I've been a fan of the Chiller series since I was a little kid and I never knew he had a book store until today so I got ready and made the 2h 46m drive up there, I was worried at first that I might not meet him but he and his wife were there and it felt like I was meeting an old friend, Johnathan thank you for being so humble and such an awesome dude! Keep being weird and inspiring kids!

    Autographed book

This was such a fun stop on our trip. The store is decorated spooky and the author was even in store! Him and his wife were incredibly welcoming and friendly. Definitely recommend stopping by and grabbing a few books (they are not expensive at all!!) He autographed the ones we purchased. :)

This is my favorite book shop in the area and the only book shop in Harbor Springs. Located on the…read moremain street in one of the cutest downtowns you'll ever see, this book shop is small, yet mighty. They always have new book releases, as well as classics, kid's books, biographies, history books and more. They also have some cool greeting cards and mini gifts. During COVID19, the book shop is only letting people in who have appointments, but will happily let you call in and order any books for pick up. You can pay over the phone, and they have a cute rack outside the shop with books labeled by the names of those who purchased them to pick up. I checked their Facebook page to see a few of the new books they'd gotten in recently, emailed them with my phone number, and they called back within the hour. I paid over the phone, stopped by 30 minutes later, and grabbed the book with my name from their outdoor rack. Super easy and cute! I'm so in love with the book I got and was so happy I found this place, as I'd run out of books for vacation!

I can only reiterate what others have said. This bookstore is fantastic!!…read more Despite being a small sized store, it's packed with any type of book you'd like. Local authors, newly released, sci fi, fiction, current events, children's books. You name it, they have it! They also had a nice selection of stationary and gift items. As others mentioned, the staff are friendly and extremely informative! I purchased two books and can't wait to start them! I highly recommend this bookstore!

Island Bookstore - The Island Bookstore

For those of you who still like to hold books in your hands and turn pages, Island Bookstore is…read morehere for you. This is a cute little bookstore that's tucked into a small shopping center area off of Main Street. Mostly, this bookstore specializes in regional and Mackinac-specific books and gifts. You will find some popular commercial books, but this isn't like one of those big chain bookstores. This is a niche bookstore, where you can find books about hyper-local topics. You'll also find things like maps, bumper stickers, magnets, calendars and other things like that -- mostly about Michigan and island life. They also have a huge selection of children's books, plus some toys and plushies. When I visited at the end of the tourist season, they were having a huge sale. Books were anywhere from 25% to 40% off! So, I guess if you're looking for a deal, the time to visit is at the end of the season, when they're trying to move product.

Nothing says Mackinac Island like ending up in one of the bookstores. The last couple years I've…read moretold myself I'm not going to buy a book and then I end up in the bookstore anyway looking at all the history books on Michigan and Mackinac Island. The last time I was in, I spoke to the employee who rang me up for a good 10 minutes. Told her the same thing I'm writing now that I don't neeeed a book and then get one anyway. I ended up getting 2 books however! Those 2 books came out to almost $50 and I think that was the most I spend that day on the island (besides renting a bike) haha. Maybe next year I'll have the willpower to stay away. But they do such a good job displaying books in the window that make you want to walk right in.

Blue Vase Books - Shelves upon shelves of books at Blue Vase Books!

Blue Vase Books is INCREDIBLE and I hate that I'm not located closer to it! This place is, as…read moredescribed by my friend when we walked in, a thrift shop for books and so many other kinds of media! The store is 95% used and 5% new - truly just one shelf at the front of the store with some popular, new books and that's about it! Books probably account for about 80-90% of the store, but Blue Vase also offers used records, board games, and some other music/movie items. But my friends and I came here for books and boy were we satisfied! The prices here!!! That's where we must start. All adult books in paperback were $2.99 and hardcovers were $3.99 (all unless otherwise marked) and you cannot beat those prices! All of their books that I pulled off the shelves were in great condition, so they are very intentional about stocking their shelves with good quality products, and I loved the way this store was organized! Things are grouped mostly by genre - cookbooks, sports, fiction, new fiction, young adult, classics, romance, horror, etc. Naturally, the fiction section is the largest and spans an entirely long wall of the store and that one was hard to look through because there were just SO many titles. Just know you'll be walking through this store with your head at an angle reading all the titles! I found the most success within the new fiction/young adult areas AND the awesome Michigan/local reads area at the front of the store! These shelves were so lovely and I definitely snagged a lot of books that I've either heard good things about or were just curious about them from what I read on the back of the book. All in all, I ended up getting 20 books for just a little over $100. WHAT A STEAL! I happened to snag a book that one of the employees at Blue Vase Books published as well, which I think is SO cool! There were also a lot of cute stickers and mini book magnets at the check out counter, so I got a little lost in those as well! The employees were so patient with us as we squealed over all the cute and delightful things and were just so kind and lovely! Pay attention to the hours here as their hours are limited. They're open 4 days a week and only from 10 am to 6 pm, but trust that it's completely worth a trip here! When I was chatting with the employee who was checking out my books, I asked her how often the books refresh and she said daily! They get about 3 giant truckloads of books each week that they sort through and put onto the shelves in real time! So you are sure to find something here and different every time you stop by! They also have an online store with great deals as well and a good selection of their inventory on their as well! I love it here and will be stopping by every time I'm in the Traverse City area no matter what!
