There are a handful of people who come into your life and change the trajectory of it forever. For…read moreour family, Deb Spector is one of those people. My daughter (age 13) has been working with Deb for just over two years now for a fairly obscure eating disorder. During that time, Deb has quite literally saved her life. Twice. As a parent, when your child is struggling with an eating disorder, especially one that few people truly understand (or have even heard of), the fear can be overwhelming. You spend your days second-guessing every decision, wondering if you're doing enough, wondering if you'll get your healthy child back. Then you meet someone who isn't afraid. That's Deb. She is deeply knowledgeable, incredibly experienced, and absolutely unwavering when it comes to helping people find their way back from a dark place in their relationship with food. She sees things that others miss. She asks the hard questions. She doesn't sugarcoat reality, and she doesn't back down when the work gets uncomfortable. Her style may not be everyone's cup of tea. She's direct. She's a straight shooter. She has strong opinions and isn't afraid to share them. There were times when her beliefs or perspectives didn't perfectly align with ours, and that's okay. One of the things I've learned is you can hold your own boundaries while still benefiting from the wisdom of someone who is exceptionally good at what they do. You don't have to follow every recommendation to the letter. You don't have to agree on everything. You DO have to trust the process. And if you're scared, that's okay too, because Deb isn't. When we were overwhelmed, Deb held steady. When we couldn't see a path forward, she could. She has a remarkable ability to hold both your hand and your fear while walking you through the hardest parts. Sometimes she will challenge you. Sometimes she will tell you things you don't want to hear. Know that every step is taken with the goal of helping someone heal. Our family will never be able to fully express our gratitude for what Deb has given (and continues to give) us. She's helping our daughter find a way to stay with us in a healthy way, and for that we will always be thankful.

Deb Spector is the best registered dietitian-nutritionist and here is why…read more I can't say enough good things about Deb Spector! She has helped my two daughters and me so much, and I truly feel like we are three of her success stories. We each had very different challenges with food and health. I have diabetes and struggled with my weight, my oldest daughter battled anorexia, and my youngest has PCOS, struggles with her weight, and has had terrible anxiety. Deb took the time to understand each of us as individuals and helped us build a much healthier relationship with food and with ourselves. Deb is incredibly smart, knowledgeable, patient, caring, and FUNNY! She holds you accountable, but she is always there to help you when you stumble. She never makes you feel like you've failed -- she helps you get back on track and keep going. What I love most is that Deb taught us that being healthy isn't just about food or a number on a scale. It's about living a happier, healthier, fuller, more productive and FUN life. She truly cares about her clients and wants them to succeed. Our family is so grateful for everything she has done for us. I would recommend Deb to anyone looking for a registered dietitian-nutritionist who genuinely cares and gets results. **She is simply the best! **

I signed up for personal training sessions with Roy on Tuesday, 7/2/19. My first day of training…read morewas on Wednesday, 7/3/19. I purchased a silver package for 2 trainings sessions a week at the rate of $445.00 a month. As a commitment to myself, I signed up for AUTOPAY on my credit card with payment due on the first of the month. On Thursday, 8/8/19, I notified Roy that the monthly payment wasn't showing on my credit card. He said it must have been a glitch in his system, and he thanked me for my honesty. It was the right and respectful thing to do. Too bad he doesn't want to return that same level of respect to me. I signed the contract understanding I could "terminate the relationship at any time and for any reason with no obligation due to the client" (myself) "beyond a freeze or transfer of any unused sessions." From 7/2/19-10/28/19, I had 5 unused sessions: Monday, 9/30/19 (cancelled by Roy for his own personal reasons), Wednesday, 10/2/19, Wednesday, 10/9/19 (cancelled by Roy for his own personal reasons), Wednesday, 10/16/19, and Wednesday, 10/30/19. On Monday, 10/28/19, I advised Roy that I would be in Florida for 2 weeks in November and would only be able to attend possibly 3 classes for the month. I also advised that I would be back in Florida for 2 weeks in December and for personal reasons, I would not be coming at all in December. I requested the AUTOPAY to be suspended. He suggested (not demanded as he accused me of saying) that I continue my workouts in December and to get "a head start on the New Year." I explained to him, that wouldn't make sense to me as I already had 5 unused days, and I would never be able to use these extra days. I left my session on 10/28/19 very disappointed with his response. My next scheduled appointment was Monday 11/4/19. On Friday, 11/1/19, I texted him to say I would not be coming in for training for the month of November and December and to remove me from AUTOPAY. I was billed through AUTOPAY on 11/1/19 for $445.00. Roy stated that his credit card company requires 30 day notice to suspend AUTOPAY, which is NOT indicated in the contract. Bottom line, DON'T DO AUTOPAY. I'm out the $445.00 for the month of November and $278.00 for the 5 unused days. I understand the no refund policy of the $278.00 for the unused sessions, but to keep the $445.00 for November, I feel, is wrong. I will never return to Fitness 4 You or recommend this facility to anyone else.

After reviewing my test results showing high blood sugar, my doctor recommended I see a certified…read morenutritionist to help me get back on track. I saw Susan Weiner's excellent reviews and reached out to her. Susan told me that she's permanently closed her Merrick office and only offers telehealth now, also doesn't take insurance. Not ideal but I want to avoid drugs and Susan sounded promising so I decided to give it a shot anyway. First Ms. Wiener had me fill out an extensive health questionnaire with lots of personal information and email her my latest blood test results. It was a lot of clerical work but I was impressed that she'd (presumably) take the time to read my material before our session so followed up on that promptly. Sadly that was not the case (read on): We met on a secure telehealth platform that she uses. I've used other business platforms (Zoom, teledoc etc.) and always saw the other participant(s) during the call. So I found it strange that Susan chose not to appear on camera at all. I looked at my own face but only heard Susan's voice during the 45 minute session, disconcerting and weird since visual cues are important too. Also Susan excused herself for short periods a few times during the call; I have no idea what she was doing since I couldn't see her. Although Susan claimed she had reviewed my files before the call, she showed no evidence of having done so; instead asked me to summarize everything for her. Disappointing. Susan's nutrition advice included detailed food journaling, a restrictive low calorie diet, reducing time online and exercise - canned information easily accessible online with no particular value added. Susan spoke quickly in a monologue and told me to take notes; she didn't send me any handouts before or after the call. Amazingly bad! Susan charged me a whopping $150 for the aforementioned session (only accepts checks made out to her personally). Since I got very little if any help from this call I chose not to continue with Susan for any further follow-up sessions.

My training program is now just three days a week of strength training, each day just 20 minutes or less (because life moves fast and a working mother doesn't have time for any more than that!), and I can happily say that within four weeks I am below my pre-pregnancy weight . I actually eat so much more now than I did before and the weight has slowly and steadily been coming off. I remember warning her during my first appointment that I was stubborn just so that she wouldn't expect much of me. Even though I needed to improve my eating habits, I didn't want Shana to come in and create a storm in my life. I did not want anyone dictating what I could and could not do; what I could or could not eat. After my initial consultation, I felt like I was still on two feet. I felt even more grounded than before. She gave me the information and tools to reach my goals, but I still always feel I have control over my choices. Rather than create the havoc I feared before meeting with her, she made it all simpler. She is positive and encouraging and that gives me confidence and allows me to make better choices for myself in reaching my goals. She got me in control of my decisions and I am now proud of the choices I make. I like that Shana doesn't just deal with food; she helped me improve my fitness and workouts, too. We go over what I could have done better and how I will succeed in the future. I love that Shana doesn't judge. I feel completely comfortable explaining what I have done, how I feel and what I plan to do. She's easy to talk to and very encouraging. She helps plan out my food and fitness goals. And she's really sincere about it all. She goes out of her way to accommodate your schedule, answer questions after-hours and motivate between sessions. I think I most enjoyed learning about myself during this process. I know now what I have to eat during one day, what makes a healthy meal and what foods to avoid that make me feel physically ill and also emotionally guilty. I now expect more from myself, and that makes me feel like a better, grown person. I like that when I'm feeling off track, meeting with Shana immediately inspires me to stay focused. She shows me what needs to happen to reach my goals. I also enjoy her social media profile. She motivates me during the week even when I'm busy with work and personal stresses. Seeing her other clients' responses shows me there are many others like me going through similar issues. I would definitely recommend Shana to anyone looking to improve their personal health. I give Shana credit for my nutritional improvements, my increased fitness expectations and my overall happiness. I may make my own choices, but she's a huge influence. She's changed my life and how I see myself and my potential, definitely for the better. Thank you, Shana!
