Ordered a pizza for pick-up a.k.a. takeout, yes I was the delivery guy. It was Friday just after 6:00 PM, after a long day we decided someone else was doing the cooking. Large cheese, pepperoni, sausage and jalapeño pizza hand crafted, baked and stuffed into a corrugate box piping hot and ready to go, timing is everything when a pizza has to travel and my timing is usually impeccable. The pizza traveled well and was good to eat without an additional heat source - paper plates, a pop and dinner is served. This was my first pizza from Five Star, the box had me doing a double take when I read the top my eyes went directly to the words "Best Value" hey I'm not a pizza snob and I ain't pretentious but I've never been a fan of bargain pizza, now before I bit into the first slice I got an image in my head of the CEO in a fancy boardroom saying "we are going to serve some decent pizza at a great price " Yikes!!! Well to be honest it wasn't love at first bite, I think this pizza grew on me about halfway through the second slice as the endorphins kicked in from the heat of the Jalapeños I like hot and spicy and these peppers are the real deal and plentiful - note to self if you're not the holy crap these are hot type you may want to request light on the Jalapeños at least that what I'm thinking if there is a round two. There are so many options when it comes to pizza in the area that a pizza shop needs to really bring it when it come to quality ingredients and execution - nothing bad here by any means but it doesn't make my top five unfortunately. After seeing their past health code violations I should lower this to a 3. But whatever, I'd give 3.5 if I could. Why? Well, it's. Just "okay" pizza. It's price efficient to get the massive 40 something $ pizza to feed a party. But yeah, I remember the first time I had Five Star I absolutely loved it. But it's one of those pizza (food in general) that quickly gets tired really fast. This is likely just a "me" thing, but I know people who are tired of Five Star just from how often they have it. Which isn't necessary a bad thing or Five Stars fault. But after a couple times the flaws start to become more and more noticeable. The crust is acceptable, not great but far from bad. 3.5/5 The sauce is ehh interesting, I can't say if it's bad, or good, or some unique unexplainable answer. ?/5 The cheese is probably the weakest part. It's definitely "cheese" but something doesn't feel quite right about it. While Five Star is a chain, it certainly has a major Chain taste. If there's one major chain I could maybe compare at least the cheese to it would be Papa John's. 3/5 I'd say Papa John's is probably worse than Five Star, papa's John's doesn't taste like what "pizza" should taste like. I ordered a pizza yesterday to be delivered in Port Orange and somehow the driver ended up over in Daytona Beach so we never got our pizza. But today was another disappointment. More like one star pizza. Ive been here quite a few times and at first I'd get a very decent pizza for the money but last two times the pizza is nowhere close to what it use to be. Before the pizza had a very good amount of cheese and items and was enjoyable for a chain pizza shop but now it barely comes with enough cheese to cover the dough. The pizza had less of the items that come with it and since it had so little cheese the cheese and the items were pretty dry. I pulled the cheese back and hardly any sauce. Five Star Pizza did not disappoint! It was delivered quickly and it was still hot! This was my first time trying Five Star since I moved to South Daytona and it just might be my new local favorite! Often, you don't know whether to try these little pizza shops, because if they're not making good pizza, then they usually don't stay around long. I don't know how long this restaurant has been in business, but if they continue making fantastic pies like I ordered tonight, then they will hopefully be around for a long time! I also appreciated their attention to details and didn't forget any of my order. That's so frustrating when that happens. I asked for the thin crust and would highly recommend it! Their crust had a really nice flavor and my pie was perfectly baked. The toppings were also generous and I thought the price was reasonable considering how tasty it was. This is not about the food, but I was out front and watched their delivery guy deliver pizza across the street, and noticed when he pulled onto the driveway, he rolled down his window and tossed trash onto the driveway...then got out of the car, opened the back door to get the pizza and again, tossed trash on the driveway. I called to report him, took photos. IF the manager calls me back on Wednesday, I will email photos. The person who answered the phone knew who the driver was and was going to talk with him. We had a Supreme Pizza, lots of cheese and toppings. We also got a large extra cheese pizza, they did not skimp on the cheese and it was delicious. I like how they arent wings that look like they pumped with copious amounts of steroids. But for the size, i feel like they should be cheaper. The garlic rolls are awesome!!! They do not follow proper COVID precautions. NO one wears a mask, you can also see workers eating over the food in the back when you do carry out. Just a nasty place. First of all, I would like to point out that the pizza from this establishment is very good. I have been ordering from here since it first opened and have never had an issue until now. I had a delivery on Wednesday, September 12th and after I found a note taped to my door stating that next time I should leave a tip. I feel that tipping the delivery driver is optional and normally I do tip, however, there are days that I just don't have that extra to give. This action was extremely unprofessional and uncalled for and should result in the termination of this driver. This business has lost a customer. read more
