I love this bathroom. First and foremost, they had a little basket with ladies products in it and potpourri spray! A must! And then in the basket they also had a little plant with a cute panda figurine in it so it looks like it's climbing the little plant. The ambiance of the bathroom is homey and had so many different artworks on the walls that you can look at while you're using the bathroom. I got a tattoo from Eric Jenks of Fish Ladder Tattoo in October of 2007. There are only two artists in the shop: Eric Jenks and Chris Boilore. Both of these guys used to work at Splash of Color in East Lansing and have robust portfolios. I came to Eric with only a vague idea of what I wanted and Eric drew up a GREAT design for me; it was absolutely perfect! These guys are definitely artists. I would say my tattoo was moderately priced (I believe I paid $140 + tip for about 3 hrs of work). I know someone with a lot of work by Chris and her tats are all very beautiful as well. Got a new tattoo yesterday here after a local friend recommended them. Had a shitty experience at Splash of Color right before coming here. Ended up having my tat done by Solomon. I'm mostly happy with it, seemed a little pricey ($120) for 25 mins and the simplicity of the design which I brought in, IMO. Having said that I like how the birds turned out, Solomon was super cool to me (unlike Splash) and everyone was professional and courteous. I'd go back. read more

Consider this one star rating a negative five. I received a tattoo on my sternum from Cam Pohl in November 2016. While I shouldn't have agreed to the design off the bat and scrutinized it more (I do take fault in that) the execution of the tattoo was not even worth a dollar. Where to start, the tattoo I received started to blow out (ink bleeding), the lines were extremely crooked (nothing close to what the original sketch was like, and the jewel centerpiece turned out to a hideous blob. Not to mention he added gradient dots that were not on the original design without my consent. Also getting a sternum tattoo with only one break, no water offered, and no concern to my well being was not a great experience. As soon as I noticed the signs of a very bad tattoo, I immediately tried to get in contact with Pohl but he ignored my attempts. At this point I reached out to the owner of the shop, Eric Jenks. He then lit some fire under Pohl's butt to get back to me but at this point I've become so frustrated at the unprofessionalism shown by Pohl, that I did not want him touching me again and making the disaster worse. I asked for my money back minus my tip to compensate for Pohl's time, he said no. Pohl said "all i can do is attempt to fix what you see is wrong. if youre not allowing me to do that then what you do is up to you. " So now I am left with a HIDEOUS thick lined and patchy tattoo that was meant to be delicate and feminine. Absolutely consider going elsewhere for your tattoo, unless you want subpar, unprofessional work done. I am saving now to get this terrible experience lasered off of my body or covered up by a competent artist - Very upsetting! read more

Hey man, get this, Im not from around Lansing at all. Im just here on leave from the military and I decided the new year was the right time to get one of the many tattoos Ive had my eye on for a while. With that being said, I spontaneously went on yelp this morning and just typed in "Tattoos" (but in all caps because I was excited). Fish Ladder Tattoo was the first outta the bunch; I read ONE review, hopped in the car and drove over. I said "Eh, Ill just check it out. See what their prices are that sorta thing" Well, when I got there it just blew me outta the water. Everyone was friendly, they were FUNNY, not just regular 'joe-schmoe' funny but they had personalities...personable personalities. It was awesome. They offered me a groovy deal on some Sailor Jerry work and I love it. Its by far the best tattoo Ive got. I dont live here but I have a feeling when I come back to visit I will be back to this shop or whatever shop Madson heads to. Hes hilarious and he works fast and his work is just incredible! He seems to specialize in traditional tattoos which is great if thats what youre into. If not he can draw up whatever! I had seen people all around the Lansing area with amazing tattoo work, and every time I asked them where they got theirs done they would say FIsh Ladder. I finally got the courage to go in there and talk to Eric Jenks about my first tattoo. He was super nice and calm. They are bust guys so I had to wait about a month after I made my appointment to get it done, but it was worth it. I could not have picked a better artist or shop to do my first tattoo. I read about the studio on Google and yelp and decided to walk in and check it out. The shop was very clean and well maintained and the artists were very nice and helpful. James was awesome. He took my design concept and very quickly came up with a design I loved. It was unique and beautiful. Then he did my tattoo right then without an appointment. I went to Fish Ladder to get my first tattoo. It was a little more expensive than I expected (their minimum is $80), but I thought it was definitely worth it. It was very clean, and they had the artists' portfolios sitting out so I could easily look them over. Scott, who did my tattoo, was very friendly and professional. I had brought a reference of the font I wanted for my tattoo, and he immediately suggested that I make the lines all the same weight so that the gaps wouldn't blend together. He checked in with me several times while doing my tattoo, and gave me detailed instructions for the aftercare. If I get another tattoo, I will definitely be going back there. read more

A few weekends ago my younger sister and I got our first ever tattoos at Fish Ladder. Naturally, we were a bit hesitant about the process. Our nerves went away very quickly as soon as we met our tattoo artist, Levi. He was wonderful! Very easy to talk to and made us feel very comfortable. The apprentice (didn't get his name) was also super approachable and personable. We got wrist tattoos and I believe the price came out to $65. SO much cheaper than Splash. We wouldn't consider going anywhere else for future work and absolutely plan on scheduling with Levi again next time! read more
