Thanks for letting me try an SE

Lemme start off and tell ya I still got Players' Anxiety in a guitar store after (almost) 20 years of playing. You just go blank. It's like when you're minding your business with an instrument and someone comes to you and says "play something". That's why you always remember your Oasis chords and bring a capo to a house party. I didn't feel any of that here though when I dropped in to spend some time with a Silver Sky SE. I was showed to a small amp room and even encouraged to crank up the volume for the test. I appreciated the friendly help and spent a good hour in the showroom. I will probably drop by again on my next annual PDX trip. (it's exp G7th capo time baybehhhh)

I've now bought two guitars from five star and have also paid for 3 guitars being set up. not only is the store fun to visit but the staff are friendly, informed, and also mellow. I love this store and they will continue to have me as a customer.

I had been shopping for 2 days for a new guitar. After a terrible Guitar Center experience I decided to visit these guys. I live in Vancouver so the store is out of the way, but it was well worth it. When I went in immediately I was greeted by staff. I didn't want to annoy the busy staff, but they were happy to give me recommendations based on my extremely specific needs. I told him what guitars I liked, what I didn't and he 3 different staff members all gave great recommendations. They even hooked me up to the amp I have at home so I can really experience how it sounds. Every guitar is setup by their luthier and you can definitely tell because each guitar plays as great as it can. They put up with my diva complaints, and let me test every aspect of the guitar I was interested. Provided me with a strap, some stands so I can compare multiple guitars and they very knowledgeable. When I chose the guitar they hooked me up with a cheap case (as per my request) and threw in a pair of strings, and the strap for free. My new guitar still plays great, looks awesome, and I will definitely be back in the future. Thanks to all the staff that helped me pick out my LTD! This is how business should be!

I purchased a 2002 '57 Les Paul Custom (reissue of course) from Five Star Guitars (via Reverb). Communication was excellent as I inquired if they could perform a little work on the guitar before sending it out to me. They were responsive, professional and extremely helpful. Shipping was very fast and the guitar was packed safely. I don't plan on buying too many more guitars but if I do have that GAS kick in I will definitely check these guys out again.

A new life!

Living up to their name! I took my 20+ year old run of the mill MIM Stratocaster in for an upgrade. Geoff and his team were amazing, they helped me fine tune my upgrade selections and turned my little Strat wannabe into a full-fledged modern day Pro Series beast. Shout out to Michael for keeping me posted on progress and last, but definitely not least, Ian (the luthier) for doing some amazing high quality work! Night and day results.

I was recently searching for a guitar repair shop to help properly set up my Fender EVH guitar's…read moreD-Tuna device (it was not working adequately and causing strings to go slightly out of tune). My first call was to 12th Fret on Hawthorne... they had done some fret work for me 20 years ago, and I was impressed with their service and capabilities. However, I didn't get a call back after leaving a voicemail with my service details. I called a few of the other "boutique" repair shops around town, and left voicemails... but again, no call back. I finally found a shop that picked up the phone, but when he said he had never heard of the D-Tuna device, I said never mind. Then I remembered local Tigard Music had a repair shop. I called and spoke with Mark, and felt really good about the conversation, and brought my guitar in. While my request was not a common service request, Mark did some research and came up with a solution that worked perfectly. He also addressed a fret issue for me, and did both services for a great price. He even gave me advice on some other minor fixes I could do myself without spending a lot of money. I was very impressed. I will definitely be bringing my guitars for repair/upgrades to Mark and Tigard Music in the future! P.S. While I am primarily a guitar player, I bought a ukulele from them recently, and the selection/prices were great! Aloha!

Evan helped me pick out a recorder, electric piano, and sheet music. Very sincere and most helpful. Can't decide if I want to rent or buy a flute and they have options for that when I'm ready. Most don't rent any longer. Must say this is my new favorite shopping experience! An exciting journey and first time in years my head hurt. I'm actually learning! Overall great experience - no pressure - and left with what I was hoping for!…read more I called ahead of time searching for a new acoustic Stratocaster and had a great experience. I own a traditional, American made solid body Strat that I've enjoyed playing for years, plus an amazing acoustic Martin guitar that I love playing unplugged. But I wanted something more versatile I could take with me to jam bands and sound like a solid body guitar when I wanted, but also a true acoustic when I wanted. Called around and Portland Music Company had what I was looking for. We may the trip in from McMinnville. The salesman (or manager?) remembered me from the phone call and had several choices set aside and acoustic amps set up. He helped me home in on what I wanted and added no pressure to purchase. I played several different acoustic Strats on several different amps for the better part of an hour. The salesman was super helpful answering all of my questions. I decided to go for it and still love this guitar today, more than a year later. (I wrote most of this review right after I purchased, but the review got stuck in draft status, so I'm just now posting).

I've never been so insulted. These clowns must have assumed they were stolen. "Where'd you get them? Why are you selling?..." Hey pal, I have multiple instruments and these were two I almost never play (as if it's any of their business). They claimed there were problems with both and weren't interested. Now, I have done business with them multiple times, but they can kiss this customer goodbye! I'm not a thief, but these guys are jerks. To prove these were from my personal collection, I've included a picture of my remaining guitars. I ended up gifting the guitars to my niece.
