All these beautiful, iconic lamps are made in the city by Bevolo, which is the oldest and largest manufacturer of these hand-riveted copper lanterns. The company was founded in 1945 by Andrew Bevolo and is still a family-owned business. The copper is mined locally, and each lamp is expertly crafted by hand. You can watch the coppersmiths at work at their showroom located at 318 Royal Street, which is also a museum. Even though the gas lamps are their most popular sellers, they also make chandeliers & sconces. A few years ago, I ordered two of the Original French Quarter lanterns for my home in Los Angeles. Unfortunately, due to earthquakes I wasn't able to install the gas version, so I had to get electric. I was able to find light bulbs that replicate a flickering flame. The salespeople, Kayla Bossi & Brittnee Ulmer were friendly and helpful. My lanterns were carefully packed to protect against damage during shipping. The quality of the craftsmanship is superb. I absolutely love them. They make me smile when I walk in my front door because they remind me of my beloved city, New Orleans, where my heart lives.

Not only did they have it for under $2, but I felt like I found a hidden gem in my neighborhood hiding in plain sight. It has all sorts of lighting fixtures and lighting supplies, but it also has home decor, gifts, candles, mirrors, and lots of cool things crammed in between. I had been thinking about replacing a hanging light in my kitchen. They have lots of catalogs full of even more options than their overstuffed showroom, and the staff was super nice and helpful (HEY Phyllis!!), showed us a some catalogs once we described what we were looking for and took the time to color copy each page of the things we were interested in so we could go home and make the final decision. We placed the order and one week later the fixture came in and now my new kitchen lamp is ready to be hung up. They have a much better selection than the usual home improvement store selection, plus great customer service, and I know where to go next time I need a fun gift, too!

Communication about delays was inconsistent, and responses felt dismissive when concerns were raised. Additionally, the fixtures appear to be sourced from third-party vendors rather than an exclusive in-house collection as implied. For the price point, I expected consistent quality, accurate delivery timelines, and better customer service. Unfortunately, this experience fell well short.

To make matters worse, the salesperson openly admitted that everything in the store is marked up at least 50% above retail value because, in their words, "tourists love to haggle." That tells you everything you need to know about how this business operates. This is a company that overcharges customers, does not honor agreed-upon prices, and cannot be trusted to follow through even after taking your money.
