We ate here recently with high hopes based on word of mouth reviews from friends in town…read more The people who work here are very friendly, and the atmosphere is good. The focaccia bread is delicious. The wait for food is agonizingly long. Over 2 hours in total. We received our food and it really wasn't great. The steak was cold and the fries were soggy. The pasta I tried was very acidic and was not what I'd consider "au poivre". There were no green peppercorns in the sauce or anywhere on the plate. The restaurant was very busy so I can attribute some of the wait and inaccuracy to that, but we waited a long time for drinks as well. I really wanted to like this place, but it just didn't cut it for us.

Surprisingly disappointing after buying into all the hype as seen on their facebook posts. The…read moreappetizers we ordered were the only highlight of the evening unfortunately. Setting and ambiance are nice and service was on par as well but the food just erased all that with its underwhelming performance. I ordered the beef ribs. They were overcooked and surprisingly had hardly any meat on them at all. If the taste had made up for it, it's something I could have overlooked but even the taste was not good. It tasted like someone had literally thrown them into a fire-pit with no seasoning. My brother in law ordered the ribeye. He ordered his med rare. It came out medium well. Asked for a replacement. New one came out rare when he cut into it. Sent it back to add some char to it. Came out again and was acceptable but no seasoning and very bland. We really looked forward to this place but unfortunately it did not deliver. Maybe it will get better after a few tweaks.

After combing various cookie blogs for…read moretips and tricks, most of them suggested getting supplies from Karen's Cookies so off I went (via the web). They have everything you could ever want to make & decorate cookies (and other baked goods). Karen and Mike are VERY nice people and oh so helpful. Yesterday when I tried to pay for an order via PayPal, I couldn't continue. I emailed Mike and he set up a payment request through PayPal and I was able to complete my payment. Then less than an hour later, I got an email that my order shipped! You might find (ahem) other companies who have cheaper cookie cutters (you know who you are) but they get you back with the shipping. Here are some helpful tips in case you are about to start cookie-ing... * Use CK brand meringue powder, the Wilton brand has a yucky taste. * Americolor brand gel pastes make more vibrant colors so go with that brand. * To dry your cookie cutters, put them back on a clean baking sheet after washing them and let the cooled-off oven dry them for you. No spots and no rust! * Besides the awesome information on Karen's site, Google these cookie blogs for some inspiration and ideas... sweetsugarbelle, sweetopia, lilaloa and thebearfootbaker. You'll find a ton of helpful information.

I had heard good things about this store so we finally decided to take the family for some treats…read more Boy am I glad we went here. First of all we were greeted by a friendly young saleslady, who was very patient with us while we discussed our options and tasted ice cream samples. We decided there were too many delicious choices to just get one dessert a piece. We picked out six cupcakes. Two S'mores, Salted Caramel, Red Velvet, chocolate raspberry cheesecake, and a brownie cupcake. We also got some German chocolate ice cream, and a sugar cookie with toffee bits on top. We haven't eaten everything yet.... but let me tell you what we did have was amazing!!! Ice cream was creamy, strong chocolate flavor, with pieces of coconut and cake pieces. Yum! Sugar cookie had a buttery flavor, crisp on the edges, but soft and chewy in the middle. Frosting was a vanilla buttercream that wasn't cloyingly sweet, something some places fail at. The chocolate raspberry cheesecake cupcake was pure bliss. A fantastic soft texture, not at all like a muffin in density, but it didn't totally fall apart either. The chocolate was a nice milk chocolate and then it hits you with the raspberry filling, just right. The cream cheese frosting on top put it over the edge. Delicious!!! Every bite was on point. The second cupcake we tried was the brownie one. That one was very sweet, I would even say a little too sweet with the frosting. It was much more dense, probably because it was part brownie. It was not our favorite of the two cupcakes we tried, however our daughter thought it was above and beyond the best cupcake she tried. So maybe if you're really into sweet that's the cupcake for you. The other three cupcakes we have yet to enjoy, but based on everything else we tasted I have a feeling they are going to taste phenomenal. If you're in Idaho Falls looking to get your sugar fix, go here. It's worth every calorie.

Okay, I know this is not the rating everybody hopes to get. This could just be that it is not my…read moretype of establishment. I don't typically go to these treats-only shops. But here goes. What I got was a snickerdoodle and a macaroon. Now, I've had snickerdoodles, and they have had a menagerie of flavors all blended into one. This snickerdoodle tasted like a brown sugar cookie. It just was not a snickerdoodle. That being said, it was a good sugar cookie lol. I didn't know what to expect with the macaroon. I am used to chewy, gooey coconut macaroons, but these look nothing like that. I knew I wasn't getting what I would expect, but they were strange; they broke in my mouth like a piece of plastic with a slight bit of flavor--I didn't like them. I tried a bite of the cupcake from the person who was with me. It was actually pretty good, but I'm not a big icing person, and the icing was the epitome of what I don't like--too sugary sweet. All this being said, I would take someone back for a cupcake just as an inexpensive treat, but I would have to go elsewhere for my coffee. After telling me she uses four shots in a drink and that she liked her coffee strong, I went with that advice. The coffee/espresso red eye I ended up with was weak. Well, I guess my strong is much stronger than hers. The other person I was with didn't enjoy the coffee experience either. So if we were to go back, we would definitely go to a different place to get coffee. Geez, I don't know, I didn't set out to say such things about this place, but... it's not easy being a small business owner. I know that, but honesty needs to prevail. The service was not bad; she's an owner-operator, and she tried to be very engaging. To me, she seemed a little phoney, or forced. Pleasant enough for sure, but she did seem to me a little pushy. She asked for feedback, wondering how we enjoyed our food. When I told her I didn't like the macaroons and that they just weren't what I was used to, I could tell she didn't receive it well. The whole time eating this strange-to-me food and not enjoying my coffee, the surroundings were just very void of comfort. It's not a relaxing, comfortable atmosphere. It is to sit there under bright lights, with bright attitude and high energy, to eat your treats and be on your way.

So first you gotta know this; I've always liked going out to eat as my entertainment highlight--and…read moreI'm no spring chicken. So I've had my share of pastries, breads, quiche, etc.. and well, they ain't my favorite. I looove coffee, everything is better with it! (Ok, milk and doughnuts rock too--but my coffee needs to be nearby to keep me in the right head-space.) So anyway, Deborah MADE me go to megpies yesterday. Thankyou Deborah!!!! It's in that cute little diamond in the rough, house/ business building on 1st street, just west of Holmes before Yellowstone. That building has had a history of failed businesses, probably because the parking situation is a little rough--Chapolera Coffee used to be there. So, you might get one of the limited park spots right out front on busy, narrow, first street. You might have to park across the street in the small, but free parking lot (usually plenty of spaces available), and walk across busy first street. You might have to walk up some balustrade stairs, to cross the quaint, and porch swing type nostalgic patio (no porch swing, just a vibe), with patio seating, before getting to the entrance. You might have to sit at one of the few inside tables, and wait your turn to order. But wait!--to leave would be a mistake. Though we didn't get to meet Meg, who I understand is a terrific person, so is the help who was there the day we went. There was three of us, and we'd never been. I was dead set on just getting coffee. But the perfect little displays of croissants and quiche just looked so tempting. The quiche I've had from other places in the past have been small, round, dry, little flavorless bites. But the Spinach Swiss & Bacon Quiche at Megs was sitting right there--rudely screaming at me, EAT ME!! So, as you can see, I had no choice. The croissants on display were Pistachio Cream, and they just looked, flakey, and filthy-- with a light bit of gooey pistachio cream sliced in, and a messy dark choclate drizzle scribbled across the top. So, as you can see, I had to teach this thing some manners. Ok all jokes aside, cuz coffee is serious business! If you can't do that right, everything else has got to be outstanding to bring me back. I don't do coffee drinks, mine is lighly sweetened coffee (preferably dark roast) with a shot of espresso, no creams, no flavors--no disquises. We will be going back to Megs!! The quiche was oustanding, flavorful and moist, without diluting the egg flavor, miraculous! That Pistachio Croissant, well lets just say, it changed me. I'm filthy now too, and lovin it!! The Coffee... Was really good !! I'm a rough customer when it comes to my coffee. I'm not gonna lie, if I were going to combine three different eateries to make my perfect breakfast, Megpies would definitely be one, but I would get my coffee at another local place.. sorry...it was more than good--enough. So, good coffee, good espresso, GREAT FOOD!! CUTE COMFY VIBE!! I would walk farther than just across the street to get here, and, no spring chicken. Thank you for reading, you can thank me after you go here!
