TLDR: Love the gym, coaches, staff, & community. 10/10…read more I walked into Prevail in 2017, and 9 years (and 1,324 classes as of this morning) later, I'm still showing up. I am leaving Los Angeles for the UK next spring, and honestly, one of the biggest things I am going to miss is coming to Prevail. Second might be a proper breakfast burrito and taco trucks, but first is definitely Prevail. Prevail is a great way to start your day, or end it if it's been a particularly stressful one. Before class, you're chatting with the friends you've made, and after class begins you're only thinking about the minute you are in. Anything you were worried about disappears because you can only focus on the present. And when things finally start to click for you on a specific punch, counter, defense, or footwork move... Or when you used to grab your knees desperate for air but now you can knock out 20 burpees in a minute... That's the dopamine hit you're looking for. VIBES Prevail is great for first-timers or returning champions. The front desk staff always welcomes you when you walk in, and if you're new, they will get you set-up and make sure you're not just tossed into the deep end. The coaches all have their unique style, but they always bring fun, energy, and experience to every class. They're never impatient with you if you're not doing something quite right, or aggressively shouting at you to do more. There has never been a coach I have not liked, or more accurately, I love 'em all. ;-) The community of members is a wide range of ages, fitness levels, and boxing experience. But aside from all that, it's basically a big group of cool folks. And there's definitely no toxic bro vibe. No one is judging what you can or can't do. Everyone is super supportive of each other. I've actually made quite a few friends that I've seen outside of class. (Or in typical LA fashion, we've exchanged numbers with the intent to hang out but then never do. But that's on us, not the gym. ) CLASSES SWEAT classes focus on pushing you physically (it's called "SWEAT" for a reason) but also give you a chance to work combinations on the heavy bag and mitt work with the coaches (and sometimes other gym members will jump in and mitt so everyone gets more mitt time). And the coaches are always trying to find ways to keep the classes fresh since it would be easy to just put them on auto-pilot. BOX classes have a mix of technique and fitness with a focus on fundamentals. There is a big picture intention behind the structure and path of the classes that goes beyond a single day class. That said, you can show up on any day to get to work without having been to any of the previous classes. BOX classes definitely give you the opportunity to elevate your skill level. SPAR is where you can truly work on your technique, but you will also be working hard. You will need headgear, cup, and mouthpiece. I know some gyms are a free-for-all, but Prevail fosters a collaborative and safer vibe. The coaches will tell you that you are not trying to win a fight or hurt your partner. You are both trying to get better. They will also remind you that it is up to you to communicate with your partner on the intensity you want to work at. ***** If you're looking for a new way to get in shape, build confidence, and make friends while you do it, come check out Prevail. P.S. I sometimes mitt Lolo's Friday 8am class, so say hi to the gray-haired, sweaty guy holding the mitts for you.

Sweat classes are my favorite but recently started going to S&C for some toning and am really enjoying both. Also, do privates with Lolo and there is no one better, never thought I'd be able to box and even be somewhat ok at it but his expertise has made all the difference!! Really, really great people who welcome you in, there's no need to feel intimidated there, it's just positive energy! Five out of five, couldn't recommend this gym more!!!!

He has helped me improve my health all around. I mean physically, mentally and emotionally. I've lost 117 lbs now. For me everything is tied together. I no longer take medication for many things. Because my health has improved so much. Tony is like Family to me. I have the utmost respect for my coach. I'm very grateful. I call myself a Runner and have this newfound confidence now. I never imagined the impact that he would have in my life. I'm very grateful for Tony. ‍

A typical 45-minute session frequently consisted of me jumping rope for extended periods while he cleaned his apartment (which doubles as his setup). I explained that I could not jump rope properly due to prior surgeries on all eight of my toes, but he refused to acknowledge my physical limitations and insisted on it anyway. He lacks proper strength training equipment and relies on the apartment complex's shared gym upstairs for treadmill work. Paying $100 an hour for exercises I could easily do on my own--such as running on a treadmill or accompanying him while he walked his dogs at the park--felt like a complete waste of money. He repeatedly refused to focus on core training despite my persistent requests. Overall, I found his demeanor to be extremely unprofessional, condescending, and verbally harsh, including making unsolicited and offensive personal comments suggesting I had a mental illness. This was a deeply distressing experience, and I strongly recommend looking elsewhere for a qualified trainer. More accurately, if I could give a zero rating, I would.

LOVE THIS GYM! I've never felt comfortable at gyms before, but this place is like joining a family…read more People are all really cool, respectful, and absolutely no judgment. Everyone supports each other and every single instructor is as good as it gets. Gym is clean, restrooms are clean. There are showers and lockers, hairdryers too! Literally everything you need in a facility. They have CrossFit, Boxing, Jiu Jitsu, Kickboxing, Etc. My favorite it jiu jitsu, and the sensei (and owner of the gym) has a passion for jiu jitsu that really shows in his expertise and knowledge. He and all the other instructors regularly compete in tournaments and take master classes to keep their skills up to date. Membership costs are the same if not lower than other MMA gyms and your membership pays itself off within a week of classes. Classes are easy to sign up for, they have an app and create a profile for you when you sign up to the gym. Never had any issues with it! As for parking, what can I say, it's Downtown Los Angeles and it's no different than any other gym. There's street parking and two pay lots nearby. I've never had trouble with parking, you figure it out after the first couple times.

The classes are very fun and beginner friendly yet challenging. Each coach has their own style of teaching and will go through different combo exercises and conditioning workout. The coaches adjust the level of difficulty based on the level of students that show up for that specific class. Regardless what the level of student, each class will guarantee an amazing workout that pushes the mind(learning different boxing skills) and the body. The gym is very clean and has a small free weights section attached to it. Not only can one improve his/her boxing skill, one can lift weights and get stronger and fitter as well. All coaches are very qualified. Some have been boxing for decades and some are pro fighters. I have taken some private classes. I had nothing but amazing sessions. The price is very reasonable as well. $150 for basic gym membership which includes all classes and all access to the entire gym. $250 is the next level up which is what I have. It includes two 1hr private sessions per months which is easily $200 plus at other boxing gyms. Also, a pair of hand wraps and boxing gloves will be provided when signing up. Another $100 value. Personally, I lost 25 lbs since I joined the gym and on my way to my first sparring session. Shark Boxing is just AWESOME!!! For anyone who is hesitating, don't. You won't regret join this gym.
