I call first state at 7:30 am and Gavin answered ( which I was expecting to leave a message) he scheduled me a time for the next day. Soon his arrival Gavin called me and told me that some springs had snapped and he would take care of it while he was there , Gavin did the work in a timely manner and he even put a new roller or pulley on free of charge which in today's world that's unheard of. I called and left a message that one of the cables on my garage door had failed. I knew that same day service might be tough so I mentioned to them that if they could help me get my door up so I can get my car out, it would be a great help. Phil called me back about 15 minutes later and explained that while he couldn't get my door fixed that day, he could at least help me get my door unstuck and put it up so I could get my car out. He came out promptly and got my door open and said he'd call later to schedule a time to fix the cable. Later that night Phil called and he scheduled an appointment to come out the next day. He called the next day and said he was running early and said he could come out early or he could maintain our original appointment. He arrived, went to work, and promptly fixed the problem. I especially liked how he explained what he was doing and why, taking the time to educate me. Now, the door operates even smoother than before! The icing on the cake was the price. It was very reasonable compared to some other estimates I had gotten. I offered Phil a tip, but he declined. Although I suspect this review might prove more valuable than any tip ;) read more

When your garage cable snaps and you use the garage door a lot, prompt service is critical. That is exactly what happened, even though I called after the weekend. He came out the same morning and offered prompt and friendly service. There may be cheaper places (although the chains have to fork over 15% to the mother ship and are usually are more costly. You also pay for that top placement on Google). The speed of the service and the high quality of work made for a good experience. As they say, you get what you pay for. read more

Frank and Freedoe were great. They were the only company who genuinely tried to look at the problem i had with my garage door and tried to fix it and not sell me on a nee door. They were very responsive and punctual, and were transparent with the work they were going to do. They are priced very fairly since I've had mutiple instances over the past few years where i used another company - who not only charged more but also didn't do a good job. The garage door would no longer open and close and after doing a bit a research, my husband and I decided it wasn't something we wouldn't be able to fix ourselves. I found First State Garage Door on Angie's List and liked that it was a smaller company with only a few employees. I feel like you always get more personal service and First State absolutely delivered! I called on a Monday and left a message about the problem and Phil got back to me about an hour later. We scheduled an appointment for the next day. Around 5pm on Monday, Phil gave me a call and said I was on his way home and would I like for him to stop in to take a quick look. I said that was fine and he came over and looked at the problem. Phil said that most of the time this was an issue with a bad motor. My problem turned out to be a temperamental motor that was acting up due to old age. After he fixed our problem, I asked if he thought I should get a new motor. Most people would immediately say yes to get more income, but Phil said he would use it until it no longer worked. On top of that, when we asked what we owed him, he said NO CHARGE! He said it was an easy problem for him to fix, it was his business, and that he loves what he does. Phil absolutely went above and beyond for us and will forever have our business and we would highly recommend him to anyone we know. read more
