The entire lake shore was littered in rundown boats, kayaks, jet skis, buoys and other debris. And I do mean covered, I felt like I was looking at a post apocalyptic resort scene. Of the 12 guests camping while we were there, it was incredibly obvious that 9 were living long term in the campsites, resulting in a trashy rundown atmosphere, as well as the uncomfortable feeling you were encroaching on someone's home, rather than a mutual campsite. The owner was basically MIA and the person who I suspect is managing the property drove around the lot constantly but didn't offer much help or direction. It was obvious that they had recently renovated the public bathrooms, which included showers but when we paid four dollars for a hot shower (as advertised), there was only ice cold water. The general impression and feeling was unsafe, uncomfortable, and incredibly disorganized. Our children kept saying they felt like they were on an episode of Trailer Park Boys, which pretty much sums up the experience.

The person who took our reservation over the phone was very friendly. The photos online DO NOT reflect the actual condition of the property. We got there during office hours but never saw one camp employee. We were booked two nights but left after first night by 7:30am. Very disappointing. $100 a night for the worse campground this 4 week trip,

One paved section runs northward about 4 miles from Cheney to Fish Lake, and is popular with bicyclists and walkers. From down town Cheney go about 1 mile south on the Cheney-Spangle Road. State Park parking is on the left. You do need a WA State Park Discovery Pass to park at any WA State Park. It's $30 per year for 2 vehicles, or you can pay for 1 day parking at the park. The trail also goes the southward from the same parking lot, but its gravel and not as popular. Some people find the old railroad bed trails a little boring because they are wide, and flat or have only gentle grades. Others prefer the easier trail. The pictures are from the gravel part of the Columbia Plateau Trail State Park south of Cheney.

I'm not sure how much windshield wiper fluid I used but at one point I gave up. When a ladybug smacks your windshield, they leave a red mark that can only be removed with a little elbow grease and a gas station sponge. The Columbia Plateau Trail is a 130 mile rails to trail bike route starting at Fish Lake trailhead. The first few miles are through a ravine cut through the rock and dirt for the old railroad. It was an interesting visual experience to bike through it to see the amount of effort required to lay railroad tracks. Now that it is replaced by a bike trail, nature is slowly taking back its land. Bushes are growing at the trails edge and down the ravine, small streams flow down each side of the trail next to the rocks, small rodents and Gambel's Quail scurry along with the sound of a nearby biker and, of course, at this time of year, lady bugs are out in force. Lady bugs must like the trail because they are protected from the wind. There were clouds of them. As I biked along, they would attach to my shirt in packs then start crawling. I got pretty good at swiping a fluttering my shirt to clean them off. I had to consciously keep my mouth closed so I wouldn't inhale one. I kept my visor low so they would smack off my helmet instead of my face. I only biked on the trail for a few miles because the paved section of the trail only runs for a few miles before turning to rough gravel. The rough gravel would be fine for a gravel bike or my mountain bike but not my road bike with skinny tires. I'm not sure if it transitions back to smooth pavement at any point in the next 127 miles, but I imagine it does closer to city centers. For those who wish to continue biking on pavement, there is a trailhead at the three mile marker, allowing for a quick escape to bike the quiet, paved country roads.

Located just north of the city of Coeur D'Alene sits Hayden Lake, perfectly nestled in a quaint neighborhood with hillside homes and shady trees. Although a little small, the beach features plenty of areas to camp out near the shore or up the beach in the shade, and a dock to the right allowing for small watercrafts to launch into the water. We spotted the perfect spot for our party of 7 and set up camp. Docks surround the swimming area which allows for plenty of water depths to swim/float/dive/ect in! It was a beautiful day and the cold water felt amazing. The kids made sandcastles while the adults swam, floated and soaked up the sun. The snack shack features a wide variety of food and cold drinks ranging from sodas, and popsicles to pizzas, corndogs and more. Sure, prices are a little steep for the generic food, when I came back to the umbrella boasting cold popsicles, the kiddos loved it! The only major downside is parking. There isn't a designated lot, but spots line the road for at least a mile, so if you can't snag a spot up close (like we did!) be prepared to walk and schlep all your jazz to the beach. However, when back visiting family, I'd easily return to this quaint slice of paradise!

It enclosed an area for kids to swim around without having to worry about boats. The sandy beach area backs up to a grass. So play or lay in the sand or relax on the grass. Partly shady gives you options to take cover if it's too hot outside. Has a snack bar that is only seasonal. A volleyball area with a few picnic tables. A boat launch area and Bathrooms too. There's also a section with kids life jackets to use at not cost. The place is absolutely gorgeous. It's almost unreal The downside - it can get packed pretty quickly. So not a lot of elbow room on the those summer days when everyone wants to get out. There's not many options for parking. So if you're not lucky enough to snag a spot up close. You could end up parking 1/4 mile away. Still an amazing place to relax and have fun ! A must do !
