This is by far the best daycare out there coupled with a pristine blend of American and European Academic Approaches, this day care teaches the whole child. Our little one was enrolled in first path daycare during 8/2021-8/2022 timeframe. We had a great experience overall and believe that our daughter has learnt a lot ! The teachers (Marina, Fifi, Eena, Grace) are very caring, thoughtful and some of them have been with the learning center for several years. Our daughter loves First Path Daycare. She loves all of the teachers who work there. They are really attentive to all of her needs and it's amazing to see her growth. She was a really shy baby during early COVID times and it's been amazing to see how much she has grown socially and how many milestones she has accomplished due to First Path. Pay the extra $$ and send your children to a center that can be trusted. Yes, this is the cheapest place in Watertown, but that also translates to many cost savings: if you drop off your child before 8:30, there is 1 teacher taking care of however many kids are there. One time I counted 19 children, and stopped dropping off my son before 8:30 after that. The facility is old and smelly, very tiny rooms with no place for the kids to release their energy, and one of the classes for 3-4 year olds isn't even in a room! It is in a hallway connecting 2 other rooms which is unbelievable! In the infant class there was always a baby in a swing or bouncer, many times asleep which is not allowed. There is a very high turnaround of teachers throughout the year, and they all have very bad things to say about the center and their working conditions which is the biggest red flag for a daycare. The children are moved to new classes based on the director's ability to fill the center, and with no consideration of their readiness or the impact on them of transitioning to a new class every few months (not to mention they don't even ask the parents for approval, they just wait for the parents to realize it after the fact). In addition, there was no communication with parents- they are too cheap to pay for an admin, so they never sent any email updates. Whenever my son's teachers' left, or new ones started, we always found out after the fact. read more

Our daughter attended First Path daycare starting Nov 2021 to June 2022. She was in toddler 1 &2 classes during that timeframe. She was extremely happy throughout the time. She loved all her teachers and the teachers are extremely passionate about what they do. Our daughter learned a lot from them. The facilities may not look attractive but I feel parents and kids care more about how teachers are with kids. The park adjacent to the daycare is the best to have. Our daughter enjoyed her time outside in park. In summers, the drop off is in park so it is always an exciting moment to start the day for our kid. We really have only good things to say about this daycare and we had to discontinue as we are moving out of town. Overall, we are very satisfied with this daycare and would definitely recommend it to others! read more

We love First Path Daycare. The daycare is open from 7:30AM to 6PM, which is amazing for working professionals. My son has been in this daycare since he was 3 months old, and has been loved and cared for by all the teachers. He is now 12 months old. Here are a few things I love about the school: - Low turnaround on their staff, especially in the infant room - Director of the school is very attentive to our suggestions. She is also very patient in telling us new parents on how to prepare the meals, labeling the clothes, how to dress them, etc. All the things I didn't know before I started sending my child to daycare. I know that for most parents, it seems obvious what items belong to your child. However, one has to be empathetic of the fact that there are 7 infants plus 10+ items per child at all times. Plus new infants gets added as the older ones graduate to the next class. You get the picture. - No frills. They keep the fees as low as they can and focus on what is important - educating kids and training them to interact with each other. - No phones and posting of photos of your child. I always feel like if you see a lot of photos of your child on FB and online, what do you think the teacher is doing most of the day instead of interacting with the children? - Great location being in Watertown Square, I walk there everyday - The teachers are very diverse, and so are the children - I have made some new friends with the parents, they are all like-minded like me and from a very diverse background - Some of the teachers also work with us a babysitters during their off hours Side note - some of the reviews with low ratings noted that infants are left on swings and bouncers asleep unattended. I am actually not aware of them having a swing or bouncer in the room (I don't actually think it's allowed). They have high chairs for feeding, and one standing station. Even with those, I have definitely not found any babies asleep in them, and I do most drop-offs. read more

This is not an acceptable business for children or staff. My daughter was here from infant to kindergarten and my son from infant to 15 months. The changes that occurred in those years was substantial. The administrators became difficult to interact and communicate with. It became very apparent that the administrators were not professional and create a hostile work environment, which of course the kids notice and feel. I moved my son out of this establishment due to them being outside far too long a day, I believe, was too hot for baby/toddlers to be outside. As far as I know no laws are being broken but lack of common sense it apparent i.e. being outside when it is 89 degrees with very high humidity, the temperature set at 78 in the summer inside. When confronted administrators become extremely defensive and try to blame the teachers. It is worth to spend more money for happier environment for children. read more

When we toured First path Daycare something the director (Sasha) said to me really stuck, "The most important thing we teach the children is love". I have found that to be true. My son started at First Path when he was 3 months old. Now he is almost 2. There is a lot I like about the school including how involved Sasha is - I don't know how she does it but I feel like she has a handle on what's going on with each and every child every single day. The teachers are great. You can see they genuinely love their children. My son has learned so much. He does art projects everyday. He is always so proud to show me what he has created. First Path offers music class weekly which was VERY appealing to me when we initially signed up. In addition, they have access to a great playground and make sure to bring the children outside for fresh air whenever possible. We have been very pleased with them. read more

We have had both our kids go to First Path Daycare center since the age of 5 months, and we absolutely loved it there. They have really amazing teachers in every single classroom from the infant room to pre-K. All the teachers are affectionate, caring, and very much involved in kids physical, emotional and intellectual development, and are like an extended family to us. Their director Sasha pays a close attention to the well-being of all the kids and has also ensured that kids have a good mix of activities planned every day from music classes to sports. They also organize fun social events throughout the year, including recitals, winter concert, summer graduations, and Halloween parades. Their extended opening time (7.30 am-6pm) has helped us tremendously through all these years. Their location is very convenient for driving (with ample off-street parking) or taking public transportation. The park next to the facility is a great place to bond with other families. They have an open-door policy, and very flexible in general. After reopening during the Covid-19 pandemic, they have taken extreme precautions to ensure the safety of their kids and staff, while maintaining a fun and nurturing atmosphere for the kids. My wife previously posted a review of First Path Daycare stating that they left our infant daughter unattended in a swing on a public playground. First Path's reply to that review mischaracterizes my actions and contradicts what First Path told the Department of Early Education and Care (EEC) in response to our complaint. The EEC investigated our complaint of First Path and cited them for: (1) leaving our infant daughter unsupervised in a swing; (2) failing to check my identification when I picked up my daughter because the teacher had never met or seen me before; and (3) failing to report the complaint to DCF. The investigation results are public record and can be obtained from the EEC (Report No. 003741). My response to the misstated facts from First Path's reply is below. First, there was no teacher standing "right close to" the swing, much less "right next to" my infant daughter. Instead there were two parents--unaffiliated with First Path Daycare--who were tending to their own children on swings. Before taking my daughter out of the swing, I looked around for a teacher and saw no one. (I also asked one of the parents whether she was a First Path employee.) After taking my daughter out of the swing, I again looked around and, again, saw no one. At this point, I was more confused than upset, because the implication of my daughter being left unattended on a swing had not yet fully hit me. If a teacher had been close by, there would have been plenty of time for me to spot him/her or vice versa, and to ask me for identification. Second, First Path misleadingly implies that 5 adults were on the playground, claiming that in addition to the teacher (who, as I have already stated, was nowhere near my daughter), 4 other adults, including the director, were "at the premises" and that my daughter was receiving a "more than appropriate level of supervision." Actually, the director was somewhere in First Path's building, nowhere near the playground, and certainly not in sight of it. I know this because I picked up my daughter, walked off the playground with her, went into First Path's building, and asked the director whether anyone was on the playground watching my daughter. As for the other adults, I have no idea where they were. But they certainly were not close enough to a) prevent my daughter from falling out of the swing, if necessary, or b) approach me, a man who they had never met or seen, while I walked onto the playground, picked up an infant child, and left the playground with her. Regardless, the director went onto the playground to investigate the situation, and when I joined her, she was talking to 2 First Path employees. So most likely, there were only 2 employees in the vicinity of the playground, neither of whom were paying attention to my daughter. At the time, they told me and the director that they "looked away for a second" and then my daughter was gone, which was of no comfort. (First Path alleges that my daughter was the last child being picked up that day. Why that is relevant, they do not say. I hope they don't treat "last to be picked up" as an excuse for not actually watching a child. But to be clear: we were not late in picking up our daughter, nor were we close to being late. And even if my daughter was the last child to be picked up, that makes their failure to supervise her--the only child in their care--even more inexcusable.) Third, I did not raise an issue of First Path employees talking to parents. Actually, the director offered that as an excuse for why no one was watching my daughter in the swing and why no one approached me when I picked her up and left with her. Also, I never demanded that First Path employees not talk to parents. I stated very clearly to the director that the issue was that no one was watching my daughter while I, an unidentified male, walked onto the playground, picked her up, and left with her. I told her that the employees should be watching the children. In sum, First Path has misrepresented its actions and mine. I encourage anyone considering First Path to look at other sites and reviews. Then, decide for yourself whether our review is an outlier. One final note: First Path's response has eliminated the only good thing that I could have said about them--which is that (initially) they were appropriately apologetic and did not minimize the situation. On several occasions, they apologized to me and my wife, stating repeatedly that "nothing like this has happened before" and that they wouldn't have been in business for 19 years if something like this was a regular occurrence. So much for their apology. They have apparently decided to change their story and, in doing so, have misrepresented their and my actions. I wonder what their story would be if something terrible had in fact happened? Think carefully before you put your children in their "care." read more

First Path was my first choice after interviewing and visiting 7 schools. Unfortunately there wasn't a spot available by the time I made my decision and my child attended another school for a little over a year. So I have a basis for comparison. The teachers and director are kind while also setting reasonable limits. There is time for play, rest and learning. My child has responded very well to the routine at First Path as well as telling me how happy he is there. At three, he is capable of identifying most of the letters in the alphabet, identify his name and write the letters in his name, count to 30, understand how to take care of plants, recognize and identify fruits, vegetables, shapes, colors. There is a particular emphasis on making puzzles, creativity and caring for fellow students. I appreciate that they use recycled paper and other age appropriate recyclables for projects. I've donated art items and they are always cleverly put to good use no matter what they are - including toilet paper rolls etc. Since the school is close to the library and the fire department the children can easily walk to those places. My son is much more familiar with the library than I am. It gives him an opportunity to teach me something. I am very confident he will be well prepared for Kindergarten. As a single parent I depend on the teachers and staff at First Path to provide my child with safe and nurturing relationships with other adults and they do not disappoint. I am grateful for the diversity present in the teachers, staff and students. My child has an opportunity to get to know and play with kids from a wide variety of backgrounds. I feel it is critical for his development to be in a diverse community. There are also opportunities for him to play sports, take additional classes and he gets to spend lots of time outside - weather permitting. Every opportunity is taken to keep the emphasis on the children, to teach them the value of other kids, kindness and consistency. read more

My daughter has been going to First Path since she was 9 weeks old, and overall we've been happy with the center. As new parents, we had all of the usual concerns--the quality of care, the individualized attention she would get, her exposure to illnesses, safety, etc. We looked at five other centers--even some of the most expensive ones--and we found that we really like First Path. The caregivers are all very experienced, and most have their own children, so they completely understand parents' concerns and respond to any issues positively and are always willing to make changes that we request. I've spent a lot of time talking with Sasha, the director. She is very smart, very personable, and really wants the best for the kids at her center. Her first priority is making the children feel loved and cared for, and I can see that in how the children respond to her. When we first started bringing our daughter there, I had some misgivings--was the room too small? was it kept clean? were the toys safe and in good condition, or were they falling apart? was she getting her naps on time? Then I talked with some moms whose kids had gone to the very high-end centers and learned that turnover there is very high, the caregivers are often very young and less experienced, so although the centers are gleaming and beautiful, the quality of care isn't necessarily better. First Path is in an older building--not gross or anything, just older--but they recently made some important upgrades to the space, which will make it more comfortable and expand the indoor space that the kids have to play in, so that makes me happy. And during nice weather they always take the kids out to play on the playground, which they clearly love. I know they take the older kids around the neighborhood to visit the library or the fire station, so they do nice little outings like that. The downsides? I guess my only complaint would be the parking lot--it's too small and can be a real drag in the winter, especially when it's icy. Sometimes the caregivers don't accurately write down my daughter's nap or feeding times, but usually I can find out just by asking them when I pick her up--this is small stuff, nothing major. Overall, I'd recommend this center to anyone who's looking for quality childcare in Watertown. If anything happens that changes my opinion of them, I will post it here as an update, but we've been happy with them so far. read more

Our son Jack had a wonderful experience at First Path Day Care. He has been attending full time since he was 4 months old and is now almost 2 years old. Though it may not be as fancy as many of the larger corporate daycare chains, the program stands out for its incredible, experienced staff and teachers, as well as, for it's diversity of staff and students. The Director Sacha (aka Alexandra) is very knowledgable, always present and involved, and very responsive to questions and concerns. As first time parents, we truly appreciated her guidance and recommendations. The teachers are also wonderful, experienced, and stable (minimal staff turn-over). Aricelis, Irina, Fifi, Denise, Elaine, Grace, and Andrea have loved and cared for our son like their own. He can't leave in the afternoon without giving them all high fives or blowing kisses. We have also had a great experience with the other students and parents that we have gotten to know over the last 2 years. We love how many of the students and their parents hang out on the playground together after daycare. We are moving to a new town and new daycare and will definitely miss our friends at First Path. read more

First Path Day Care was my choice for my 2 year old toddler. First visit included showing the facility and answering all the questions. Day Care's director is extremely responsive and genuinely wants to address all the concerns or issues you might have. I felt like my child was in good hands. Please note that there is a waiting list. Facility has spacious clean rooms, separate for groups: infants, toddlers 1 and toddlers 2. Teachers are very friendly and treat every kid equally, "there is no other group kids, they are all ours". Some activities include coloring, books reading, singing. You will have to pack food for your LO. Daily written reports are provided to parents along with short story about your LO's day at pick up time. Playground with soft surface is conveniently located next to the building. Field trips for the older groups include visit of the Watertown Free Public Library and Fire Station - both in walking distance. Potty trained kids will be frequently asked and taken to the toilet, but diaper will be put on if accidents occur. Discipline is in place with equal rules for every one, but my LO was offered some flexibility during adjustment time. Music and dancing classes are held weekly. Kids' art projects are being hung on the walls and constantly changed. read more

My daughter started at First Path at 6 months and is now 1.5 years old. We have loved the daycare center from the beginning, and continue to have the same high opinion. I was initially very nervous about leaving my child with "strangers" (I am a first time mom) but the teachers and director are so warm, caring, and attentive, that I have no concerns. In fact, I think my daughter is getting a lot more socialization, stimulation, and learning than I could provide her with at home. The cost is very reasonable, the staff turnover is very low, and they go outdoors as much as possible. They do art projects regularly and have music class with a teacher they bring in specially on Friday afternoons. When my daughter had eczema, the director and teachers were so helpful in suggesting creams, oatmeal baths, and even wiping her face down daily with a cold wet cloth to reduce itching. I like that none of the teachers are allowed to use their phones, and the director is very hands on and know what is going on with every child. Summary: If you are considering First Path Daycare for your child, stop wondering/thinking/researching/comparing and just sign your child up. It is one of the best cares your child can receive during the first five years of their life. When we moved to Boston from Chicago our daughter was 18 months and had never been away from her mom. My wife evaluated a few local day cares around Brighton, Belmont and Watertown and finally met with Sasha and team at the First Path Daycare. We found everyone very cordial and caring, so we decided to sign up at First Path. First few weeks were tough for us and our daughter. She always cried and complained when we dropped her off. We tried to check on her from time to time by stopping by in the middle of the day. We found the caretakers to be very pleasant and were amazed by the level of compassion they exhibited with our daughter to make her feel comfortable. Sasha understands child psychology really well and has this warm, caring, but disciplined demeanor, that makes kids feel at home, but not get out of control. As a first time parents, we really found Sasha to be a great learning resource on how to keep our child disciplined in a gentle and loving manner. Every caretaker that our daughter had, through the 4 different levels at the daycare, became her instant favorite. They all engaged with her in a playful and caring manner, and at the same time maintained a disciplined and learning environment for her. Some key highlights, - First Path is very safe and keeps the general arrangement for kids simple and easy. They stick with traditional toys and books for reading time - Their schedule for breakfast, lunch, afternoon naps and snacks is great for kids' overall health and development - They are very careful and particular if any of the kids in a group have food allergies - They have a great playground right outside the building. If it's not raining, snowing or too cold, you will find your child, when you arrive to pick them up, happy with their friends and not wanting to go home. - They are very good communicating with parents and will send reminder notes/letters for specific dates and activities - Most importantly, everyone at the daycare is very polite and loving with all the kids We moved away from Watertown last year and while we could have changed the daycare to avoid the extra 15-20 minutes drive, we decided it was best for our daughter to stay with First Path. She just started kindergarten this week and already misses her teachers at First Path. We are expecting baby #2 in a few weeks, and have decided to stick with First Path because we fully trust everyone there to provide top-notch care for our newborn. read more

My daughter has been at First Path for a year and a half and going strong. We are very happy with her placement and encourage others to look into this facility in the Watertown area. The administrator and Director are very pleasant and knowledgeable. I can honestly say that my child's safety and well being is their main priority. My husband and I decided to send our son to a daycare because he was not as aware as babies of his age. My son started at this day care when he was 15 months and we started to notice his change right away. My son was more alert and everyday surprise us with something at home. My daughter has been going to the "first path daycare" since the beginning of this year. The hardware is not on the top grid. What I cared most is whether my kids are happy and treated with love and care. At first I was skeptical, but got convinced with the Toddler 2 room teachers. They will be changing the kids diaper as soon as they noticed a dirty diaper. The two teachers think for the best of the kids. They won't hesitate to tell me if I am doing something wrong to my kids. My daughter was happy every morning, and asked me to leave as soon as she sees her teachers. I probably know "Albert T." son. He was in the daycare during the same time as my daughter. My daughter almost complained to me the boy pushed him everyday. One late afternoon, when I was going for an early pickup. I remember seeing him tearing a book, page by page. Teachers weren't able to stop him doing that. I think it was for the sake of the safety of other kids, he was let go. I had my 2 year old has been in First Path for almost a year and overall I'm very Happy! This is my 2nd child so I am no longer a helicopter mom. I value big hearts and big smiles much more than any other thing. We had loving teachers. They listen to you as a parent and give advice on their daily routine. I had expectations for my son to be a happy kid at day care and first path met my expectations. It has everything a kid his age needs. Enough toys and structure + academic activities. My son is surprising me with letter recognition and he colors like a 3yeAr old now (and he's 2)! Aside from the regular activities, they provide sports , chorals and piano lessons once a week as extras. I made it to the year end concert before we have to relocAte again... The piano teacher is GOOD ! The thing I value the most at First Path daycare is the exposure to an international environment and culture ! Most teachers speak more than one language and they don't hesitate to use their second language with your child if you ask them to. In my case the teacher uses French with my son (and I am happy to have my son learn my own language). I also know many kids their who are learning Russian and Spanish from the staff. Our son is a toddler, he's been here for about a year and a half and we're very happy with First Path and so is he! He used to go to Little Sprouts, which cost SO MUCH MORE and yet the staff there made very little money so they were always leaving for other jobs, and that meant as soon as our boy got to know one of his teachers they would leave. At First Path we're paying less but our son's teachers are getting paid more, and that makes us feel better about sending him here. He's had the same teachers since he got there, and he loves them (maybe more than he loves his mommy and daddy!). I guess one way they're able to charge less but pay their staff more is the building isn't fancy. Little Sprouts almost seemed like a country club. This place isn't fancy at all, the walls are painted cinderblocks and there's exposed ductwork, but who cares? It's clean and it's safe, and that's what matters. read more

Thankfully the staff at First Path have been very pleasant and wonderful teachers to my family and the children. However, changes have occurred recently and a lot of new staff have joined. As a parent, I was never informed as to why so many great teachers left and new ones had come. This affected my child and I'm sure it did with others as well. The director seems to love the children and knows a lot about education which is great. At times she can be difficult to communicate with if there is a misunderstanding or a conflict of opinions. The building is rather old on the outside and inside. It could use some renovations but it does not seem like the owners want to do so. They care very much about money and making sure they have payments in a timely fashion. I chose the daycare because it is affordable and a convenient location from work and home. Our son was in this day care for more than three years and graduated last month. All his teachers are very experienced and caring. I am glad that my son made lots of progress there. Now he can read the "level-2" English books from the library and can do basic addition and subtraction. My older son went to a much more expensive day care center before. My son started going to First Path when he was four and spent there about a year until he went to K. We were so impressed by the quality of the care that we signed up our infant daughter (5 months old now) as soon as the spot in the infant room became available. The teachers are very caring - my son still loves to stop by and everyone greets him, though it has been almost a year since he graduated. For older kids, there are tons of structured activities as well as free play. They also do regular trips to the library nearby, fire station, etc. There is a small playground next door, where kids go twice a day - it was very important for me that my son was getting enough exercise, and boy he got it. He was in preK class there, and they made a lot of effort to prepare kids for the transition to K, which went very smoothly for my son. As for the infant room, the teachers helped a lot with transition for my daughter and I feel that she is getting a lot of attention on a daily basis. I stopped by during different times of the day and always saw that someone was holding her or playing with her (unless she was asleep). Though she had a bit of a hard time in the beginning, now she is very happy when she sees her teachers. I always get reports on what happened during the day, if she was crying or happy, what she liked to do, etc. I love it that even infants are taken for walks once or twice a day, unless the weather is nasty. The building itself is on the smaller side and a little old, but I had a bad experience with another daycare that had top notch space and disappointing teaching strategies, so I guess now the facility looks do not really matter a lot for me - as long as my kids are happy and thriving. Our son was cared for at First Path since a 3 m.o. baby and we took him out at 2 y.o. only because a home care run by our close friend finally had a spot open. We will likely send our second child if we have one to First Path again, because our son received there good care and the environment to grow and learn. Having a park next to their facility gave my son a lot of outdoor time which was great for his physical and social development, and their weekly music program taught him many of his first words and songs. Several teachers who cared for him connected with him and knew him well. He was well taken care of but not spoiled by excessive attention. As first-time parents, we received many suggestions and observations (e.g. bottle transition, eating habits, interaction with kids and adults, play and development, etc. etc.) about our child from both the teachers as well as the director Aleksandra herself, who is ever watchful and concerned about our son's healthy development both physically and behaviorally. read more

What a disappointment! Unprofessional teachers and director. This place reminds me of Chernobyl or Soviet abandoned base. We reluctantly placed our son here for about 5 months. We were in a tight spot with daycare and had to find a place for him quickly and ended up at First Path and then had to keep him there longer than wanted until something better came along. The director is a in your face push her agenda type. Our son who has had some challenges in his daycare path was apparently too much for them. At first meet with the director, we spoke of some of the challenges he'd had and the director seemed understanding and aware of the approach ahead for his development and experience at First Path. But ultimately we were pushed out of the center. His teachers clearly could not handle an active energetic happy boy. This is not a welcoming place. The teachers rarely acknowledged our coming and going and were not welcoming or warm to our son. read more

My daughter attended First Path from the time she was 9 months until she graduated pre-K. I can't say enough about the care that my daughter received in all that time. The director and teachers were always attentive and in tune with my daughter, with her well being and especially her education. These people dedicated their time to her and it was like a second home. The environment was always safe and secure. The school's educational curriculum taught my daughter basic math, reading, writing, science. There was also a lot of emphasis on developing social skills. The program offered group music and eurhythmics classes as well as one on one music lessons for preschoolers. In addition, there was a separate physical education class. The school is surrounded by green area that includes abutting playground, field, park and library that my daughter often visited with her class. She has started Kindergarten and is still asking when she can go back and visit all of her friends and all of her teachers. It really made an impact and shaped her into the little lady that she is.
