I had the herring sample plate, don't remember the exact name, but it was something like Köln Sushi. In any case, it was herring served in a bout 6 different ways and I loved every one of them. This dish is for true lovers of those delightful little fish. They were smoked, marinated, raw, with beets in a salad, grilled, and so on. Everything was so fresh and tasty. I finished it all, something I seldom do. This was the best meal I had in Cologne, and I'd go back for more. That's saying a lot too, as I almost always prefer trying somewhere new. The riverside setting is great for people watching, and for us it was a great place to duck out of the rain for a Kölsch before we decided to stay and dine.

However after I paid my bill, an older owner-looking guy stopped me from heading out and asked me to take my bottle with me. I bought a bottle of still water earlier, and finished it during dinner so I left the empty bottlethere. I was embarrassed at first thinking I had to take care of the plates and trash, until the old guy speaking to me with a condescending tone: German people come to a restaurant, order food and drink, they don't drink from their own. You take it with you unless it isn't yours. I simply don't understand the logic that if I have my water already, why do I have to order the unnecessaries from you? Plus, if you can't handle the culture diversity probably you shouldn't do catering on the most international corner in Köln. I welcome any German friend to enlighten me on this. Food wise it was average, I ordered tapas which had no seafood, so probably that was not their specialty.

Und auch andere Gäste gerade gingen und es keine Schlange gab. Einfach so, weil das eben die Regel ist. Ist mir so noch nie passiert. It's a fairly spacious restaurant by the Rhine and during the summer months with nice outdoor seating as well. The menu is varied with plenty of options and there are daily specials. We arrived shortly before closing and the only thing I did not like is that, they took the booking and then tried to rush us through. The waiter suggested a starter of baby calamari and scampi in a griddle and it was amazing. My pasta with scampi was not so nice. Coffee great and a nice wIne list of Italian and German wines. All in all a good experience I would happily repeat.
