My wife and I stopped here for lunch after visiting Congaree National Park. Had the Oxtail dinner and fried chicken dinner. Excellent!

We had heard that the restaurant had changed ownership and now has a different menu. You used to…read moreorder at the bar and take a seat. Now it's more of a true restaurant. Not too many tables in the main room (I think maybe 6 or so) and they have the Company store side apparently for banquets. Still have the old screen porch that you could eat at but today nobody was out there. They are open for lunch and dinner. Friday and Saturday nights til 9:00 PM. The menu surprised me. They have a good assortment of starters - fried pickles, fried okra, hush puppies, and more. I ordered the BBQ pork on Texas Toast, Fries and Cole Slaw with unsweetened ice tea. Everything was excellent. Big Al's BBQ sauce was very good. Almost like a combination of North Carolina and Tomato based...not sure, but very good. My wife and I both liked the sauce. It's not thick and was served in a sqeeze bottle. The Cole slaw was great. Not your typical Cole slaw that is sweet. My wife took a bite of my sandwich and cole slaw and loved both of them. She ordered a quarter chicken dinner. It came with three sides and she chose salad with Vinegariette dressing, green beans, and the hash and rice (she said mainly so I could try it). The chicken was great. Quarter chicken with wing and very moist. The green beans were perfect. I like the southern style green beans - my wife likes the al dente. These were my style. The BBQ Hash and rice was also very good. Her dinner also was served with a regular bread roll. The waitress was very prompt in seating us and taking the order. We were served in probably 5-7 minutes after ordering. Very fast. We'll definitely go back. They currently don't have beer or wine but have put in for their license. RIght now they do not have any fish or shrimp on the menu but are looking to add shrimp and a low country boil in the near future. It's a nice ride out to Rembert and a great little trip from NE Cola for a relaxing lunch or dinner. Try it...you'll like it.

If your looking for a happy, relaxing atmosphere and something different, then this is the place to…read morebe. I have eaten breakfast, lunch and dinner at the boykin mill store and I have yet to be disappointed. It's a country store with yellow grits lining the shelves (for sale) that are from the mill across the street. The grits are served with many meals, but my favorite is the shrimp and grits. There are a variety of different items to choose from. Along with the food and atmosphere, comes the staff. They make you feel special and very welcomed and will make you feel like fanily. I love this place and would recommend it to all ages!! I'm going tonight for dinner, to relax and have a beer and listen to some good ol boys play some good ol music! Which by the way, play just loud enough.
