Great salon and barber shop with a well-stocked vending machine!! Come hungry, leave happy while looking your best with your new do! ‍

Got my hair cut couple weeks ago now. And as soon as I got home I noticed what I had already expected. Terrible haircut. The man who cut my hair seemed more into his text or calls and watching the other barber across from him play madden. I travel for a living so I always use different shops unfortunately. This was the first time I ever had a haircut and the barber didn't use SCISSORS on the top part which is longer. TERRIBLE choppy and random short areas of hair. I'm not one to write reviews but this cuts bad ! If your cut or style requires scissors not just clippers, I suggest you go elsewhere! read more

Found this place on a whim and I'm so happy I did! My son loves his haircut. We are from Philly so it's been challenging find a new barber for my son. Kay Cuts was our Barber and he was friendly and did a great job! Will be our go to from now on read more

Walked in, sat down and watched as two other people clearly(who were clearly there after me) got haircuts before me.

I should preface this by saying that I have had at LEAST 30+ barbers over the years. Why, you may ask? Simple. They keep jackin my head up!!!!! I go to a barber and inform them that I am tender headed - my skin gets irritated VERY easily. They all nod 'okay' or 'I gotchu'... and they proceed to have me walkin out of their chair lookin like I just had a botched lobotomy (bleeding/ clots all across the 'line up' areas; red/ raw neck napes; and ingrown hairs ALWAYS to follow). There's always ONE exception once every blue moon that does it just right and I am their client 'for LIFE' or so I keep tellin myself. The problem then becomes, that barber developing an 'air of arrogance' and they no longer value my [or any other client's] time. How could i say that, you ask? Well, lemme tell ya: They talk on the phone; chit chat w/ every tom, dick & harry that walks up in there; go SHOPPING from the local booster --- all while I'm in the chair. That affects their mood. They rush, they slice me, they 'inform me' that they are increasing prices; that they want me to come to THEIR home and still charge me the SAME friggin amount?!?!? GTFOH!!!!!! Our relationship is usually severed sometime soon, thereafter. I digress... So, I flew into Charlotte recently for a very impromptu meeting. I landed and I asked for a recommendation from someone in the area. I was referred to 'Five Star Barber Salon'. When I walked in, it was ur typical shop. Neat, clean, guys shootin tha Sh*t... ya know, normal barber shop banter. I noticed the chairs all had someone in them except one chair and the barber was chillin in the waiting area (now, you know, like I know, that USUALLY means that this is the barber that normally jacks up folks' heads. NEVER a good sign... until NOW). He asks if I need a cut. With 'shear' (like how I did that, right there...? lol) trepidation, I respond, 'yeah. I guess so' (nervous as hell). Normally, in a new shop, I like to sit and watch for a minute - then choose the barber if it's a 'blind walk-in'. I never got that chance here ... Ahhhhh well, here we go. **praying** Please don't jack my head up ... PLEASE DON'T JACK MY DAYUM HEAD UP!!!! Dude sits me down and asks what I want. [temple taper/ shave down the hair to bring the waves back]. "No problem" I'm told... Uh hunh... we'll see.... He introduces himself. Jacques proceeds to give me one the BEST haircuts I received in the past year!!!! He cut with the grain (not against, cutting out the wave pattern). My hair has a tendency to be a bit wild [i.e. - it grows in various directions and in swirls]. It's actually kinda hard to cut properly. He pointed out the different directions and proceeded to continually change his cutting directions ... PERFECT!!!!!!! I stood up and when i looked in the mirror. I was like HOT DAYUM!!!! I'm a sexy muhhh fuhhhh today!!!! Needless to say, when in Charlotte again, I'm going to see 'Jacques' (pronounced 'Ja-kwez') to get me another flawless cut!!!! KUDOS!!!! read more

Chris and his staff of independent barbers always does a great job with mine and my husband's beards. He was referred to us by our nephew who has been seeing Chris since he was a little boy. Nephew now lives in Columbia and refuses to let anyone down there cut his hair. He makes the drive to see Chris. That says a lot. read more

Chris aka Mr. Five Star gave me one of my best haircuts recently. I had an interview yesterday and received lots of complements from other employees. Being that I'm from NYC, it's hard to find a decent barber that knows how to cut and line up that goes with your face etc. If you're new to Charlotte, definitely hit them up. I see other barbers there that do their thing consistently as well! read more

I waited 15 minutes to get my 2 years old hair cut. Wasn't greeted with good manner from the beginning so I should have left. The guy in the first chair finished and two people walk in after me he chose one of them instead of my son. If your a woman but dressed appealing you'll be noticed. read more

I'm from Northern VA and needed a haircut ASAP because I was attending a wedding. I would've normally gotten a haircut from my normal barber, but I was in a hurry to leave town. When I get there, I didn't know who was good enough near the hotel at which I was staying, especially on Good Friday. I called around to see who was open and decided to take a chance with these fellas. I was impressed! They did an awesome job, took their time, and were reasonably priced. I don't remember who cut my hair, but they had a sizeable wait time which told me they were pretty good. By the time he was done with my hair, I was looking good enough to be the groom! I would definitely recommend this place for anyone looking to find a barber and isn't from the area, or who isn't satisfied with their current barber. If I ever came back to Charlotte, this will be my barber of choice. read more

Nice shop with great barbers. Passing through town for work and needed a cut, read reviews and am glad I went here! Russo did an excellent job cutting hair and shaping my beard!! Ask for him. Five Star Barber Salon has one of the best barbers my son has ever been to. My son actually looked forward to getting his hair cut there. I highly recommend this barber! read more

5 Stars for Chris. I've been going to Chris for about the last 2 1/2 - 3 years. I stumbled across him after finding this spot on Yelp one day. I was about to walk in and saw a guy standing outside with a fresh cut. I asked him which barber cut him up...after he said Chris, he has been the only one to cut my hair. I hate walking in to a shop and having to sit there and wait for 2-3 people to get their cut before me so Chris taking appointments was right up my alley. I'm able to schedule my appointment during my lunch break and not miss a beat. It's always great conversation that doesn't slow down the haircut. My problem with barbers in the past is after they cut my hair for a while and we get pretty cool then the quality of the cut starts to get suspect and appointments start to not matter as much and they end up being late. I've never had that problem with Chris. Even so much that he now cuts my toddler hair as well. I would definitely recommend Chris. read more

Five Star Barber Salon - Barbers Near Me - Charlotte, North Carolina

Regular barber was booked so I called this one on a whim on a SATURDAY morning. I've passed by it for years. Phone was answered within 2 rings and greeting was pleasant. Inquired if they accepted walk-ins. Gentleman on the phone said "Yes, Derrick can take care of you." Walked in, Derrick greeted us as soon as we walked in. 25'ish minutes later, Derrick asked if I was pleased. VERY! My son walked out loving his fly cut. We have a new barber! read more

Great owner and great environment to be around. Barber Ronnie not so much. He had me set an appointment then had to wait for a hour just for service once I got there. What's the point of an appointment? Also very rude and about the entire situation. Will never go back because of him. read more

Great shop. Chris cut my hair. In and out quickly and a great cut. Definitely my new barber!

James Mcdonald charged me an extra $10. It was 25 for the haircut, but he told me it was 35 just for a short trim. I thought because of covid, the rates went up but the board still said 25 which i did not realized and paid the barber. But v. Unprofessional of him, that he never told me the correct rates. read more

I've taken my son and brother here on a couple of occasions, there's never been a wait. Competitively priced. Its a barbershop that also has a beauty salon in the back. Could use some renovation i.e. sitting area, sinking floor..but does not deter from the good work the barbers do.. read more

I was a little nervous for my husband and 2 boys at first, but the atmosphere was nice. I like that they played music and had football on the tv. It looks like all of the barbers are good from what I saw. The barber who cut my husband and boys hair name was Curtis. Oh, there was a beauty shop on the back end too. read more

If I could give these guys 20 stars, I would gladly do it. My Barber Chris (the owner) makes me look like I should be in a hair magazine as a model everytime I go there. Never had a bad experience.
