Maybe I've been spoiled by living in larger cities in the past, but Asian Center Supermarket is…read moresmaller and pricier than I'm used to :( For example, a pack of Yakult here was $5.99, whereas ASSI would sell the same brand for $3.99). I think it's because there just aren't any competitors in central PA (closest H-Mart would be 1.5h away, ASSI plaza 1h away, etc). The produce selection looked ok - you could get things like thai chili peppers here, bokchoy, or more exotic things like lychee and jackfruit. There are a lot of aisles with dry goods like rice, noodles, sauces (they did carry jarred Maeseri thai sauces which is what I was looking for). They have a seafood section which had a strong smell and a "food court" with labeled fresh food items which was pretty barren - maybe 2 takeout things of dumplings on the shelf that didn't look particularly appetizing (visited on a Sunday around noon). Also, notably, the store is not in downtown Lancaster -- it's kind of remote from everything else. I don't think it would be worth making a special trip for.

I'm so happy this grocery store exists and love to visit as often as I can. The store is clean and…read moreorganized and I love the produce selection. The staff is very helpful and the seafood counter is a great place to try fresh fish. I picked up some mackerel last time I visited and the seafood clerk was able to filet it to my specifications. I also love that I can get Hotteok (Korean sweet pancake) mix here! There's such a big selection of items and I always find new ingredients here that I can create new delicious dishes with. I always look forward to my next trip!

This is the best place to go for oriental groceries. it is primarily vietnamese and has lots of…read moreother stuff. the rice is always fresh, they use usually only eastland brand jasmine rice here. it has many types of food for indonesians, thai, viet, cambodian, chinese and koreans. there is also a small spanish section. we buy most of our items here, which is mostly IndoMie, their prices are slightly cheaper than the other vietnamese places down on paxton street. and they usually never have expired product, but you need to be careful, they have a lot of short-dated items. its a small yellow house that you might easily miss if you come down Derry from Harrisburg, its on an embankment near rookies sports bar and a garage. its at the intersection of Melrose and Derry street. its very cramped and crowded and the items are piled up very high. i always hit the sign when i come in thats right above the door. they are pretty nice people and usually always help you with anything. but sometimes you will see them cutting tofu or cleaning meat or whatever. something you wouldnt expect to see in a chain store. theres a few pictures of the owners granddaughter Erin-grace near the cash register. they usually always have fresh cakes and sponge cake there, the food is usually delivered on saturday. they are open 7 days a week, but have very very strange hours. like one day its 8a-5p, the next its 11a-7p, the next its 10a-4p. you really never know and i cant keep track, so unless i go there straight after work i cant be sure if its open. they have closed early at least twice that i know of. this has been around for several years and my wife and i have always gone there. But people congregate there and just talk to each other its the complete opposite of a convenience store where you just want to get in and out as soon as possible. the people seriously talk about the weather when theyre in line at the counter, and then they ask if all the foods fresh, i mean in vietnamese too. i'd want to know if it was fresh, but it takes forever sometimes, it just upsets me so bad.

My husband and I went to check this out based on Dan's recommendations. It's certainly not as big…read moreas Kim's Oriental on Paxton or certainly not 88. It's in a yellow house and it's actually quite a cute little grocer. A little tight moving around but you can pretty much find quite a selection there, from spices to vegetables to canned goods. We were hoping they had Munik spices from Indonesia; we've not found a place that has this brand yet. *still looking* Some of the boxed items seemed old. I wanted to try this almond agar agar stuff and the boxes were stuck to each other - like the boxes had gotten wet somehow. This is why this place got a 4 star from me. I really didn't like that. Additionally they were light on produce. We also saw sesame balls at the register. No one in Va. makes them right now, and we've not had any for months and months. We saw two hard old ones there at the register. Ew. Just throw those things out! But we did ask the man about them and he said "Come on Wednesday after 3, 4 or 5 pm and we have everything fresh". So maybe I'll be trying to go there again Wednesday or Thursday and see if they have sesame balls or fresh cakes, and see if they have more produce then too. I thought their rice was expensive. $12.95 for a bag of jasmine rice! Kim's is $12.75, and we can get it in Va for $9. Sam's Club here has it for $8 but it's a different brand (Elephant). But my husband said their spices were a lot cheaper than other places. So I guess it all evens out - as long as you don't by the $12.95 bag of rice! LOL
