My son was seen by his regular dentist who informed us that half his tooth was missing and was infected/abscessed, and they wouldn't be able to pull it for a few months. In order to avoid him having to take antibiotics until then, I frantically called around trying to find a dentist that could see him ASAP to get it pulled. After speaking to a few different places, I decided to take my son here since they were accommodating enough to see him the quickest. They informed me he would first need an exam by the dentist to see what work needed to be done, which was fine by me. While there he talked about a lot more extensive work that needed to be done including another tooth pulled, baby root canal, and a crown (all of which was never mentioned by his regular dentist). They said he could come in the next morning to get the infected tooth pulled for which I was so grateful to get it taken care of. Signed off on the treatment plan which again stated that the infected tooth was going to be pulled first and the rest of the dental work (extra tooth pulled, baby root canal) would be done at a later date. My husband had to work the day of my son's extraction and since I had a baby I couldn't go back there with my son. But he assured me he was fine to go back by himself. Tooth pulled and we headed home, only for my husband to mention later that day "I thought the infected tooth was on the other side?"....... Yes, yes it was..... The infected tooth was still in his mouth... After finally getting a hold of the receptionist I asked her for some clarification as to why they did not pull my sons infected tooth, the one they said they would, the one I specifically came there for in the first place, the one they had listed on the treatment plan. She spoke to the dentist and this is where the gaslighting began... she said it was not a mistake that he made a judgement call based upon his expertise, and that he decided to pull the other tooth (which just had a larger cavity mind you) because he wanted to get that root canal taken care of before it became infected. And that if it became infected he would've had to have had 3 teeth pulled.... So you're telling me that they're over here just pulling teeth willy nilly when they get infected instead of the first line of defense which would be a baby root canal, which spoiler alert is what you were going to be doing regardless? Imagine taking your child to the doctor for an infected cut on his leg, only for him to come into the waiting room with a bandage on his arm instead. The doctor tells you he noticed the infected cut on his leg but wanted to take care of the cut on his arm first because of the "potential" of it becoming infected, and to come back in a few weeks and he will take care of the infected cut on the leg. That is essentially what happened in this case, literally absurd right? So now my neurodivergent son had to take antibiotics which again isn't easy for him and I wanted to avoid. It required a doctors visit just to get the script changed to chewables because he can't take liquid form. All of this could've been avoided had this dentist just PULLED THE INFECTED TOOTH! read more

I love bringing my son here (he's 3). He's always greeted so enthusiastically by the staff and they go out of their way to make him comfortable, and when he's comfortable I can relax. As soon as you walk in you can tell it's an environment just for kids with bright colors and fun games to play in the waiting room. The exam rooms have TVs for the kids to watch and an extra chair for parents to sit and see everything but not be in the way. They explain everything to him before they do it so he knows what's coming and he always leaves with a smile and a neat toy. I love how clean this facility is and everyone is extremely friendly. I like that it's not overwhelmingly decked out in children colors and themes but still is obviously a Children's dentist. It has a nice modern feel to it that still caters directly to children with games, tvs with cartoons and some fun wall art. The actual dentist was extremely nice and joyful and my 3 year old enjoyed him. The assistant was very friendly as well making the overall experience positive for my child. The front desk staff is very nice as well, had an insurance issue and she never made me feel like a nuisance! Will continue using throughout both of my Children's life! read more

I came across First Smile Children on a random day searching urgently for a children's dentist for my daughter. From the moment I spoke to the front receptionist I knew this is a great place. Greeted very kindly over the phone and in person at our appointment. My daughter was having pain and I was able to get in next day! The whole process was nice and peaceful for my daughter and me. Dr. Bains is wonderful, we always have a please visit and he's to the point and always recommends his honest opinion and what's best for the patient. Katie is always so helpful and professional when I call in and has made us feel comforted knowing we can reach the office at any emergency. The dental assistants have all been gracious with my daughter even at times when she's stubborn and not willing to open her mouth. Our first visit to First Smiles Children's Dentistry was today! It was my 2 year old daughter's first time to the dentist and she had such a great experience and left happy and excitedly talking about her experience-she even talked to her Dad tonight about the teeth brushing and the mirror the doctor used to check her teeth. The staff were all so welcoming and really made the experience not scary and very pleasant for a young kiddo. My daughter was a little apprehensive at first, but no tears were she'd during our visit. :) that's a win! We were in and out within 30 min of our appointment time. First time there with my son, great experience. Super quick and the staff is bubbly & kind.

Exceeded my expectations so beyond! I had a terrible journey trying to find a pediatric dentist in the Modesto area that would #1 fill my squirmy 4 year old's cavities without putting her completely under anesthesia, and #2 use white composite fillings instead of silver/amalgam (everyone wanted to stick a giant silver cap over her bottom tooth). I was so worried about creating a negative experience for her and gave up on this area and was getting ready to drive to the Bay Area to start dentist consults when I thankfully gave First Smiles a shot! My daughter is super squirmy and uncooperative, but Dr. Ha and his amazing staff are extremely patient and used laughing gas only (which just made her a little silly and drowsy). They are careful to not let the children see anything that would scare them, and explain what they are doing the entire time in a very kid-friendly way. They filled 4 cavities in 2 visits (including one borderline root canal), and in about 20 minutes each time! It was extremely affordable which shocked me compared to other quotes I had gotten from various dentists. My daughter even left her doll there the first visit, and Stacey and Dr. Ha had it waiting for her in the chair on the 2nd visit. They even showed her pictures of them "cleaning" the dolls teeth to make my daughter feel better! They really care about the overall experience of the patients and the parents. My daughter loved her experience and is thankfully excited to still go to the dentist again for her 6 month cleaning. They also have a great waiting room with touch screen TVs with games for kids, and a great selection of toys to choose from after services are done that worked as great motivators for her.  Everyone was so sweet, honest, and made the entire process easy and enjoyable ,including Katie at the front desk who explained everything so well with billing, options, etc. So grateful for Dr. Ha and his staff! read more

I called first smiles to schedule an appointment for a second opinion on some dental work for my 4 year old. They were able to get me in right away, and from start to finish were amazing! The staff was so welcoming and personable. At the end of the visit my son got to pick a toy and get a balloon sword, as well as a welcome bag with a bunch of goodies. I am extremely excited to have Dr.Bains as our Dentist! He is one of the most knowledgeable and patient doctors I've ever met. My two sons , ages 4 and 6 , just had their visit with him and absolutely loved him. Dr. Bains and his friendly staff have this amazing way with making children feel at ease. As a plus, each room has a tv with cartoons playing which added to my sons happiness and comfort. My four year old needed a filling and to be honest I didn't think he'd sit still in the chair long enough to have his cavity taken care of. To my astonishment my son sat happy and comfortable during the whole process. I owe all of this to Dr.Bains and his staff! There's no way my four year old would have sat still for a filling if it wasn't for there amazing kid friendly techniques... they talked my son through the whole way, always asking him if he was still doing okay and to show a thumbs up if he was. My son gave thumbs up during the whole experience. As a parent, this was a priceless feeling to see Dr.Bains and staff all come together creating such a calm and peaceful experience for my son. Brought my two littles in for their first dental visit ever (5 y/o and a 3 y/o) and the experience by far exceeded my expectations!
