Camp Merry Sunshine and Kathy are awesome! They entrusted one of their rescues to me and it has been an absolute joy to see how this sweet little poodle is ( slowly) coming out of her shell. Poor Teddie Celine was so beaten down when I got her. It has been one year and seven months and she is starting to really blossom. A more precious soul you have never seen. Thank you Kathy, and everyone at Camp Merry Sunshine for saving this dear sweet life! Vallee Green Elgin, Texas

Ms Kathy was so nice to work with. What people need to remember is she is running this resume and getting dogs out of bad situations. My baby his terrified of everything because of what he went through before she got him. But, he CLEARY trusted her. That much was very apparent to me. She got his shots and flea/tick/heart worm done and had records to give me. We will have a long road to teaching him how to be a dog and teach him how loved he is. But, if it weren't for Ms Kathy we would not have had that chance. She even gave me food to take him since my other frenchie eats raw and his stomach has to get used to it. She is an angel on earth for these dogs. Remember that before you judge. She takes them and cares for them when a shelter may not. Bless you Ms Kathy!

My daughter found a little white miniature Schnauzer called Rosie on Adopt-a-Pet.com for me. Turns out Rosie was actually at Camp Merry Sunshine Dogs in Bonifay, FL. We live in Key West so Kathy gave us the name of a dog transporter that would bring her to us. The transporter charged $650. Rosie's page said that Rosie was chipped, current on all her shots, wormed and spayed (campmerrysunshinedogs.rescuegroups.org/animals/detail?AnimalID=15816676). We bought her for $250. Kathy did not state that the dog had JUST been spayed. (The day we got her it had been 10 days). Rosie (which we are renaming Finnegan) was picked up last night, (July 16, 2020) by the transporter at 10:30 p.m. She drove all night and we received the dog at a little past 10 a.m. today The dog was very docile and quiet when we got her. In fact, she was quite lethargic. We figured she was just tired from the trip. The dog has not eaten anything since we got her. She did drink a little water. She has not peed or pooped. She keeps shaking her head back and forth. She has not made one single sound since we got her. The only paperwork we got from Camp Merry Sunshine Dogs was one sheet from the place that spayed Rosie which is in Dothan, Alabama. I called them to ask if perhaps she was this way due to the surgery. They said that she should be eating and drinking like normal and should be active by now. They suggested I take her to a vet immediately to make sure she didn't have an infection from the surgery. I called a local vet and got her in right away. They took a fecal sample, did bloodwork and ran a scan on her to see if she had an infection. She has a yeast infection in her ears. She is slightly anemic and dehydrated. They gave her 4 injections, 3 prescriptions, and gave her under-the-skin fluids to be absorbed. BEAR IN MIND, THIS WAS ALL DONE THE SAME DAY SHE CAME TO US. The cost for the vet was $557.21 Oh, and I had the vet scan her for the microchip. They could not find one anywhere on her. I have stated the facts. Draw your own conclusions.

Kathy was so very helpful during the adoption process of Cindy Lou and Judy Joelle, meeting me at Glenwood to hand them off. They are wonderful babies and adapting so quickly to being in our home, sleeping in our bed, and their big brother, Tater. They are bringing us joy! read more

I adopted a small yorkie from Kathy @ Camp Merry Sunshine out of Bonifay Fla. back in 2016. The yorkie was 8 yrs old. I paid $350 for the adoption fee. Most the dogs there outside had no water or any cover to get out of the heat/sun. The house, where she housed the smaller dogs, smelt extremely bad. The little Yorkie was severely malnourished, dehydrated, peeing constantly which meant she probably had a UTI infection and her spade sight incision was extremely red and becoming infected with sepsis. So the next morning I took her to my vets. I had them take a complete blood panel work-up, x-rays, urinalysis test, ect. to see what all is wrong with this sweet dog. Her test conclude that she is indeed malnourished, badly dehydrated, severe UTI infection and severe sepsis infection. So my vets kept her over night to hydrate her via IV and give her heavy antibiotics intravenously. The vet said he was very worried that she may not pull through the night or weekend. That's how sick this sweet dog was. She was on the brink of death. She had to have emergency surgery to clean the sepsis. All her other organs attached to the suture from the botched spade. I had to force feed her to get her to start eating again. Come to find out, Kathy had 3 cases against her in the courts for such bad practices with her dog rescue. As a Rescue Center you failed this sweet dog and many others, and in the eyes of the law this is Animal Cruelty. I can't even imagine the other countless of dogs in her care that has been sick and sold to others who only wish to love and care for their new pet. I do NOT recommend anyone adopting any of the dogs she has as she does not give adequate medical care and adopts out sick dogs. Deb P. read more

Miss Kathy is a sweet lady caring for all these puppies and dogs. She gave us a sweet little cavapoo named Frankie and we absolutely adore him! He was neutered whenever we got him and had all his shots. She provided documentation and was very kind to us, giving a very reasonable price and allowing us to visit with him before adopting-she even offered to groom our puppy herself for free before sending us on our way. She is truly doing the lord's work and if anything, all I would say is that she could use some extra hands, so if you would like to help take care of these dogs with her you should reach out! read more

Do not recommend. I went with my mother so she could look at a couple of dogs she seen on here. They were yellow (supposed to be white) they smelt terrible and you could see they have not been taken care of. The female was thin and Kathy didn't seem to know much on the age. She couldn't tell us much but perked up when saying we were interested and she mentioned the money. After leaving she was texting with my mother, very rude and telling her to go somewhere else that took care of the animals if she wanted one. The dogs are very neglected there and not being taken care of. All she cares about is the money. Not about the dogs. read more

Kathy is not the nicest person to deal there is a real lack of communication except when it comes to collecting money then all of a sudden her phone works. The conditions of her facility are FILTHY the gods are kept in cramped conditions. I was told is was open pen When I received my dog he stunk terribly he has Kennel Cough, double ear Infection and parasites. Perhaps she should focus on the health of the animals and stop being so damn greedy and stop taking dogs that you can't care for. He was extremely under weight.no the Kennel cough has been passed though out my home to other dogs and plus all the other additional vet bills. Would NOT recommend this place she should be shut down. How do you send out a dog with Kennel cough? That's mean to the animal and so disrespectful to the buyer who has other pets. Did I mention she's a nasty and threatened to tell the transportation driver to turn around if I didnt send payment. Meanwhile she was already paid And not even a thank you. She RUDE read more

I found a Shih Tzu male online his name was Steph. I contacted Kathy and she told me Steph was available. She seemed to be a very nice person. I explained how I suffered from severe depression and PTSD. She listened to what I had to say then proceeded to tell me a little about her early life. How rough it had been on her. I told her I was suicidal due to losing my companion animal Sandy a two year old male Havanese. I told her how he had broke his leash recently, got to the road and was run over. I told her I got there shortly afterwards and how Sandy had died in my arms. Kathy told me how sorry she felt for me and how she was going to give me Steph and another female dog which had been with Steph for a while. She told me she didn't want to break them up. The female was a Shih Tzu-Poo or some sort of cross. Both dogs had been fixed. Kathy also stated she was going to be traveling to Florida very soon. She said a woman in her eighties was downsizing and had a pair of Havanese which had not been fixed. She stated the elderly lady was giving her the pair of Havanese. She told me the male Havanese was three years old. I can't remember how old the female was supposed to have been. Kathy asked me if I wanted all four dogs. I was flabbergasted some one would be so nice to me. I told her she was literally saving my life. She had told me how Steph was a total lap dog and the other dogs were all very people friendly. I felt we had really made a connection. I thanked her repeatedly. I felt my life would resume with lots of love coming from four wonderful dogs. Kathy told me she would be headed down South soon and would give me a call Friday. It came and went with no contact from her. She called the next day said she had texted me at my number with no response. I explained it was a landline. She laughed and said something about how that explained her not getting any response back from me. She told me she'd call me back after she had picked up the dogs and was headed home. She did so and it proved to be an eye opening experience to say the least. I was so happy when I saw her number come up on my caller id. She started in after I said hello by stating Steph had been given to someone else. No explanation just he had been given to someone else and was no longer available. She said the same thing about the female dog which had been his companion. That she had been given to a friend of her's and was no longer available. She said the female Havanese had been given to another friend of her's and that I would need to meet with her to pick up the male Havanese. I asked Ms. Jekyll and Hyde why I was now only receiving one dog. She answered vaguely that I had said something about having a female dog and felt I didn't need the female Havanese. She said nothing about the other two dogs Steph and his companion female. I felt, at this point, if I said very much I'd lose out on the male Havanese. So, I let the matter drop. Kathy told me we'd meet and she'd determine if I was a "fit" person to own the male Havanese she was supposed to still be giving me. The next day Kathy called again. She told me she had conversed with the elderly woman who had originally owned the two Havanese. Kathy told me the elderly lady did not want the pair split up. Kathy then proceeded to tell me I could now have both Havanese for $350 a piece $700 total. At this point, I felt like killing myself. I told her I'd try to get a personal loan. I talked to my Wife about the whole deal. She (my Wife) reminded me we were moving soon and needed all our money for the move. I called Kathy the next day and asker if she would consider $200 and a .40 pistol in it's box with all it's paperwork and two boxes of ammo. Kathy told me she had too many guns and didn't need anymore. I reminded her how messed up I was and asked her why she was treating me this way. Her response, "You'll just have to get better on your own." Then she hung up in my ear. read more

We never took, nor do we ever take our dogs to dog parks, so get your facts straight. I also have a certified letter from the veterinarian who saw the puppy and he clearly placed blame and poor care on Camp Merry Sunshine and shows we took our puppy to the vet within 72 hours of receiving him. The organization would have you believe we didn't do anything for 10 days, so just another example of their lies and deceit. Also, she didn't even reply to my post until years later. I have the incriminating letter from the veterinarian for those of you who are wanting to rescue a pet and want to know what you're getting into with this agency. Btw, our puppy is now 3 years old and loving life. We adopted two more Beagles later on, but from a credible source, and they both arrived happy and healthy. We are blessed to have three wonderful "boys." read more

I can only say I adopted two great puppies from this rescue. We got a Puggle back in August and thought she needed a friend so we got a Pug in October. I took both dogs to the vet after we got them and they had no issues. She seemed to really care for the dogs her place was not what I expected but when we came back and got the Pug our Puggle was very happy to see her old friend Kathy. To me that says a lot I would absolutely adopt another dog from her. read more

Sadly I can't give a good review because the poor furbaby I adopted was so sick I had to take to the vet right away and was told it would have died had not I rescued and brought in. Maybe their hearts are in the right place rescuing but they are going about things the wrong way. These dogs are crammed together in one giant pen under a metal roof, only wire separating the small dogs from the large one. I asked before driving down to Bonifay if the dog was healthy, or did it vomit or have diarrhea, I was assured many times, oh no, it's very healthy. Nope, she wasn't . She vomited and pooped blood! Plus had worms! She was a wet mess when handed to me, shaking,my heart was sad. She told me she had bathed her but she got dirty again. It took 3 baths when I got her home to restore some order to her. So, not only was I out my adoption fees but add almost $200 more to the vet. Plus I was told several times some other lady wanted the same dog so make sure I get there first! I later found out this is a fib many tell to get you there. Those poor babes have no beds or blankets, they stay in those cages where they poop and pee and get hosed down, plus they have their food and water up off the ground attached to the wires there. So this is their existence. When I emailed them about it I was told bring her back and they'd refund my money the first time but I told them I could not in good conscience return the poor sweetie to them! She was very ill and on meds to kill the worms plus meds to stop the bleeding which the vet says was caused by RAT POISON! My God! So, I told her I could not return her to them because she might not make it and needed medical care but they should do the right thing and return my money. Later the owner tried calling me but it was a Missouri numbest I think and I don't answer numbers I don't know. Her voice mail said she was in town and she'd come get her. Oh no mam! I already told them I could not return her to them in good conscious. I believed her offering on,y to try and show she offered to make things right because she's use to bad reviews. She likes to try and appear that she tried but that doesn't explain why the dogs are kept in such conditions! It was wall to wall large dogs and small dogs were not as much but still too many in one pen. I'm sad that this place is allowed to have a license. At least change how you guys operate. You seem to only care about MONEY and not the dogs. Their needs should come first. I wish every dog there could get rescued but be prepared for vet bills, be prepared for potty training, be prepared for emotional needs. Hey Kellie and Kathy, if you really care about those animals then clean up that place, drop the fees way down low, like $60, like they do in Arizona, plus sometimes when overcrowded they wave the fees! It's about the dogs! Not about the almighty dollar $$$. I pray that you really change how you've been doing things so those dogs can have a better chance at life. I pray no other dogs get ahold of rat poison from your place. Fix it up where each dog can lay down in a bed with a blanket for Pete's sake. Stop keeping them crammed up in all that pee and poo! No one deserves that! No one! Especially not Gods precious animals. Now please change, and don't embarrass yourself by trying to dispute this or make excuses. That would be wrong and pitiful. I'm speaking honestly. God bless......please change... help those sweet dogs..... read more

Got the sweetest puppy from here, but not the healthiest - she had round worms, coccidia, fleas and horrible kennel cough when we got her. My other dog ended up getting the fleas and the cough. Having to keep them separated for 2 weeks so they don't keep passing it back and forth, which isn't convenient at all. Just be prepared for the vet bills if you choose to adopt from here. Also, $300 for a rescue is a bit pricey, but she was cute and hard to resist. Lastly, Kathy told us that our puppy and her brother were brought to her from a family that moved away and they couldn't take the puppies with them. Yet 10-days after we adopted our puppy, an obvious sister was posted for adoption - same age/description and looked almost exactly like like our puppy. Maybe there is a legit explanation, but seems a bit suspicious to me. read more

If I could have given Camp Merry Sunshine Dogs more than five stars I woud have done so, without hesitating. In fact, I would have given Camp Merry Sunshine Dogs a hundred stars or a thousand stars, if I could have done so. I thought that I would never have another dog. I had a dog as a child, a Cocker Spaniel, which was wonderful. During the COVID pandemic, I felt very loney, extremely isolated, Moreover, my wife suffers from Parkinson's and has limited mobility, which made the situation that much worse. Because of the COVID pandemic and my wife's Parkinson's we began to live in a bubble. Aside from going to the drug store and grocery store, we did not go anyhwere, I mean anywhere. I told my wife that as much as I loved her and enjoyed reading in my over-stuffed chair in the living room that I would go crazy if I had to do this for the rest of my life. It took some convincing, but I finally persuaded my wife to allow me to obtain a mini-Australian Shepherd from Camp Merry Sunshine Dogs. The mini-Aussie was named Stormy, a name we changed to Zoe. This dog, Zoe, has been a Godsend. She is cheerful, calm, and extremely sweet. Zoe has bonded with us, and we have bonded with Zoe. The amazing thing is that my wife has bonded with Zoe, because my wife never had pets growing up and was afraid of dogs. Now, not only do I love Zoe, my wife does as well. Zoe loves my wife. Zoe wiggle-waggles her little tail every morning in saying hello to my wife. Sometimes Zoe is so happy to see my wife in the morning that she will jump up on the bed, wiggle-waggle and cover my wife with Aussie kisses. It amazes me, but my wife absolutely adores Zoe, as I already said. Moreover, Zoe has at least helped me to break out of my bubble. Zoe and I go on endless walks and romps. We keep each other company and have endless fun together. Zoe has been great, fantastic, fabulous, out of this world good!!!!! I am immensely grateful to Camp Merry Sunshine Dogs and its owner for Zoe, who has completed us, giving us happiness and serenity. Zoe is such a great companion I cannot even come close to doing Zoe justice. I just can't. Zoe is that good!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! P.S. Some have criticized the owner of Camp Merry Sunshine Dogs. I have only praise for her. Zoe was given a veternary check-up, professionally bathed and groomed before she was transported here. Obviously, Zoe had to receive a veterinary examination and various vaccines and shots when she got here. Zoe was as beautiful as could be. The physical examination she received here showed that Zoe had been given good care at Camp Merry Sunshine Dogs, for she was in perfect health!!! read more

Kathy is a good and caring person. I have adopted several dogs from Kathy. Her kennels were clean every time I have gone. I have gone during her off hours and still found everything clean. I have seen her playing with the dogs. If I lived closer I would volunteer to help. Everyone wanting a new family member should check out Kathy. I went recently with some friends to look at dogs for their 9 year old son. We had been to other shelters and hadn't found one he liked. But this place was totally different. I'd never seen so many different, friendly dogs in one place before. She was very patient and took the time to show us several different dogs that the boy was interested in. It was difficult for him and the parents to choose just one out of the many beautiful animals they spent time with. But they finally settled on a small-mid size female who was a real sweet heart. If you want to find that special dog I can't think of a better place, selection or person to deal with! read more

If I could give this place a negative, I surely would. This lady is NOT a rescue, she is a salesperson who likes to make money. I first emailed her about a Dobie that looked terribly sad and wanted to adopt. I was not asked to fill out one form or give her ANY info about my family as you normally need to and get approved so that they know the dog is going to a good home. I simply got an invoice for $375 (adoption fee plus transport). When I emailed her back saying that I had decided to go with another dobie but thank you anyway, she emailed me back and told me "You wouldn't qualify to adopt her anyway"...like what they heck lady?? Because I choose not to adopt from you, you shoot back being rude about my qualification to rescue an animal. SMH so unprofessional! Not to mention if you look at the photos of her animals there are many stuffed into each kennel and they all look wet on their lower extremities from walking in urine. In addition to this, she was rude in other emails upon asking for the results of heartworm tests (considering it says they come with vets paperwork) she tried to say that they don't even test their animals for heartworms and explained how simple is to treat for heartworms. Then when told for $375 they would need to have her tested first she said "SHOP ELSEWHERE"... If the intent was to SHOP, it would be much easier to buy a puppy that comes with a clean bill of health and not an adult breeder that was thrown away. The intent was to ADOPT/RESCUE and animal in need of a home and love. This lady doesn't give a crap about the health or happiness of her animals. She wants money and doesn't like to be called out on her unprofessional practices. Shame on you lady! You give rescues a bad name! read more

It coast me 1,015,42 to get the beautiful dog well ,after many trips to the groomer the urine stains are gone and he is a beautiful dog no thanks to Kathy please do not believe any thing she Tell's you as her only interest is not the dogs it is to make money STAY AWAY! read more

--WARNING-- Worst Rescue ever. They were fostering our dogs for 2 months. My dogs were healthly and were always taken to the vet by myself. I explained to kathy that I took the dogs to the vet exactly the day before taking them to the rescue. I gave her all their medications & instructions even gave her paperwork from my vet. One was diagnosed with mange the non-contagious type. Which , she had been braveteco & Nexgard from my vet and some other treatments. Kathy was aware of everything. She stated we only needed to provide food but I said I will be providing all my dogs needs. When she showed us her dogs food they were in trash cans outside in the heat & humidity. When she opened it there was an ALIVE MOUSE IN THE FOOD ! They were so called cleaning kennels and they left the dogs in the kennels while they were soaking the kennels down with water , which the dogs were soaked as well. Well one day we got a message from her that she took one of my dogs to the vet that I had to give her money. which was just a couple of days after I dropped them off for fostering. She stated it was 125 than stated , we kept asking her for proof such as a receipt or atleast the veterinarian clinic name . She kept avoiding the question! 75 than needed money for food which no way In hell that 3 (40 Pounds of Kibble & 2 Cases of wet food) was already gone in a month for just my dogs. Well finally I just send her the money anyways and she didnt send me photos or videos of my dogs as i requested. She lied about having a vet bill by my dogs. THAN PUT MY DOGS ON HER PAGE FOR AUCTIONING! AS IF THEY WERE OBJECTS!! SHE WILL HOLD YOUR DOGS HOSTAGE FOR MONEY ! BEWARE ! BEWARE ! DO NOT GO TO HER ALL HER DOGS ARE SICK AND GROSS. SHE DOESNT BATHE THEM AND IF SHE DOES SHE CHARGES FOR BATHING ! WHICH IS OUTSIDE IN THE DIRT WITH THE HOSES. NO FANS OUTSIDE ATLEAST FOR THE DOGS WHEN ITS GOT OUTSIDE. NOTHING TO PROTECT THEM FEOM HURRICANE'S. WHEN I PICKED UP MY DOGS THEY HAD BLOODY DIARRHEA, WORMS , KENNEL COUGH & NOT WANTING TO EAT OR DRINK! WHICH IS ANOTHER BILL FOR ME WHICH IS OKAY BECAUSE I LOVE MY DOGS. read more

We recently decided we needed to add another dog to our home, specifically one we could work with and train for a service dog for our epileptic child. We reached out to multiple rescue agencies within a hundred mile radius and after nearly a month still did not have replies from any of them. I posted my vent about the lack of cooperation on Facebook and Kathy from Camp Merry Sunshine reached out to us about a couple dogs she had that she thought might work well. Our son picked out the one he wanted based on photos she sent. Kathy was already planning a trip from FL to MO where we live and offered to bring him to us at no extra charge. Little man decided his pup would be Rocky. Rocky was thrilled to see another dog and all 4 kids. He would check in with Kathy during our meet and greet, but kept snuggling on the kiddos and introducing himself to Marbles. The only issues we've had with Rocky, we expected with any dog we brought into our home. Changing food over caused a bit of loose stools (but on request, Kathy even brought us some extra of what he was use to so we could transition him over to what we use), he's had a few accidents learning to go potty outside (but he's still young and has never lived inside), and some days he gets a bit excited and we have to let him play outside a bit longer. Other than that, he has been the perfect fit for our family! Kathy worked with him on using a leash on their trip up, and he has never pulled on one for us. He has snuggled up to little man or I when something loud startles him (horns in a parade, fireworks, etc), but he has quickly learned that little man is his person and that he needs to keep him safe. We had planned to train him to help us respond to little mans seizures, but within a few days of being in our home he let us know one was coming and then kept everyone else from stressing about it. When we have our own place and consider adding another dog or two to our family we will absolutely call Kathy again and have her look out for a dog for us. She knows the dogs she has in her care and wants what's best for those adopting as well as the dogs. read more

My experience with this shelter was very unfortunate. About a month ago I adopted an 8 month old Chihuahua for $300.00. When I arrived Kathy was holding this trembling, soaking wet 4lb ball of fur. She said she had just given him a bath, it appeared it had been a squirt with the hose, his tail, tummy and legs were stained brown, which, with multiple baths is now white. She handed him to me and my heart went out to him. I specifically asked if he was a puppy mill puppy and she said absolutely not. She said he came from Missouri (don't know what the connection is but seems many of her dogs come from there) where the breeder raised show dogs, but due to his underbite he could not be shown. There is not a doubt that he had no human contact. I have worked with him continually, and after four week, I can touch him however he barks and runs from anyone that comes to the house. My heart breaks for this adorable little pup. I am elderly and live alone with three other dogs that he is forging a relationship with. I can't imagine what the outcome would have been if he ha been adopted into a normal family situation, he is terrified of my 5 and 9 year old Great Grand children. I have not contacted Kathy regarding the problems, her web site states "no refunds" and even if it did not I am committed to caring for, and striving for some normalcy for this little guy. I admire animal rescuers, and hopefully, this was a fluke. I know all her animals need homes, my only advise to potential adoptees is to spend time with the dogs and make sure it is a good fit for your family. read more

I too would ignore the first reviewer and would not hesitate to use Camp Merry Sunshine. Kathy Williamson is an angel to these dogs and has provided them with the second chance they need until they are placed in a permanent home. No, the facility is not The Ritz Carlton for dogs but it is certainly a safe and caring haven until they are permanently placed. Shame on the person who would deter someone from providing these dogs a loving permanent home because of her mean spirited opinion. We recently adopted a beautiful King Charles Cavalier who is perfectly healthy and shows no sign of abuse or mistreatment. I highly recommend Camp Merry Sunshine!!!! read more

PuppyFind information said 3 yo (almost 4 yo) 6 pound, chocolate, toy poodle. Kathy told me the dog was healthy, but failed to mention near toothlessness. She delivered a very sweet, 8 yo, 8 pound poodle (according to vet notes in shot record) in a dark, parking lot. I was too trusting. Don't be! I didn't see what Kathy's place is like. She always seemed quite nice and caring, but be careful about the information she gives. I have emailed her and will try to talk with her about all this. I don't appreciate deceptive practices. I've only had the dog overnight and wonder what else has been covered up. I don't know what I will do now. Later (same day) . . . What I did? I took the dog back to Kathy who welcomed her with open arms and made an equiitable settlement with me. Kathy's doing great work. I'm not sure why things went so wrong with this transaction. I can't really take back the previous facts, but considering the end result I would work with Kathy again, but with much more caution. read more

I am about to adopt a dog from this shelter. I have recently lost my beloved rescue Maltese, Hailey. She was a puppy mill mom before I rescued her when she was five. I had her for 9 years. I have been searching for another rescue, and came upon Misty. Kathy let me know her story was very similar to Hailey's, however she was from a breeder, not a puppy mill. Kathy and Kelly have been so incredibly helpful to me in getting my new forever dog. They have sent me photos, and have kept me updated daily on how she is doing and have never complained once about my many texts and emails. I am scheduled to pick her up this weekend. I absolutely cannot wait! Thank you Kathy and Kelly for all you have done to help little Misty find her forever home! I look forward to meeting you both this weekend! read more

People need to understand that just as with adopted kids, they can come with issues - behavior and medical issues. With this in mind, we adopted one from Camp Merry Sunshine. We did have to work with our new puppy in both issues, but the issues were expected - just as the previous one we adopted from different place too. We can't be happier with ours now - he's just as what he was described. Very mischief, agile and not afraid of anything. He could be a bully, but that's his character, we love him to bits. We put both of our adopted puppies to pet insurance right away. Dogs are not cheap and you do need to spend money on their welfare. Don't expect perfect ones, but expect to work with them. read more

It's amazing! Our family has been to many shelters looking for a perfect dog, but couldn't find it until we came here. We adopted our Chow Chow from here the very same day we went their for the first time! We now live very happily and we are so glad we came across this place! It may not look as nice but they rescue the most beautiful and sweetest dogs ever! read more

I purchased my Bella from Kathy. She is a full blooded Chihuahua. I got her April 2017. a few days after I got her and settled her in her new home with me, I took her to my vet. She was perfect except for starting to need dental work. This is normal in Chihuahuas. About 3 years old it is not unusual to see a chihuahua needing dental. I have never looked down or thought Kathy was doing a bad job. I have kept in touch with her over Bella and she enjoys seeing a dog picture of her to know she was able to give her a good home after Bella coming from a breeder who had not taken care of her other than for her to birth puppies. My kinship with Kathy to adopt my furbaby was so easy and enjoyable. If I lived closer I would help work with the smaller dogs. I have a little chihuahua I brought home and have worked with him about a month. He has come a long way. I hope he will find a home soon when I take him back to her this coming week. read more

This place is a win, win for all. When adopting an animal you are not buying a piece of furniture. Animals are living beings, no more perfect than you. If you care enough to bring them home and there is an issue with health or behavior FIX IT. If that is not an option, don't get one. I have adopted from Camp Merry Sunshine and would recommend them highly. I am extremely happy with my new family member. It is obvious she has been taken care of by a kind, compassionate person. read more

I think the previous reviewer has a personal grudge against the manager of the facility. I would ignore her petty, mean-spirited rant. I adopted an 8 month old male mixed breed dog from this facility earlier this month and the wonderful dog Is quite healthy and is of a sweet temperament. He had a thorough exam and the Vet said that he was well cared for and had all his current immunizations as well as being neutered. This particular dog had been left in a dumpster earlier in his life, rescued by Camp Merry Sunshine several months ago, and shows no signs of maltreatment. The dogs sometimes are rescued in groups and there may be appearance of temporary overcrowding while the dogs are checked by the Vet and their behavior is being watched for signs of illness or difficult temperament before they are integrated into the existing dog population. Why not visit the facility and judge for yourself? I can only judge by the excellent condition and temperament of the dog I adopted and by the attention given before, during, and after the adoption by the manager of this facility. read more

Camp Merry Sunshine is a great place to get your life long friends! The establishment is so very well maintained, very clean and cared for, these dogs are definitely taken well care of and looked after. Kathy really loves and cares for each dog that comes to her and she does everything in her power to ensure these dogs will live quality lives. I WAS VERY IMPRESSED BY CAMP MERRY SUNSHINE AND WILL DEFINITELY BE COMING BACK. And for the bad reviews, some experiences are different than others, although I feel as if the writers may have exaggerated. FOR SURE RECOMMEND TO ANYONE LOOKING FOR A FURRY FRIEND!! read more

I had a good experience at this rescue, which is located just outside of Bonifay, Fl. The outdoor runs were under cover and on new slab concrete. They were clean and not overcrowded, as one reviewer stated in 2015. I did not come away with the dog I went to meet, but found my exact perfect choice instead. I really wished for a teacup Yorkie, and did not want a puppy or an aging dog. Realistically I had zero hope of finding one, so I went to meet a Papilion they had pictured. She turned out to be too large for my requirements. The dog I adopted that day instead... that they did not have publicly listed.... is a year old 3# neutered Yorkie. She gave me records of his date of neuter, rabies, bordatella, etc. and when HW prevention was last given. In order to get my supply, I took him to my vet and had my own general check up and he is fine. They gave me his "chip" number, which I was able to register with no problem. He is healthy, has a very mild tendency for congenital patellar subluxation, common in Yorkshire terriers, which is likely why he came available through a rescue instead of being sold by a breeder. I could tell the dogs there were well cared for, and the proprietor is a very dedicated lady with a calling to help dogs of all varieties get a second chance at a good home. read more

I had a very unfortunate encounter with the owner of this business trying to get more information on one of her dogs. I had a lot of questions through email and and on the phone and called her to ask some more as this was our first time in looking at a rescue dog. My daughter is a vet and has a rescue dog and has experience in the different situations that can occur with health issues and behavioral issues with rescues, so we wanted to do our homework well to make sure that we would be a good fit for the dog with our current lifestyle. After asking if I could have a copy of the health certificate she told me she couldn't get me a copy and to just drive up there. I told her we were 7 hours away and that was a long drive to make if the dog wasn't a good fit. My daughter wanted to look at the health certificate which is always a good idea with any dog you are buying. The owner was very difficult and rude the whole time. She told me she didn't have time to send a copy of the health certificate for my daughter to look at so I suggested I call the vet and talk with him. She then told me and I quote, "I don't think you are the right person for this dog!" I asked why she thought that and she replied, "Because you are a pain in the butt!" I appreciate all the long, hard hours she sacrifices to help rescue animals but you don't need to be rude and insult a prospective buyer! It is a shame because the dog looked sweet and we were really interested in her and were willing to drive 7 hours both ways to get her. I hope this lady treats her dogs better than she treats people trying to buy her dogs! read more

we all know and love Kathy. two of my loved beyond all reason Pekinese came from her. and I wish I had won the lottery, I would get a lot more!.poppy my now 7-8 yr old Pekinese, smart as a whip, came via delta air lines, as delta is the only airline who will ship flat nosed dogs, and never in the summer..................Kathy, watched and notified, called, and did every other blessed thing for my little Pekinese that you can imagine.and tracked poppys every move both in the air, and on the ground. With all of the non-human rotten dirt bags who hurt animals it is a blessing to have someone like Kathy, who even pulled into a gas station in Missouri and found a tiny little dachsound wrapped around a tree. of course she rescued him, some alien had left him there to die. I can tell you many stories, BUT Kathy is salt of the earth, and would never hurt a soul. she only rescues animals that some aliens had dumped ! and I don't lie either.I am a degreed person and work at a university in California. read more

We are a small dog rescue located west of Moline Kansas. Our dogs come from breeders, dog auctions, homeless situations, dog pounds and animal shelters. They are given their vaccinations on intake, wormed and have a flea preventative applied. All dogs are on heart worm preventative. They are groomed as needed. We temperament test the dogs to help get a better understanding on the perfect home for each one. This includes exposing the dog to cats, small children and other animals. When we place a dog out of state they are given a complete physical by a licensed veterinarian and a health certificate goes with that dog. In state dogs also receive a check up and an instate health certificate. We have been rehoming dogs for over 50 years. We are always available for any dog owner should they need training or behavior issues.
History
Established in 1972.
We started out volunteering at a local animals shelter. They had a very high kill rate. We moved on to help specific breed clubs establish a rescue for their breed. We opened our own facility in California in 1980. We moved to Missouri in 2004 and Florida in 2015, each time establishing a rescue center and working with others to get dogs into loving homes. We have placed over 30,000 dogs since our start way back then.

I had an exceptional experience with Kathy Williams at Camp Merry Sunshine Dog Rescue. From the moment I expressed interest in a dog at her facility, Kathy went above and beyond to ensure that the adoption would be a perfect match for both me and the dog. Despite the geographical distance, as I reside in a different state and could only rely on a picture from the internet, Kathy took it upon herself to thoroughly prepare the dog for the transition. She gave the dog a bath, trimmed its coat, and even sent me additional pictures to provide a better understanding of its appearance. Kathy's dedication to making the adoption process as smooth as possible was truly remarkable. Understanding that arranging transportation through a company would be challenging for me, she generously offered to meet me halfway without any extra charge. Additionally, Kathy took the initiative to have the dog microchipped, demonstrating her genuine concern for the well-being and safety of the animal. Throughout the entire adoption process, Kathy consistently prioritized my comfort and satisfaction. She patiently addressed all my inquiries and concerns, ensuring that I was well-informed and at ease every step of the way. I cannot express enough gratitude to Kathy for her professionalism, compassion, and attentiveness. Since bringing my new companion, June, into my home, she has seamlessly settled in and become an inseparable part of my life. June's favorite place is right by my side, whether it's snuggled between my legs in the recliner or nestled beside me in bed at night. The joy and enrichment that June has brought into my life is immeasurable, and I attribute this happiness to Kathy's unwavering commitment to her work. Kathy, I am sincerely grateful for the positive impact you have made in both June's life and mine. Your dedication to animal welfare and the genuine care you extend to each and every adoption is truly commendable. May you continue to be blessed for the incredible work you do. read more

Since YELP does not allow me to respond to the reviews, I would like to remind everyone that we are NOT breeders, we are a rescue. When you adopt or buy a dog, you are expected to do certain things to keep a dog healthy. Any dog adopted from us has had a complete physical as well as a fecal flotation done to find and correct internal parasites. The new owner is expected to worm their dog monthly, use flea treatment and feed that dog the same food we use. In the case of Paulette, what she fails to state is she got the dog in August and did not take care of her dog. She represented herself as a "poor senior living on disability" so I let her have her dog at below our cost. She paid $150. It costs us $125 for the neuter, $45 for the micro chip, and another $50 for updating the dog's shots and fecal flotation. Most websites limit us to 25 dogs or less. We usually have over 80 on site at any time. Additionally, we take our dogs back if they do not work out. Currently we have 90 dogs that would probably be dead if we had not taken them in. That is a lot of dog food, vet bills and work to keep clean, fed, and loved. We have successfully placed over 38 dogs as service dogs at a fraction of the cost many "trainers" charge ( starts at $25,000!) We are committed to help where ever we can. That goes both ways. Older folks who go to a nursing home and cannot take their beloved pets have a choice besides killing their best friend. People looking for a purebred dog can get one that is older who needs them too. read more

On August 1st I got the most wonderful dog in the world from Kathy. Yes, she brought Bunny to me at night, I live in Panama City and she drove over to bring this wonderful dog to me at 8PM. She was taken from Texas on a Friday and she was mine on Monday. How much could someone care about these little mistreated dog than Kathy. She is healthy, so very lovable and show signs of a past that was not so happy. I am 84 and Bunny is about 3 to 4 years. There is a very sweet dog on Kathy's picture that looks very much like my Bunny. A forlorn looking baby standing on a box. She has been in the pictures for a long time - please someone needs to give he/she a home. I neglected to get its name before I started this message, it is listed as a Yorkie - and having owned Yorkie's since 1968, I know how wonderful they are. My Mitzie, age 14, died on the 4th of July and my wonderful Bunny came to me August 1st. Could I ask for more. Thank you Kathy and ignore anyone that faults you for helping these wonderful little guys. At the time, I would have been very happy with an 8 year old dog - no puppies at my age. My Bunny wishes all your future rescues to find someone as caring as Kathy. Joyce B read more

My family and I live in the Bonifay, FL Area and have been to 4 different "shelters" in the area looking for the right pet for our family. I have met with Ms. Kathy, in person, and she really loves her dogs just as her own. The kennels are clean and easy to walk about as your search for your new best friend. All of the dogs are excited and happy to see you. They were not crowded or depressed, like I have seen at some of the "other" places. Ms. Kathy understands just like people, different dogs are for different people, and I respect that. Too many times, you run into a "shelter" that is just trying to push out product and not a family friend. I also love the fact that not only are you coming home with your new bff, she takes care of all the shots, spay/neuter, and microchipping for you. My vet wanted $125 just to spay!! My girls had a hard time making up their mind on who to bring home and we were a little pressed for time, but Camp Merry Sunshine will be our first stop next time. read more

I'm just going to let y'all know. beware. she ran a horrible so called rescue in Bonifay FL. dogs were in cages stacked on top of each other. most of her dogs seemed sick. me and my mom went to look at a Frenchie puppy that was soo sick and lathargic and she insisted he was fine and wanted $500. me and my mom were so worried about that poor baby we offered to take it to a vet that we would pay for to see what was wrong with it. She would not let us. i can see why she left fl. I just by chance overheard customers at my work talking about a rescue they got a puppy from that was extremely sick. and guess who??? camp merry sunshine. She is a fantastic person to work with. We have gotten two breeds from her that were not her usual SMALL dog offerings, one 2 yr old Maremma and he is a great dog. The other is a 2 yr old Border Collie with the usual "zoomie" personality. We have goats and a GWP and Mini Aussie, too. The dogs are healthy, friendly, and, if we ever want another of any kind, she would hunt the world for us. She's a Christian lady who walks the walk and talks the talk. I don't believe she ever. EVER, sold a diseased or worms dog dog I have gone with her to her vet and saw all she has them do on EACH and EVERY dog, and, once in a while, a cat or two. read more

If I could give a minus I would. This place is awful. All dogs outside in stacked cages. They have a roof, but that is all. Please don't recommend them to anyone. I don't know why they can be in business. Feel horrible for animals. Plus a few dogs were inside the house that was deplorable. Feces everywhere. SmEllen like an outhouse. Rescue the dogs from there and shut it down. read more
