This is a really pleasant book store to shop in. They have very clean, good condition books and a…read morelot of local crafts that are interesting. The prices of the books range from really good deals to way more than I want to pay. I always manage to find some that are reasonable, though I wish they offered a larger selection of lower priced kids books (like under $5). Some of the employees are very helpful and some don't know where any of the books are, it just depends on who is there that day.

They always have new book releases, as well as classics, kid's books, biographies, history books and more. They also have some cool greeting cards and mini gifts. During COVID19, the book shop is only letting people in who have appointments, but will happily let you call in and order any books for pick up. You can pay over the phone, and they have a cute rack outside the shop with books labeled by the names of those who purchased them to pick up. I checked their Facebook page to see a few of the new books they'd gotten in recently, emailed them with my phone number, and they called back within the hour. I paid over the phone, stopped by 30 minutes later, and grabbed the book with my name from their outdoor rack. Super easy and cute! I found WAY more than I expected to buy when I first walked in, and the owner, Gene, was super friendly, helpful, and fun to joke around with. I only WISH this place was closer to where I live, because I would become a regular. I can't speak about the full offerings, because I only looked through the jazz section, but I know that I didn't expect much, but was blown away by the amazing selection and the care that Gene put into the store. All of the records were in really excellent condition. I'm listening through my gigantic stack right now, and I"m about 7 records in and have only had a couple skips, other than that, it's been great. This is a cute little bookstore that's tucked into a small shopping center area off of Main Street. Mostly, this bookstore specializes in regional and Mackinac-specific books and gifts. You will find some popular commercial books, but this isn't like one of those big chain bookstores. This is a niche bookstore, where you can find books about hyper-local topics. You'll also find things like maps, bumper stickers, magnets, calendars and other things like that -- mostly about Michigan and island life. They also have a huge selection of children's books, plus some toys and plushies. When I visited at the end of the tourist season, they were having a huge sale. Books were anywhere from 25% to 40% off! So, I guess if you're looking for a deal, the time to visit is at the end of the season, when they're trying to move product.

The last time I was in, I spoke to the employee who rang me up for a good 10 minutes. Told her the same thing I'm writing now that I don't neeeed a book and then get one anyway. I ended up getting 2 books however! Those 2 books came out to almost $50 and I think that was the most I spend that day on the island (besides renting a bike) haha. Maybe next year I'll have the willpower to stay away. But they do such a good job displaying books in the window that make you want to walk right in.
