A friend suggested this trip because she is searching for inexpensive, antique looking jewelry to incorporate into her wedding theme. I did some research and suggested the flea market in Lawrence, since it is open Saturdays as well as Sundays. We met for lunch in Methuen, which is a bit of a drive for each of us, and then made our way to Lawrence. The flea market building was relatively easy to find based on the pictures posted on their website. There was a dollar entrance fee, which I sincerely hope goes toward a worthy case. The flea market was a huge disappointment and not at all what we expected. Aside from a handful of unique booths (if you consider incense and beanie babies unique), the whole building was covered in knockoff purses, cheap jewelry, and random electronic devices. Not sure who thought a sane person would pay $2 for a VHS tape, but those items were alive and well. We walked around every booth at least twice, but left empty handed. Even if I wanted to buy a fake Coach wallet for $5, how could anyone deal with an inside zipper that doesn't open or close?! I hope to see what else the New England flea market scene has to offer. For someone who drove out of their way, the Lawrence flea market was a waste of time. Hopefully there are better days ahead because it can be a great experience.
