I have been coming here for many years. It's a bit pricey compared to other gyms in and out of the area but you get your time. People are here for a lifestyle change, work out , biting into some calories without the typical distractions you find at those other local gyms. Daycare, trainers, etc. it's an excellent facility minus the pool and full court courts. It has what you need, weights and positive vibes. Fitness Incentive - Back door - Trainers Near Me - Babylon, New York

I just joined here because of the proximity and I'm tired of the PF/Blink places. I want to give more stars, but it doesn't really qualify for 4. Here it is: it is a very tiny gym in the heart of Babylon. If you are into yoga and classes (spin, kick boxing, dance jumping or whatever they do) it's probably perfect for you. But if you like to lift, build muscle, and like to workout in peace with your headphones or whatever, you really have to time it right because the gym gets real crowded, loud, and tight. The weight machines they have are of real good quality, but there's only one of each. There also aren't enough weight plates to go around for each machine, you need to borrow from others. The cable machines could use an update. All the attachments are kind of frayed and seem old. There are only a handful of treadmills and elliptical, but I have never seen them all full at once and they have a woodward(?) treadmill which is not common and is great. The dumbbell area needs to be moved to a diff location of the gym. It's one tiny 7-8' wide room that if there is more than one other person in there it is way too cramped and all the equipments gotta be 30 years old. If I go in and there's 3 people I leave and come back. Too much "excuse me, just cutting through, do you mind if I grab those" etc etc The room in the front when you walk in to the right is great. Plenty of pull up bars, kettle bells, punching bags etc etc. it's a great free workout room, but again, everything shows it's age. The down side to this room is that there is an employee room in the back so people are constantly walking through. The locker room is nice and clean and has a sauna. Now, the class workout rooms seem to be very popular and they are real loud. If you are in the gym and want to listen to a headphone you gotta really turn it up. There is one particular instructor that does a lot of hooting and hollering and it's just really annoying. Unfortunately there are no doors to the main room so whatever pop music they are blasting and screaming they are doing fills the whole place. Another complaint is the personal trainers. They don't really seem to notice other people working out and just come barge into your area whether or not you were there first. In addition, the one guy was taking up a few machines at once one day, I didn't notice and went to the empty bench and he was like "we're using that" from like 8' feet away. Not cool when there only one of each machine. Also, teach the new people they gotta adjust their workout if other people are there. One more thing, it seems to be the "cool, hip" Babylon place for people to stand and chat in the middle of the gym in groups before or after classes. There is a cafe area that they could use, but people here seem oblivious to people serious about getting a workout and just stand wherever and gossip. Lots of people walking around and weaving in between the machines to get to the classes. Because of all this, I've found that if I go between 11 and 2 any day, it's not that noisy or crowded and I can get a good workout in. Any other time though I just go to PF in West bab which is less crowded. Overall it's a good gym, if it were twice the size, had better acoustics, less people standing and chatting, it would be a 4 or 5. read more

Great gym! The instructors, trainers, staff, and owner are all friendly and welcoming. I have never had an issue trying to use equipment even though the gym is not huge like larger chain gyms. The equipment is clean and well maintained. The spa is also a great service with true professionals. The only thing for me is the locker rooms do not match the aesthetic of the rest of the gym, but I live close and shower at home anyway. read more

It's no wonder that this gym is consistently voted the best gym on L.I. I was growing more despondent each time I got on the treadmill or elliptical at my other gym. I didn't like the fact that they offered very little in the way of classes, and what classes they did offer were mediocre at best. After moving to the area, I decided to check out Fitness Incentive. They gave me a 2 week free trial, which I think is unprecedented - most gyms give you one day, maybe a three day pass at best. Of course, I signed up. They had (not sure if it is still going on) their anniversary sale going on - $55/month. This is if you agree to a 1 - year contract. Heck, I'll have my iPhone for twice as long as that, and this is for my health! You can also pay 3/month intervals, but it is in your wallets' best interest to do the 1 year. The only negative about this, is after the free trial, they didn't tell me that you have to pay three months upfront. However, I won't be charged again until May, so... I have never had a problem waiting for a machine here, which is good. But the REAL reason I joined this gym is for the classes. They offer EVERYTHING you could imagine. I have tried several already, my favorite being Zumba with Wil who is AMAZING. You will dance your butt off, literally and figuratively (hopefully more literally). The sculpting classes are also very good and I LOVE the bounce camp and pump and jump. You haven't lived until you have ran for 60 minutes on a mini trampoline (a rebounder) lifting weights. Quite frankly, I'm surprised I didn't trip and fall flat on my face the first time I tried this class. It will whoop you into shape, super challenging. They have a huge room where all of the cardio and sculpting classes are held, a spin room, and a room for the dance/yoga/pilates based classes. Also, there is another large room that is free to do whatever you want, with a punching bag, TRX bands, mats, pilates balls, ect. However, I have used the cardio room when it is empty in between classes with no issues. The staff and the instructors here are super friendly, the bathroom is clean and large with plenty of lockers (there are extra lockers next to the cardio room), however I think their scale might be a few pounds off. This is a really good family owned gym!!! I live the area and had always passed it but the outside never really pulled me in. It looks very old from the outside but once you walk in...you are pleasantly surprised! Brand new machines, very friendly staff, tons of different classes to choose from, and my favorite part of it all, the LOCKER ROOM! It's so bright, modern, and clean! Love this gym so much. I did the two week trial and loved it. Unfortunately the membership is too expensive so I won't be signing up. Ah...Fitness Incentive - the gym that people talk about either because they want to belong there or because they already do (or did). In the time I have been a member; I've used nearly all of their services and have had varying experiences. The Good Stuff: - Though not open 24 hours, they are open between 7 AM-6 PM on weekends and 5 AM-10 PM Monday through Friday. They are also open with reduced hours (with full staff) most holidays. - Their machines are top notch. Members have access to the latest fitness technology available and it is rare that any of their machines are out of service for more than 24 hours. If the owners can't fix the machine, it is promptly replaced. Out of all of the gyms I have belonged to on Long Island, this is the only gym that has managed to do this consistently. - The gym is always clean. It is rare to walk into the gym and see garbage all over the place, grimy sweaty machines or grubby looking staff. If there is an area of the gym that is dirty, it doesn't stay that way for long. - The class load is insane. One of the reasons why I tried this gym is because I kept hearing how Fitness Incentive had so many classes to choose from - this is 100% true. They have several workout studios (Yoga/Pilates, spin room, aerobics studio and outdoor work out area) and there is always a class going on during peak periods. They also have a bunch of premium classes available if the included classes aren't challenging enough. While the quality of classes ranges from amazing to mediocre, there really is something for everyone. I recommend trying out as many classes as you can at least once or twice to find your footing. - They have on-site nutritional counseling by an licensed registered dietitian, not someone who just hands out a diet sheet at the front desk when you join. This is hugely important to me as I have received horrible nutritional advice at a gym before. The rates can be out of reach for some (as they do not accept insurance), but she is an excellent resource. I will review this service separately. - The place is not a meat-market. You will not walk into this gym and see people working out in jeans and boots (sorry, but that annoys me to death!!!). The people that come here are serious about what they are there to do, which can either be motivating or intimidating depending on your temperament. Before I joined, past members warned me that the gym has a reputation for their members being a bit cult-like. And yes - I would be lying if I didn't admit that a small portion of the clientele can be a bit cliquish. However, there are also some really good people that are members so it definitely balances out. - The owners are really nice people - very down-to-earth and welcoming. They really do try and make their gym a great experience for their members. The Meh Stuff: - Parking can be insane during peak periods. Members do receive a parking pass as part of their membership, however their lot is not that big and shares spaces with Babylon Village municipal parking. This can equal lots of circling around for parking and the risk of being ticketed if you can't park directly behind the gym. I have dodged being ticketed myself, so I know how annoying this can be. If you plan to become a member and plan to take classes during peak times, allow at least 10-15 minutes before your class starts to find a parking spot. - The gym doesn't have a pool. I know some people don't care about that, but it does suck that I can't go for a swim after a workout like I was able to do at my prior gym. - Not enough lockers. During peak times, there are either no lockers available or lockers with items inside but no locks attached. I suppose that is good for the gym (as it means business is booming), but for me as a member, it can get annoying. - The price. While they do have student rates and you do not need a contract to join, their membership does tend to skew higher than most gyms in the area. I chalk this up to the gym being a product of the surrounding area(s). However, Fitness Incentive is part of the GlobalFit network, so if your employer offers this benefit it's a great way to reduce the membership costs. The Bad Stuff: There really isn't anything bad or horrible...and that's a good thing. They do have a smoothie shop; however I rarely get anything there except water or yogurt so I don't think it is fair for me to say whether it's good or meh. I also don't shop at the clothing boutique; however they do have cute t-shirts advertising the gym. If you went to school in either Babylon, West Babylon or West Islip---chances are you or your family have all had a membership at Fitness Incentive. The conveniently located gym sits right across from the Babylon terminal making it an easy stop for commuters to stop and workout after a long day in Manhattan. Here's a run down: Clientele: Depending on when you go, it ranges from high school teens to young 20s to women in their 40s who like they're in their 30s. Women to men ration is probably 65-35 and that has changed from three years ago when you could count the men on one hang. Classes: Probably the best part about Fitness Incentive and the reason they can charge their membership fees. From sculpting to 20-20-20 classes on trampolines a full Spin studio, Pilate's reformer and Yoga room---the instructors know they're stuff and will help you (and push you) to work harder. Plus, they're usually fun with the latest music. Facilities: On a scale from 1-5, 5 being the best, I give this a 4.5 Everything is cleaned and wiped down and the machines all work 95% of the time. Minus .5 as the bathrooms could have a little more, but I'm not complaining--it's a gym. Extras: The clothing store partnership in the front offers the latest in workout gear if you're into that plus a full massage spa is connected to the side along with a full time nursery. I've come here for years when my residence has been in Long Island and I'll recommend it for anyone else in the area. read more

I joined for their #1 rating, but when class schedules and day care no longer met my schedule I was left with just the gym, which wasn't worth the cost or the aggravation. (BTW #1 comes with A LOT OF HEAVY CAMPAIGNING.the only time management came in to interrupt classes and make an announcement was during their campaign asking everyone to vote as often as possible. Including campaign posters in the locker room and throughout the gym.) I personally had found myself sitting in the women's locker room only to be intruded upon by the janitor and his vacuum on a few occasions, while my daughter was surprised by him as she walked out of the shower wrapped in a towel. We were assured that there was a procedure in place that a female staff member checked the area prior to him entering, but "she" never preceded him when he entered while I was in the room. When I let them know, 2 weeks in advance, that I was moving and I was cancelling my membership, they terminated my membership immediately. The following day, when I came in to workout, I was confronted in an accusatory manner that they had "graciously" waived cancellation fees "even though" I had initiated the cancellation!!??? By law, they are required to provide me a refund because I'm moving outside the 25 mile radius. There are a lot of great instructors here. Sadly, in my experience, it's the arrogance and ignorance of customer service of just a couple of people that I came into contact with that has brought FI down to a ZERO rating with me. Had they simply handled things in a manner that respected the situation it would have changed everything to their favor. (Just as they persuaded me to vote and help them get their #1 ranking.) *** I've tried a lot of gyms in the neighborhood, but I couldn't wait to go to April, Michelle, Sal or Sara's spin classes. However, when the spin classes and day care were no longer convenient for me I realized that the gym was ordinary, at best. The only gym I've ever been to without fans. And besides that, there are no little frills that some of the less expensive gyms I've been to offer: No hand towels for workouts; no lotions in locker room; no locker keys; no cups for drinking water; no complimentary infused water; no chalk bin; no personal greeting; no trainer on the floor to offer assistance with machines (I was told if I wanted to know how to use machines I either had to pay for a trainer or come in during one of the scheduled orientations);no special decor; My last day I was told that I should have received a personal tour and orientation. They have a quarterly magazine that goes out to everyone, even though I was on the list, I never received one. There's no other gym like it around here. As someone who generally hates gyms and gets anxious about working out in public, I can attest to the friendliness and accessibility of this place. When I first signed up, they had one of the trainers show me around and teach me how to use the machines. The atmosphere is extremely friendly and positive, and everything is kept very clean. The gym atmosphere and classes are great, but the hidden gem here is their yoga classes. It may be part of a traditional gym, but these classes blow the expensive small yoga studio classes out of the water. There's a beautiful yoga room designated only for yoga/pilates/etc classes that has a tinted door to keep the yoga class separate from the noise of the gym. Pretty much all of the yoga teachers are fantastic. Each has their own distinct teaching style, but they'e all extremely helpful and seem to really love what they do. The only negatives are the hours and the price for membership. It's not open 24 hours a day like a lot of other gyms, and they close super early on weekends; so if you're someone who likes to work out late at night, this gym probably isn't the place for you. The price for membership is a little steep compared to those corporate chains, but for what you're getting (CLEAN top of the line machines, hundreds of classes a week, yoga and spin classes, etc), I'd say it's worth the price. read more

I've heard great things about the facility but when I had my two week trial I was not impressed. First off the locker room was tiny and outdated. I took 3 classes here in my trial and 2 out of the 3 were disappointing. While taking Zumba with Will the class was at 10:30 he did not arrive until 10:45, so unprofessional. Not to mention he only did the class until 11:30. I thought he would for sure make up the time that he had us all waiting. Also, I took a spin class Tuesday night and the teacher talked for a good 10 minutes beforehand explaining how she would run the class, super unnecessary. Not to mention she was not in shape. I left half way through the class. Lastly, Karen's yoga was good but again I felt she had too much explaining throughout the class. All in all super disappointed in my experience here. I've been to several other gyms on Long Island and NOTHING compares to fitness incentive, it blows all the other gyms out of the water and beyond. They offer a highly discounted membership for those 21 or under and over 65. Otherwise the membership is about $60 a month, NO STARTUP OR EXTRA FEES. HUGE group classroom, pilates/yoga studio, separate pilates reformer studio, free weight studio, and spin room with brand new bikes. Class schedule has over 150 classes and they are all FREE!!! Try to find that somewhere else, and NEVER will you have to sign up for a class or a machine. The instructors are amazing- if you don't think you're a "group class" person I beg you to try one, you will fall in love. I see new machines coming in constantly and rarely do I ever see a machine down for more than 24 hours. Sauna in each of the mens/ladies locker room but no pool. Honestly, I HATE public pools so this is no problem for me. The ladies at the desk greet me and know my name. In addition, there is free childcare in the nursery, a cute boutique and day spa with full salon and chiropractor. Cafe that serves protein shakes, smoothies, low-calorie soups and healthy snacks, plus a seating area with couches. What a great gym! I used to stick to a kickboxing gym and hot yoga studio- paying well over $170 a month in membership fees. This place was just what I needed to get back in shape after baby. Yes, the equipment is new and high tech- but the different classes that are offered are amazing. I try to switch it up everyday--yoga one day, step class the next. If you are looking for a change in your daily routine, FI offers it. Linda in the nursery is amazing with my infant son- it keeps my mind as ease knowing my son is being watched over while I enjoy an hour to myself. read more

The classes make working out very easy. I've been going here for years. Recently, however, something has come over this place. I haven't been to a single class in the past five months without encountering a crop of insane women. Literally, women of questionable competence standing next to me in the classes, locker room, and parking lot, exhibiting some of the most outrageous behavior I've ever seen. Trying to start fights, playing power games, being very loud, attempting to scare you, ignoring public etiquette, and overall disturbing the peaceful members. I don't know what happened, but I'm seriously considering looking for another gym. EDIT: I stopped going to this gym in late 2015. I do all of my workouts at home now, using an online fitness subscription service that costs me $10 a month. My workouts are much more effective because I do not waste any time and I do not need to wait for any equipment, and I can do my workout when ever I want to. I had only a small window of time in the mid morning and late evening to go to FI without the entire place being swamped with people in 'group training.' My workouts at home cost me 20 minutes of time, and I am in better shape than when I went to the gym (I worked with a trainer for a year too.) Not to mention I do not need to plan my workouts or buy expensive programs anymore. Also I don't need to worry about the creepy meter maids that give tickets the day your inspection runs out, getting my car or locker broken into, or avoiding nutty people that go here. Fitness Incentive is a decent gym, but I think gyms might just be annoying places. I love that I don't have to worry about fighting with people, because there were quite a few aggressive older women that would stare me down and give me dirty looks, and old men that would stand behind and leer at me while I was using the squat rack when at fitness incentive. Very unpleasant. But those days are over and I do not miss them at all! read more
