lacking in reasoning and analysis skills Worst of all: This has been a bank hit bad by fraud and they react with the trauma of a wounded sparrow. Their "fraud management" team is a terrified, irrational panel of hammers desperately trying to make a nail of anything it finds, and with or without evidence they are eager to make a fraudster out of YOU- the customer. I trusted them with my banking in June and they held, froze, investigated, and delayed my money until my accounts were closed in September. There was never any fraud, never any complaints, and never any accusations. Nevertheless, they held my money hostage the entire time under the enduring assumption that I was a criminal. Meanwhile, they made it impossible for me to cover operating expenses. Perhaps if you are an individual who needs a place to deposit their paycheck and withdraw $20 from the ATM every so often, this may be a great place. The tellers were fantastic and welcoming and they remember who you are. I also loved the two bank managers I got to know during my time with them. Both of the managers were smart, capable, and able to understand by company and banking situation with minimal effort. Unfortunately, they are at the mercy of people above them in the company and below them in intellect and compassion. If you are a business, I would seriously think twice about trusting this bank. They are not a "small, local bank that will look you in the eye and work alongside with you to thrive". They are a hostile, destructive semi-national finance institution reeling in desperation and fear that you are lying in wait to defraud them. read more

Placed savings there, due to high yield at the time. They they lowered the yield to below what other places pay. Tried to do transfers out of the account and BIG HASSLE. Limits on this, limits on that, had to spend a long time talking to customer service to request and be "granted" special privileges to withdraw my own money. Finally, for the last amount, they would NOT allow the withdrawl, and I was simply forced to wait another 17 days to access the funds. If you have a lot of time to waste and don't mind a bank holding up your funds and don't mind getting a lower interest rate than other places pay, this could work out for you. read more

They used to provide good interest rates and no fees online banking. Then I'm suddenly hit with a fee on my checking account (which I never needed or used). They want $5 now. I checked my online messages and saw nothing notifying me of a change. Online chat supported refused to refund the fee. I'm done with them and would recommend others choose better online banks. read more

Horrible customer service. Different answers from everyone I have spoken to, when they respond at all. Trying to sort out my deceased father's accounts... I am his executor. Even when you send them required paperwork, it sits on someone's desk for weeks without being processed. read more

This has to be the worst bank I have ever dealt with in 40+ years! Please look at the other reviews for this bank, don't take my word for it. I have been trying to get my 1098 for over a month, but this task seems too much for this bank. Getting someone on the phone seems to take an act of God! No one answers the phone and customer service never helps. Be aware of this bank and RUN AWAY! read more

Home Equity line of credit attempt. Horrible experience! I was strung along for a month being told I was good for my loan to be approved. Told I needed to upload more and more and more documents. I had me and my wife's CREDIT RAN 3 TIMES!! They got the loan amount wrong from the beginning. I told the Senior loan officer and the loan processor multiple times that the loan amount was wrong and it needed to be increased. Each time they told me it was increased and I was still good for approval. I was approved for a final signing twice for the wrong amount!! When they finally had the correct amount fixed they denied the loan based on DTI. I went to another bank that had pre approved me for my loan amount and I was closed in less than 2 weeks. The only reason I was trying to finish the loan process with Flagstar was due to them offering a special lower rate for 6 months. It was not worth the headache and multiple hits to my credit!! read more

Flagstar sold my mortgage to another lending company in the middle of the year. I have called several times to receive my 1099 for tax purposes and no one could find the document or led me in the right direction...Customer service gave me other numbers to call and those phone tree options did not recognize my account, loan or SS# and would not let me speak to anyone... so I was right back where I started with trying to speak to customer service that had no information. I would not recommend Flagstar or ever use them for my home loan again. read more

After a loved one passed away I have been trying to deal with this bank where they had accounts and it has been a nightmare. I sent the required paperwork to the address they told me and was told they "did not receive it" despite the tracking from the USPS stating it was delivered. Customer service people and supervisors will lie, are unhelpful, rude, and completely unapologetic for their terrible behavior. I wouldn't do business with this bank if you paid me! read more

My Mom called 4x and each time the customer service rep was unable to help including a supervisor. Three times they dropped the call.

My local branch is friendly. Calling Customer Service is a disaster. The useful prompts are listed at the end of very long lists of very specific problems. Hint... press 0 to get to a person and skip all the junk. Even then, the basic customer service couldn't even repeat the issue I was having back to me after I told her. When I asked if there was someone else I could talk to I was again given the run around. My request was ignored and I was told I need to verify my account. We all know when you get a new person you have to verify all the same information you've already entered and already repeated to the first person. So I verify all the information and then customer service states she needs to text me. I said no. She said that was the end of the call then. I said "because I don't want a text?" Then she stated they could manually verify me and asked for my birthday. The story goes on but suffice to say, avoid Flagstar customer service at all costs. It wasn't like this before they merged with another larger bank. read more

There policies are totally flawed, outdated, they are designed to scare the consumer away, which they do quite successfully. Flagstar continued for a year and a half to withhold the incorrect escrow amount. Then at the end of 2024 notified us that we had a 25K shortfall in our escrow and doubled our house payment per month! Terrible management unable to speak to anyone. Had to contact a loan officer to get a generic email to message. We were told they would respond with in 24 hours. We have waited 5 days to get a response via email and they don't even sign their name to the emails only their initials so you don't even know who you are corresponding with. Our loan was sold to Mr. Cooper who has provided excellent customer service trying to help us sort through this. I see why Flagstar no longer has a mortgage department. Look up their fine for falsifying a cyber attack. They had to pay 3.5 M for that "misleading' event! UNETHICAL company! read more

ZERO stars if allowed!! Flagstar's Mobile Banking Division is easily he WORST I've ever dealt with. Constant app crashing, numerous system 'outages', customer service hours are a joke, as if NOBODY has banking issues after 9pm??? Been with Flagstar for over a year now after our loan got sold to them. We ran into problems with trying to cover our mortgage after two deaths in the family and my wife being laid off. Kept up payments as best we could for six months until I finally fell behind in one. Went to their mortgage relief and applied for hardship, explaining the situation. Took nearly two months before they were able to "review" the hardship. Furthermore, ended up getting denied in every facet because we had "continuous income", despite the income being nil due to wife's job situation. Despite losing more than half of our income we were trying to keep up with payments, however that inferred that we were able to make all payments on time, ergo no assistance was needed. We filed all our banking documents, our debts, and even showed how we had tapped into our savings to make payments until the savings was gone, but it wasn't enough. Honestly, I don't think getting denied would've been as bad as it was if it wasn't for the fact that the first thing they offered after this two month evaluation was to simply go ahead and foreclose on us or perhaps even do a short sale, making us lose our house either way. Funny enough, they provided links on their mortgage relief page for other options, and one of the links literally lead right back to Flagstar as an option to assist with relief... Not customer oriented at all. All they care to do is get payments or simply take your house from you, no matter the situation. We're going to refinance, even if the rate is higher to get away from them, especially since they've done nothing but push for foreclosure on our house after we asked them for help or ideas or anything at all when we were to miss our first payment and only payment. read more

Never bank with them. I am a college student and I haven't had to do anything terribly difficult financially yet. Flagstar is a joke. Most mortgage companies I have worked with before will typically pay for supplemental taxes when you are a new homeowner. Not Flagstar. They lowered my mortgage because there was additional funds for supplemental taxes. What happens next year I do not have enough money in my escrow account? Their customer service was not understanding when I explained that my taxes would be much higher and I would need to pay out of pocket. Their solution was for me to pay additional each month on their portal. They also won't allow for my monthly payment to auto-pay additional money for the escrow account. If you're a new homebuyer and don't notice this, you can easily get in some big financial trouble. Flagstar, do better. read more

Horrible company! As soon as I can move my mortgage I will. Will not follow customer's direction, and do not believe them when they say they will do something. Asked them to hold off paying the renewal hazard policy, and they agreed, and asked me to be sure to call them back before the policy expires with the new policy. I was shopping for a new hazard policy. Despite telling me they will hold off, they did not, and when I called them on that, they simply apologized, and asked if there was anything else I needed! Beware of this bank's outdated and inconvenient policies! I opened a 5-month CD in October 2024, and the funds were electronically transferred from my bank to fund the account. However, when the CD matured in January 2025, I requested the funds be returned the same way they were withdrawn--electronically. Shockingly, the bank refused and insisted on sending a check via USPS, despite this being a substantial sum of money. I spoke with Olga and her manager, Thea, on 1/30/25, but received no resolution. When I called back, customer service representative Laura at least provided an alternative: I could request overnight delivery via UPS or FedEx at my expense. However, even this option required an approval process that would take several days--though I was assured it would fall within the 10-day grace period, avoiding penalties. Even worse, I was told I could pick up the check in person at my "local" branch. The problem? I live in Chicago, and the nearest branch is in La Porte, Indiana--a 1.5-hour drive each way! I have opened numerous online CDs with other banks, and this is the first time my funds weren't returned electronically. The lack of flexibility and outdated policies make this an awful banking experience. Proceed with caution! read more

Garbage company. My mortgage was bought by these clowns and it was a nonstop PITA. I had to constantly watch them so that they wouldn't overcharge me. Every single year I had to renew flood insurance with them because the HOA covered it and I didn't have it on hand. So every year they placed flood insurance for me and then sent me some letter about it and I got charged a bunch of extra money on my monthly payment to cover the new escrow cost. Every year I had to manually mail and update the flood insurance with them through some sketchy 3rd party website, "ihaveinsurance.com" which was dumb and sounded super fake. I had to pay extra for escrow and they didn't refund it until the end of the year. So they basically kept hundreds of dollars interest free because they made a mistake and/or couldn't figure out that the insurance renewed. (more likely case was they're crooks who want to borrow free money). Nothing they have supports budget apps like Mint or Monarch, which I like to use because their connection to the app's account would constantly break and I had to manually fix it every few months in order to get updated payment and balance information. They don't have any redeeming qualities and they're some sketchy fly by night operation that is just out to weasel money out of people. read more

Complaint Details Flagstar (aka Lakeview), found a shortage in my escrow (of which they never explained) but I am guessing is due to property tax increases. They recalculated my payment to be $400 more a month. This is after a 20% increase in insurance due to Floridas weather. When I asked for help with this they said "the investor will not allow spreading payments over more than 24 months"- a mortgage company can't spread out payments for more than 24 months? Not only is that asinine, it is a complete nightmare, $400 a month?! A 15% increase in mortgage payment, during a recession! On top of this after being transferred between the escrow and collections department for days, the finally say there "nothing they can do, sorry". It's truly unbelievable I could lose my house because my mortgage company sold my debt to a bunch of crooks! As noted by the business, the shortage is $2,624.66 which is supposedly spread over 24 months, and resulted in my mortgage payment being $2,924.76. However, my mortgage payment was originally $2,629.55. $2,624 divided by 24 is $109, this plus $2,629.55 is $2,738.55, NOT $2,900 or $3,000. Put another way, $2,924-$2,629=$295.00, this spread over 24 months would be $7,080. read more

Keith ghosted me after running my credit for a mortgage. No reason for this behavior and very good communication in the beginning.

The mortgage services were fairly well. My rating is influenced by their poor performance when it came to Insurance claim check endorsement. They failed to endorse it in-time. I tried eight times to open an account with Flagstar. In the process, the site froze, at the same location every time. I contacted the bank and talked to an agent to determine if any of the accounts had gone through. He said "No." He wanted me to go through setting up an account with him on the phone. I did. The site froze at the same location, again. I decided if they had glitches in the set up process, where else were there glitches and decided to NOT open an account. Several days later, I receive THREE email congratulating me on opening accounts. THREE when I did not even complete the process for one! I called and talked to a rep. She said she would write up a case and have my money refunded. Nothing happened. I called the bank again the next day. Same response. She would follow up and have the bank refund my money. Nothing happened. I called again today. They can't refund me the money. I have to request the accounts be closed and pay a penalty for early closure! They can decide if they want to close my account or not! If they decide to close the account, I will be charged an early termination fee. They steal my money, then I have to pay to get it back! read more

The people working at this bank branch seem quite amateurish, and I believe they need further training, not only in business details but also in their approach to work. I am hesitant to refer to them as bankers because, in my opinion, the staff at Flagstar Bank, 75-44 Main St., NY 11367, can be characterized as arbitrary, arrogant, self-righteous, and unprofessional. Please, employees of this branch, take your work seriously, treat your customers with dignity (even potential ones), and elevate your professional standards. The business terms listed on your official website are clear, concise, and readily comprehensible; why then do you misinterpret them and fail to implement them accordingly? Despite highlighting your error in person, you continue to flaunt your ignorance. However, for the same transaction on the same day, your colleagues at the Flagstar Bank Fresh Meadow branch adhered strictly to the official business terms and completed it perfectly. Unfortunately, Flagstar Bank, I was unaware that your business standards were as variable as the weather. In any case, I feel those at 75-44 Main St. might not be deserving of their monthly salary checks due to what I perceive as incompetence and a lackadaisical attitude towards their work. Be aware, other banks in Kew Garden Hills are taking note of your performance. Ultimately, I want to emphasize that this review is based on a true event specific to my experience. In the end, my transaction was successfully completed at the Flagstar Bank 188 Street Fresh Meadow Branch. The whole process was smooth, and the service experience was very satisfactory. Observing the branch manager, supervisor, and banker, it was apparent they all demonstrated exceptionally high business acumen. As a professional, I have great admiration for and commend their professionalism. It is surprising that these two groups of employees work for the same bank. In conclusion, it is not Flagstar Bank in its entirety that is unreliable, but the employees at the Kew Gardens Hills branch that cause frustration. I personally suggest avoiding the Flagstar Bank Kew Gardens Hills Branch and strongly recommend visiting the Flagstar Bank 188 Street Fresh Meadow Branch for your banking needs. read more
