Camp Merry Sunshine Dogs

Kathy was so very helpful during the adoption process of Cindy Lou and Judy Joelle, meeting me at…read moreGlenwood to hand them off. They are wonderful babies and adapting so quickly to being in our home, sleeping in our bed, and their big brother, Tater. They are bringing us joy!

I adopted a small yorkie from Kathy @ Camp Merry Sunshine out of Bonifay Fla. back in 2016. The…read moreyorkie was 8 yrs old. I paid $350 for the adoption fee. Most the dogs there outside had no water or any cover to get out of the heat/sun. The house, where she housed the smaller dogs, smelt extremely bad. The little Yorkie was severely malnourished, dehydrated, peeing constantly which meant she probably had a UTI infection and her spade sight incision was extremely red and becoming infected with sepsis. So the next morning I took her to my vets. I had them take a complete blood panel work-up, x-rays, urinalysis test, ect. to see what all is wrong with this sweet dog. Her test conclude that she is indeed malnourished, badly dehydrated, severe UTI infection and severe sepsis infection. So my vets kept her over night to hydrate her via IV and give her heavy antibiotics intravenously. The vet said he was very worried that she may not pull through the night or weekend. That's how sick this sweet dog was. She was on the brink of death. She had to have emergency surgery to clean the sepsis. All her other organs attached to the suture from the botched spade. I had to force feed her to get her to start eating again. Come to find out, Kathy had 3 cases against her in the courts for such bad practices with her dog rescue. As a Rescue Center you failed this sweet dog and many others, and in the eyes of the law this is Animal Cruelty. I can't even imagine the other countless of dogs in her care that has been sick and sold to others who only wish to love and care for their new pet. I do NOT recommend anyone adopting any of the dogs she has as she does not give adequate medical care and adopts out sick dogs. Deb P.

Fur babies is an untrustworthy adopting center. I adopted a kitten from petco supplied by fur…read morebabies and the Kitten was horribly sick. Vomiting 4 times in the few hours I had her and looking extremely skinny and refusing food and water. Naturally I took her to the vet and had blood work done. Found out she had Feline panleukopenia virus and had to be euthanized as she had a very slim chance of survival and I just didn't have the money to pay for more medical care on top of the adoption fee and vet bill from this visit. I at the very least expected a healthy cat, my wife and I had to deal with the trauma of bringing in a new, what we expected to be, lifelong family member. Just for her to die within a day of getting her home. I called Petco which directed me to fur babies and I ask that the vet bill be covered because they sold me a dying cat. So far it's been about a week and a half of minimal communication and they've ignored me for the last 4 days. Ive been very reasonable, I was willing to let the adoption fee go if they could provide another healthy kitten to me and just cover the vet bill. I was even willing to just have the vet bill covered. But so far they only speak when spoken too and are in no hurry to resolve any of this. Ive provided everything they asked for in regard to the vet records and Ive been very patient, it's clear to me they want to just sweep me under the rug by ignoring me. My advice, steer clear of petco and fur babies when it comes to adopting. This is not the first time I've gotten a dying pet from the Muskogee petco. Though Petco did do their part to make it right in the past. It's out of their hands because fur babies are responsible for the animals. Go to a humane society or maybe try going to a larger town that actually cares for their animals. Fur Babies is sketchy and I wouldn't trust them in the future.

Could say lot more here but will bite tongue. Finally I guess the powers that be felt sorry for me and sent me here. Went for one kitty but got a different one instead. Pepper is the perfect addition to our family. These people WANT to get their charges adopted. They are great all the way around. I know this is out of the way for most people, but if they have a pet you are interested in, this is the place to go.

These folks do seem to be a caring group, and I will say that if someone has a pet that they need…read moreto rehome, or has found a stray that they can't keep, this is a good call to make. They are a no kill shelter, and I will presume that they screen properly. They ARE small, and they do have a waiting list. That goes without saying. Be aware of that. However, if you are a rescuer in that region...and trust me, that general area (I don't live there any longer. I'm now out of state) is an animal dumping ground, they seem to have an unspoken limit on the number of strays you can bring in to them. They seem to have cut me off after 3 over the course of a year. They didn't come right out and say it, but they just never called me back. Every time I called them (I had trapped and rescued a stray cat that someone had dumped near where my Mom lived...A pretty common occurrence) they would say something like there were 2 in line in front of me or something. But I was watching their Facebook page, and several adoptions would take place, sooo...I would call them back. Nope! Still no space! I finally just wound up keeping this little guy even though I already had 3, and he still doesn't really get along with them...and we live in a really small place! I wasn't planning on another cat. Just no way I would leave him out there on his own! Sigh! It would be more efficient if they would network with other animal shelters in the area, so that when they don't have space they could work on finding a shelter that does. I've seen other shelters and rescues that do that, and it's a really effective way of working such situations out. These folks didn't even have a list of such shelters to give me. Where I was living, I had no internet access other than on my phone with limited data, so couldn't effectively do that research myself. I realize that this rescue is small and with limited resources! And cudos for being no kill!! But it needs to be understood that the surrounding area there is seriously an animal dumping ground! If someone has a heart for animals...but can't reasonably keep every animal they rescue, they are going to need a rescue...or better, a network of rescues willing to work with them. It is also helpful to utilize fosters. I don't recall ever seeing anything about working with fosters on their page or website. I may have missed something there. Just didn't see it. Sorry this is long. It's just that there's a serious need in that area for effective rescues. If not already in place, affordable spay and neuter and TNR programs would be awesome too! Even though I don't live in that area any more, my hope is that maybe over (not too much) time some improvements in the way things are done can be made, and more animal lives can be saved. And isn't that what the goal of rescue is supposed to be in the 1st place? Peace
