Wonderful butchers…read more Notice that I didn't say "meat market." Sure, this place sells meat, but they also know how to cut meat per my order -- which we made from Texas weeks prior to Christmas. They also tied it very nicely, and the vacuum pack is clutch. The big order was a bone-in rib roast (six pounds), which will be our Christmas dinner. It's a beautiful roast ... probably Select Grade, since it was about $120. But there is plenty of fat in the cap. If this beauty doesn't taste worth a damn, it's on me. Notice that I rubbed it with dry rosemary, course black pepper, Kosher salt and lemon zest. It will sit in the fridge overnight and roast low and slow on Christmas Day. We also picked up bacon, breakfast sausage and Dearborn hot dogs (I'm a hot dog junkie). All of it was fresh and tasty, The service here is spot-on. Not only do they answer questions, but they also give you exactly what you order ... along with some advice. That's old-school, and it's too bad that there aren't more places like this anymore. I live in the Houston area, and we have markets such as this. But they are few and far between.

The jerky is not typical jerky that you get out of a plastic bag from the grocery store. This tastes extremely fresh and melts in your mouth with a sweet, moist, and caramelized flavor. For those familiar with Filipino tocino, it has a similar flavor profile, but is even more tender and fattier (who knew that could be possible vs. tocino). There are other jerky's and various meats, but this is what I come here for. Sold by weight. Rating: 5 crazy rich Europeans out of 5

The front entrance architecture is that of the 1800's with a classic red barn on the left and a historical false front building on the right. Upon entering you are greeted by a large inner room which is adjacent to the freezer and refrigerated areas. I wasn't going to by anything, but got a hankering for beef jerky, and of course then had vacuum sealed packages! They also carry chicken, beef, bison, and pork products. I also had a nice conversation with a bearded man about their coffee, which consists of a blend of beans from 3 different origins. I had a sample and although it was bold, there was also an acidic aftertaste. I did not care for it. I was reminded about Rudy's by my son who gets a lot of meat here for smoking in his smoker. I've been by twice and the first time was just so so. My problem was that I didn't order ahead.! The great thing about this place is they are busy! It's a popular place! There are guys in the back butchering and cutting up meat! It is pretty cool to watch! This is truly a homey place and I can see why my mom visited for her meat needs and she ordered ahead! When you walk in, you can tell there are a lot of regulars. People take numbers, get their meats, have conversations. A nice and welcoming vibe. I ordered an Easter Ham from David. He was great in explaining the difference between bone in, boneless and cooking differences. I did a boneless sliced ham and it was perfect for my own glaze. Everyone enjoyed and the ham itself was good. Not salty or fatty. I will definitely be back and if there is something specific I want, I will call ahead. They are really great and I highly recommend!
