I have never been to a less professional place for healthcare. I've had many bad experiences here over the years but there's not any other option near by. If you are giving birth run far far away. I was talked into doing a c-section they pushed it through the entire pregnancy when I expressed that I would rather do a VBAC but i was preeclamptic and caved. I went in for the surgery my husband wasn't allowed in until I was prepped which I'm assuming is pretty normal anywhere. But come to f ind out after all the chaos they allowed a student to do my epidural. When they administered the epidural i had the worst pain I've ever felt in my life down my entire left leg and in my foot. I sat in excruciating pain for 2 days before they finally gave me more than just ibuprofen and tylenol. I missed out on everything with my newborn son. Turns out I have nerve damage from the epidural I'm told it happens there's a 1 percent chance when you have an epidural(we wont' talk about all the people who have told me similar stories after all this happened). Came home after 4 days couldn't be left alone for the first month because i couldn't walk without help and the medication they finally got me on made me so drowsy I would fall asleep at the drop of a hat. My husband works nights so my mother ended up having to use all of her vacation time to stay with me and take care of the baby. Here we are seven months later i've had some improvement with pain but it's still there just somewhat controlled with medication. I've been through physical therapy i see the neurologist once a month but honestly there hasn't been any improvement in months. When i called administration about what happened they basically said sorry for your bad experience. Even though they allowed a student to practice on my without my permission. They could care less honestly not to mention all these follow up appointments and medications add up quickly and we were already on a fixed income. I came here against my better judgment because I didn't have much vacation time accrued at my job yet so going to columbia would make me miss out on a good chunk of pay that we really depend on. When a nurse is supposed to be coming out every Monday to check my elderly fathers vitals, sort his meds, and ensure that he is in reasonably good health, I expect that nurse to do more than knock and leave if no one answers the door quickly enough for them. I specifically had this conversation with one of the nurses just last week who has been out here several times after learning that one of the others had knocked and left without being heard, or at least claimed to have done so, and I told her that if the truck is in the driveway he is here, and if under those circumstances no one answers the door then they need to knock louder and longer because of his hearing problems, and that for what should be an obvious fact that if no one is answering the door it might be because he has fallen or is otherwise physically incapable of getting to it. She assured me that she would relay this to the other nurses who alternate with her on coming to my father's house. Clearly that was not done, or the other nurses simply didn't care, and she herself obviously did not since it is now Wednesday and after calling the hospital to find out why no nurse has been by yet this week, my father was informed that his case has been dropped due to failure to answer the door! I would think that any nurse with an ounce of consideration or compassion for an elderly veteran client on this VA program would show some genuine concern at the fact that no one answered the door rather than use it as an excuse to drop the client, and I'm utterly disgusted with the fact that the nurses Fitzgibbon Hospital have been sending do not think this way themselves, even when prompted to do so by family of the people they are supposed to be "caring for"! This is my fathers LIFE they are dealing with, not a pizza delivery!! read more

What a joy for my husband and I to bring all three of our children into the world at a place where people clearly care about their patients and love what they do! After giving birth to our daughter at Fitzgibbon, we had such excellent care and experience that my husband and I were eager to have our twins here as well. Megan Shepard, whom we have seen the most, has always been caring and reassuring as well as practical and honest, and we feel similarly about Dr. Kerns and know the other providers to be excellent, too! The nurses both at the Women's Clinic and labor and delivery at the hospital have also been caring, encouraging, and knowledgable. We have always felt like everyone has our best interests in mind! Finally, we are grateful for lactation consultants who are equally encouraging and passionate about supporting mothers! read more

I went into the ER this morning due to having trouble breathing. I have many health problems that can cause this. I was told to get tests run on my lungs. I was given no kind of breathing treatment for the trouble I'm having. Nothing! Was sent out the door for the second time in a month due to the same problem. From check-in to meeting with Dr. Uhriq and subsequent discharge to the laboratory,it was a informative and pleasant experience. I was treated with the utmost respect ,received pertinent instruction towards, insuring that my health care goals are being met. I have been to Fitzgibbon several times. One time with chest pain, the ER staff was excellent. Dr. Ellefsen and Dr. Ross, both orthopedic surgeons, are top notch. My wife has also had very good care from Dr. Song in the Women's Care clinic. My teenager really likes Dr. Sporleder for his care. read more
