This type of chiro clinic is hit or miss. It's a national chain. My first experience didn't leave…read moreme feeling like I would get the type of treatment that was hoping for. So I didn't go back and chose instead a private clinic with a long history. In the end it was the best option. Most recently I found myself in need of an adjustment badly and saw that there was a Joint here in Athens. I was hesitant but based on the costs of local private clinics I decided to give it a try. My first visit was not the best experience either which left me feeling like I might've made a mistake. But considering the method of my injury and intensity of my pain I recognized that this might take some time to feel improvement. So I went back 3 days after my initial visit. This time was with a different practitioner. I am glad I gave it another shot bc this time I was interviewed a little more relevantly which allowed him to understand more clearly about what I was dealing with anatomically. When I left I felt less pain than walking in. And that's a major factor in my decision to return or not. The initial visit left me with no improvement whatsoever. So I look forward to going back in a few days to continue therapy and hopefully see even more improvement. Chiropractic work isn't a one and done modality. Depending on your issue it may take some time and repeat visits in order to correct the misalignment. So I bought a monthly "pass" which gives me 4 free visits per month and additional visits cost just $10 vs close to $40 I think is what I was told. I can cancel when I feel better and my stability and strength returns to normal-ish. Also I work in the medical field so I hear all the negative opinions on chiropractic therapy. It has its benefits and its place. Personally I recommend it to anyone with acute or chronic lower back problems. There is more than likely a misalignment causing the pain. Try to find someone with an in office Xray so that there is first hand information on your issue. But if you have chronic issues that you're familiar with and can clearly convey then it's a good resource.

I was initially happy with my visit. I found out about the meaning of the phrase you don't know…read morewhat you don't know. I was in a auto accident and went to Dr. Mark Anthony for treatment. He showed me my x-ray and it showed my spine was out of alignment. What he then proceeded to tell me was that I was born with one leg shorter than the other. He showed a line that went across the x-ray film showing my hip and the legs area. I thought that it was wrong, but he is the Doctor so I thought. I trusted him and when he was able to relieve some of the pain and discomfort that I was feeling I didn't give it a second thought. He gave me a lift to put in my shoe because of his diagnosis of one leg being shorter than the other. I then walked around like that for a year. Then after I moved from Athens and went to see another Chiropractor still experiencing pain. I told him what Dr. Anthony told me and I could see the shock on his face, though he tried not to show it. I went to see him regularly for several months and the pain did go away. He showed me x-rays later and my spine was in alignment and, no I did not have one leg shorter than the other and getting rid of the lift in my shoe helped get me straightened up. I looked back on the visit and how friendly Dr. Anthony was I wouldn't have imagined he would have set out to harm me. I now wonder if his encouraging me to take potassium supplement instead of my blood pressure medicine advised with good will intentions or not.

My first chiropractor always said, "people would care more about their spine if they could see it as well as they can see their teeth." After a quick chat with Dr. Anthony, I found that he was on the same page, and I instantly felt at home. My spine looks like the front end of a Pinto in a demolition derby, hence I make sure it stays in tip-top shape. Now, I usually get adjusted in Atlanta (grad school is a pain in the neck- literally), but being a UGA alum, I found myself in Athens needing care. I visited a couple others, and my picky spine chose to see Dr. Anthony. His staff is very friendly, and they are VERY efficient! Nothing grinds my gears like showing up in a Doctor's office and they act as if they couldn't care less if you're there. Another thing that I appreciate is that his office looks professional- if you drive around any city, you'll quickly notice that a lot of chiropractors just throw up their office in any shanty that has four walls... That said, his office is spacious and it doesn't feel like you're in a closet while you're getting adjusted. He also does traction, which is a huge plus for me.
