While visiting Barcelona, the first thing you think of is all the delicious tapas, paella, cheeses,…read moreseafood and other goodies that Spain is known for. However, after days and days of indulging in these, you may be looking for a little something to refresh your palate, or perhaps you might be looking for lighter fare to start off a day of strolling and sightseeing through the streets. If this is the case, I would highly recommend you stop by Itacate for a light, healthy breakfast to bring some variety to your diet. It was so good we visited twice during our trip! Itacate has a simple but refreshing menu offering light, healthy options that include fruit smoothies, fresh juices, toast with various topping options, fruit bowls and other things prepared fresh when you order it. For those with dairy restrictions, they also offer soy, almond and oat milk substitutions on all of their menu so everyone can enjoy what they have to offer. My recommendations to start off a day of exploring is a combination of the Acai bowl which is filled with all sorts of fruits and assembled in an appealing way and a Negrito, a smoothie that includes a shot of espresso to really give you a kick start. When you're in the mood to take a break from all the heavy Spanish cuisine during your journey through this beautiful city, Itacate is a must try. TL;DR for Travelers: + English Menu available + Has options and substitutions for those with dietary restrictions + Accepts Credit - (As of 7/12/2019, there unfortunately is major street construction going on just outside of the shop, completely blocking any vehicle traffic on street Itacate is located on, but the sidewalks are open. If you're taking a Taxi, have them drop you off on one of the nearby cross streets. If you're sensitive to dust, there are tables located further in the store which should alleviate any issues you may have.)

We sat at our table and the menu was only in Catalan. The waitress' Carola brought us an english menu. This place could hold about 30 people on the tables and after we sat down, all of a sudden people started pouring in. Carola was alone serving and she was all over the place taking care of everyone. The difference, she does not complain, she goes from one table to the next with a big smile on her face. She is so friendly and nice. We ordered the poached eggs with pastrami' the open omelet with spinach and avocado' and finally french toast. All were amazingly fresh and with awesome flavor. The potatoes that accompanied the poached were tremendously good. They are popped in the oven's then Fried and it was so flavorful. Also had coffees and other items and finally finished with a double chocolate stout beer. I am really cutting this short' but overall it was an excellent meal and a perfect start to our day. Met 2 of the owners , Eduardo (Edu was nickname), and he makes sure he is part of the daily ins and outs of the business which shows alot. Carola and Edu work perfectly together!! This a MUST go place for breakfast and brunch!!

Food we go eggs Benedict with bacon and shakshuka. It hit the spot because we were starving from travel. Shakshuka had tomato chunks in it and dipping the bread in was good! The eggs Benedict was alright to me. Bacon didn't get crispy but maybe that's the style? Not sure. The hollandaise sauce fell flat for me, didn't have any pronounced flavor. Again could be style differences over this side of the pond. Service was pretty slow for us.

I was searching for an open spot for juice and a bite in the area on a holiday morning and found this spot that is much more than just juice. They literally have hammocks that you can sit in! I chose a stool and enjoyed all the bright color and art. The staff were super friendly and spoke english and likely many other languages. I ordered a protein shake with banana that was surprisingly filling and quite tasty. I also got the avocado toast, which was way bigger than I was expecting. Starting with a nicely crispy, honking chunk of a loaf of bread, they smashed what looked like an entire avocado on it, creating a creamy, fatty top. These were topped with seeds, cherry tomato halves, beet sprouts and you can also get an egg. Quick service, but slightly pricier then the typical breakfast, the quality is outstanding.
