I had the pleasure of having lunch at Fix Coffee the other day. Fix is located on one of the more attractive streets downtown and is super easy to find. Inside you will find a typical urban coffee shop. It has a fairly rustic interior with art on display from local artists. The floor definitely needs some repair, so this isn't going to be a five-star experience, but it's comfortable enough to enjoy a meal with a friend. I ordered the bacon and egg croissant and it was delicious. My chai latte was also one of the best I've ever had - considerably better than Starbucks. Clearly, the owners have put their greatest effort into the quality of their food and it shows. If I was rating this place on food alone it would be an easy five stars. The service was just ok. I was served by a teenaged boy who was diligent and civil, but nothing more. You can tell when someone is genuinely happy to serve you and who takes pride in their work. You can also tell if someone is just doing a job that they get paid to do. This is ultimately a weakness in management. You can use coercion to face an employee to be polite, but you will never get anything more. Instead, to get the best from your people, you need to lead by inspiration. To get service that comes from the heart, you need leadership that comes from the heart. read more

I didn't expect to find a place like this in Slave Lake. It's a healthy food, bakery café. Since this is a rainy day we left the trailer and drove into town to do lunch. Unfortunately we arrived at 12:00 noon so it was busy. Some tables we closed off for COVID-19 regulation compliance but there was still lots of room. Most meals seemed to be sandwiches and/ or soup. My wife ordered soup with a biscuit and I ordered an egg salad sandwich and coffee. You get to choose from a variety of bread types so I asked for multigrain. Everything was looking good until we started to eat. I found the bread for my sandwich to be dry. It's not easy to make a dry egg salad sandwich but they did. My coffee tasted fine but it could have been warmer. That's also what my wife said about the soup, "it could have been hotter". She said the flavour of the soup was good and liked the biscuit too. We sat by the door and noticed a constant stream of people coming in and getting take out so this place is popular. I wish I enjoyed my lunch more. With a little more attention to quality control I this this could be a great stop for lunch or a coffee & pie. The cheese cake looked decadent and delicious. Given the limited choices of places to eat in this town I can safely say that I would come back, luke-warm coffee and all. read more

Very good strong espresso, the sandwiches are absolutely amazing, I had a cheese bun as bread and it was very soft and moist. Went great with all the toppings and was so filling and yummy. Loved all of the local paintings for sale as well as the jewelry and other items. Would definitely return. read more

Great coffee shop, sandwiches and bakery. They roast their own meats and bake bread for the sandwiches. The chocolate cream pie had a homemade graham cracker crust, delicious. Really nice staff. read more
